About
Castle Oaks Golf Club is situated on the historic Preston Farmlands. The Preston Castle, built in 1894 overlooks the rolling, oak-studded hills of the course. The course opened a century later but it blends in beautifully with the existing terrain, utilizing the Sutter and Mule Creeks and mature trees as natural hazards. When the golf course opened it was acclaimed as the best public course in northern California and it has remained one of the area's premier courses. The layout has an interesting mix of holes with some that are wide and forgiving and others that are narrow and play alongside environmental hazards. The meandering creeks and several lakes come into play throughout. There are many risk/reward opportunities and golfers will encounter several hazards and out-of-bounds off the tee, but overall the course is player-friendly enough to appeal to any skill level.

Castle Oaks comes from the old castle-looking build seen from the 16th fairway, that was the 1st juvenile detention facility in CA built in the the early 1900s. It was closed in the 1970s. Photo submitted by Cops1998 on 07/28/2018

The greens were punched two weeks ago but still had some speed the course has a great lay out the only thing that needs some attentions are the tee boxes but i will be back before the summer .
Love Castle Oaks
Keeping in mind it's only March but they have some challenges with their greens, tee boxes and bunkers. I hope, moving forward that they get the course in shape because it's one of my favorites. Usually it's worth the 90 minute drive but not so much right now.
Wait to play again until after they aerate the greens.
Played yesterday and the greens were horrible.
Rock hard and full of snow mold. Unputtable in some areas of the greens. I will not go back for at least two months so they can heal.
Great course
Course is getting back to shape. Greens were hard but semi fast. The greens had a fungus during the winter & the course is finally drying out.
Tee boxes still need some work.
This is one of the best courses in the area!
Windy Day at Castle Oaks
Overall great course layout and value. There’s a good mix of risk reward holes, however, 1/3 of the greens were in bad shape and the round took 5 1/2 hours to complete.
Disappointed
I’ve played here a few times before, but was disappointed that the course was in such poor shape.
Not bad for middle of winter...
Greens & fairways a little beaten up but about “par” for most courses in the area this time of year.
Castle oaks
Great course to play at! Difficult but also fun and challenging. Met some good guys to play with but pace of play was terrible. Will be back in summer time
