Castle Oaks Golf Club
About
Castle Oaks Golf Club is situated on the historic Preston Farmlands. The Preston Castle, built in 1894 overlooks the rolling, oak-studded hills of the course. The course opened a century later but it blends in beautifully with the existing terrain, utilizing the Sutter and Mule Creeks and mature trees as natural hazards. When the golf course opened it was acclaimed as the best public course in northern California and it has remained one of the area's premier courses. The layout has an interesting mix of holes with some that are wide and forgiving and others that are narrow and play alongside environmental hazards. The meandering creeks and several lakes come into play throughout. There are many risk/reward opportunities and golfers will encounter several hazards and out-of-bounds off the tee, but overall the course is player-friendly enough to appeal to any skill level.

Most of the greens are kidney shaped, designed perpendicular to the fairway, so you don't want to go long, but plenty of run left/right Photo submitted by Cops1998 on 07/28/2018

Castle Oaks comes from the old castle-looking build seen from the 16th fairway, that was the 1st juvenile detention facility in CA built in the the early 1900s. It was closed in the 1970s. Photo submitted by Cops1998 on 07/28/2018

Golf pro not professional
Put too many people! on course.... 6 hour round diid not get to finish. Golf pro TERESA said, I quote, " that's what you get when you pay discounted golf." Unprofessional rude pro. Carts didn't even make it stalling at 13.... Left the course
Awesome course and condition
This is my home course, but having said that I play numerous others in the region. Always in great condition thanks to Mike Lahmann and his staff. The pro's Dom and Teresa are great as well. As a avid 30 + year player highly recommend it to anyone who wants really fun but depending on tees challenging course !!!! Something for all skill levels !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sunshine during winter!
A beautiful day on a challenging course playing with strangers that ended up being a lot of fun! The greens were excellent with just a few fairways wet from the recent rains. A great course for the money!
winter golfing
Well if you love to golf the weather not that important it was a beautiful cool winters day so your balls don't go as far as they would if it was 90 degrees over all the course was in good shape and staff friendly as always
Every hole is different
I like this course because every hole is different. They all challenge you in different ways. Several options off most of the tees.
Alow
Course is in good shape. Greens are rolling true. Wish we could have played better, but overall the course is very challenging. Placing shots is key.
Well Maintained Course
Castle Oaks is one of the best courses in the Sacramento area. Green and lush, well trimmed fairways and great greens make it a pleasure to play here. Not a lot of elevation change, so it can be walked. The bunkers were quite wet which made them difficult.
Good golf experience
Friendly staff, offered to let me start on back 9. Course and greens in good shape. Bunkers were playable but need sand.
Great challenging course!!
I enjoyed my round here. I am a high handicap golfer (22) but enjoyed the challenging holes. They weren't impossible to play, but they make you use more strategy than the normal muni course. Make sure you wear a collared shirt, since there is a dress code here. Worth the drive from the Sacramento area!!
Castle Oaks
This is the best course in the area. The greens are true and the fairways are always in great shape. The view around the course are very nice. Can't wait to play here again.
Good conditions except the traps
Tee boxes, greens and fairways in excellent shape for this time of the year. Need fresh sand in the traps.
Great time
Second time here was a little bit of a drive but we'll worth it. We had a great time. We will be back .
fun course
great deal and price thru Golf.now,,,front desk was great and accomodating
Great Deal!!!
I really like this course and have shot some of my better rounds there. Unfortunately normal fees are a ways out of my golf budget but with Golf Now hot deal at just $15 it was a no brainer. Fairways and greens were in exceptional shape considering our ongoing water restrictions. Castle Oaks is a great place to play, has the best driving range in the area, a great bar and restaurant with a very friendly staff.
Great course
Had a great time, was mothers day got out early and almost nobody on course! Did 18 holes in about 3hrs and we weren`t in a hurry. Played here before and always have enjoyed this place.
Nice time
Course maintained very well, drought aside this course needs water. Greens true but very hard. Fun layout,, it's early May, back in a month, hopefully it's not dried up.
nice course
Course lay out could be better. Played slow with no marshall to be found
birthday round
great day on a beautiful course really getting in shape since winter played with my son for his birthday gift loads of fun
Awesome round of golf
The course was in fantastic condition. The greens were so pure. Overall a wonderful experience.
GolfNow and Castle Oaks tee time policy that you agreed and signed prior to booking:
"Discounted tee times are non-refundable and cannot be cancelled. No rain checks issued."
Teresa was nice enough to make an exception for you and gave you a rain check.
Director of Golf
We try to please all of our guests but some people are too unreasonable to accommodate. Yelling at and bullying the staff for any reason is unacceptable. We do not give a refund once you tee off or a full refund after you have played 13 holes. We gave a 9 hole rain check even though the player only paid for nine holes. GolfNow! is dealing with this issue.
