About
Castle Oaks Golf Club is situated on the historic Preston Farmlands. The Preston Castle, built in 1894 overlooks the rolling, oak-studded hills of the course. The course opened a century later but it blends in beautifully with the existing terrain, utilizing the Sutter and Mule Creeks and mature trees as natural hazards. When the golf course opened it was acclaimed as the best public course in northern California and it has remained one of the area's premier courses. The layout has an interesting mix of holes with some that are wide and forgiving and others that are narrow and play alongside environmental hazards. The meandering creeks and several lakes come into play throughout. There are many risk/reward opportunities and golfers will encounter several hazards and out-of-bounds off the tee, but overall the course is player-friendly enough to appeal to any skill level.

Castle Oaks comes from the old castle-looking build seen from the 16th fairway, that was the 1st juvenile detention facility in CA built in the the early 1900s. It was closed in the 1970s. Photo submitted by Cops1998 on 07/28/2018

Fun Course
I’ve always loved the layout. Fairways are in good condition.most of the greens are in good conditions, but there are several ‘dead’ areas on the greens.

only problem i paid for 4 golfers and we only had 3 play i think y’all should consider a refund because i’m a loyal customer and i lost $50 because my friend had a family emergency..i had to pay $200 i should get refund my $50

I like the lay out of the course

Divots on greens players need to fix their divots.
So friendly
Good course, was challenging, there was spots where the greens had been scalped and clippings were left on the greens but otherwise well kept. The gentlemen at the desk in the pro shop was so friendly he made me want to come back again. Also the 3 gentlemen that I was paired up with were very nice and patient with me as I am a beginner golfer. The course does have a couple holes that have hazards right off the tee box that don’t make a lot of sense because you are given an unclear shot but workable I guess. All and all a great round and super friendly staff and players on the course.
Make 18 a par 5
I suggest New tee boxes built moved further back + elevation for the 18th hole making it long enough for a par 5 and the existing tee boxes could still be used for women’s par 5 which would make the course a par 72
