About
Castle Oaks Golf Club is situated on the historic Preston Farmlands. The Preston Castle, built in 1894 overlooks the rolling, oak-studded hills of the course. The course opened a century later but it blends in beautifully with the existing terrain, utilizing the Sutter and Mule Creeks and mature trees as natural hazards. When the golf course opened it was acclaimed as the best public course in northern California and it has remained one of the area's premier courses. The layout has an interesting mix of holes with some that are wide and forgiving and others that are narrow and play alongside environmental hazards. The meandering creeks and several lakes come into play throughout. There are many risk/reward opportunities and golfers will encounter several hazards and out-of-bounds off the tee, but overall the course is player-friendly enough to appeal to any skill level.

Castle Oaks comes from the old castle-looking build seen from the 16th fairway, that was the 1st juvenile detention facility in CA built in the the early 1900s. It was closed in the 1970s. Photo submitted by Cops1998 on 07/28/2018

Quite Golf course!
IT was nice playing there. Pretty flat layout. Open Fairways. Greens were hard and fast.
Good time!
The course was in good shape, and was fun to play. Wind was blowing pretty hard.
First time... won't be my last
Good course layout provides plenty of challenges. Course was in good shape and pace of play was quick (sub 4 hr round) early morning. Will definitely be back.

Love Castle Oaks
This is my favorite course in the Sacramento area. Each hole is unique and interesting. It’s challenging but not out of the ability of an average golfer.

Golf
Greens aren’t great . Used to be way better. Seems like there are a lot of brown spots and looks almost like some type of mold. Fairways are ok.
Bathrooms on the course need lots of cleaning.
Maybe it will be better when it cools of and course gets more water. Kind of disappointing since we drive an hour and a half to get there. Hope it’s better next time.

Pace of play
It would be nice if they could separate people getting on the course. My friend and I waited awhile while tee box on 1st hole sat empty, then everyone started one right after another.

Not terrible
An enjoyable place to play. Good pace. Wide fairways. A little pricey. Ground is hard as a rock except
The low spots; those are soaked and full
Of plugged balls. Green side conditions are thin and whispy on hard ground. Wedge shots are tougher than they should be. Greens roll true until the afternoon. Driving range is awful.

Pushed the match
course was awesome as usual... still the same spots that get over watered on particular parts of the course, thats nit picking though... greens were excellent, good speed and true roll.. memebers and guests need to fix there ball marks and they would be totally pure... great track, lots of character.
Constant
The staff and grounds personnel alway keep this course in great shape. I've played here a number of times and it does not disappoint.

Great value
This is the second time i played this course ... and the last time was over 3 years ago. Frankly I cannot imagine why i dont play here more often. Conditions were great and pin positions were challenging. There were no gimme holes. The course plays very fair and caters to all skills levels (based on tee box)
