Good value. Great greens.
Woodly Lakes was in pretty good overall condition. The greens are better than they have been for a long time. Pace of play was great. Played 18 holes in 3 hours with everyone in the group walking. Great time playing again.
Good to be out.
Course is stricked on wearing your masks. Greens were nice and fast. Straight as an arrow just like I remembered it. Grass super thick in some areas. Walked the course in which I'm starting to prefer. Course had strange golf cart rules.
The range is worse than it was before
The Driving Range:
Nobody cares about the AstroTurf landing areas. All people care about is whether the balls are decent and whether the hitting area, if real grass as in this case, is good to hit off.
They had the range closed for the month of December when the rains hit. Presumably to let the grass grow and let the roots set in.
Lo and behold we come back to it in the new year, and there is no grass. It’s all the same terrible sand-based thin layer of bad Bermuda they laid when they shut the range down for a few months when they decided to lay the AstroTurf out in the field. What a waste of money that was.
There is barely any grass on the hitting area. It’s like hitting off a bunker that has grass just barely growing on it. It’s so sad that they take people’s money and charge the same for the poor conditions like this. Yes we got rains but not enough apparently as the range was dry and all sand.
They need to switch back to the mud layer, and over seed the range like there’s no tomorrow.
The course is the same. The course is getting water.
Why is nobody watering the range. Why is nobody seeding the range so that the grass grows.
Good times.
Nice open course. Easy straight forward holes not to difficult. Pace of play is excellent moves along very well. With the greens in great shape and the use of reclaim water. Excellent
Wide open
A good course to work on your game. It's main defense is length, as its wide and flat. And it's not real long, so it's real main defense is you, the golfer. Speed if play was avg for a nice Saturday at 4:45 and I shot 85 which is my best round in 6 months. A place I will bring my wife to as she is getting back into the game and needs few course challenges. Overall a pleasant but not challenging course.
Great place for the money
This is a great place for the money. The Greens were in great shape. The pace was good. Just a great experience for the money.
First timer here
The municipal course was in OK shape, considering the drought conditions. While the fairways had some rough areas, the greens were in very good condition. My only warning is booking on GolfNow, you are charged for a cart, but if you ride single, they charge an extra $4.
Great day of golf
The greens are in great shape. The warm weather has the fairways greening up nicely. The pace was excellent and the price makes it a great deal. I'll play Woodley again soon.
Wide
Wide course. You can hit drivers every hole of Par4-5. I thought there are a lot of "Lakes" but even if there are it doesn't impact your course management. I think this is a fairly easy course.
Great Course
I love Woodley Lakes GC. It's my "home" course for many reasons. First, the grass driving range is essential.. Hitting off of mats is no fun and isn't real practice for the course. The greens were in great condition, but the fairways were cursed with severe brown patches and large portions of dead grass. Hitting my second shot, on #10, a 443yd., 90* dogleg right, from the left, dead rough, and 220 yds. out, I managed to leave myself, roughly, a 20', downhill, left-to-right breaking putt for birdie, and I dropped it. It's the hardest hole on the back nine, and the 2nd hardest hole on the course, and only the 3rd time I've birdied it, so look forward to that one! The tee boxes were hit-and-miss. Some were nicely cut, and green, others were newly-seeded and not in satisfactory condition. The bunkers, of which I found 2, were only in fair condition--the sand was very hard-packed and resembled dirt or cart path firmness, which makes scrambling that much harder and unpredictable. Unrepaired pitch marks on the greens are a the biggest nuisance, and they really should put signs, in front of every green, asking golfers to repair at least 1 pitch mark on every green. I have adopted that as an operating principle for every round I play, and, I f we all did that, it would really makes a difference, and the greens would always be in, at the very at least, good condition. When it comes to buying buckets of balls for the range, it seems that a small bucket is actually the size of a medium bucket--at $3, $6, and &9 each, you definitely get your money's worth. The putting greens and chipping area are perfect--there are 2 putting greens, one in front and 1 in back, with course-equivalent speed, contours, and condition, as well as a practice bunker and green, for refining those crucial "scoring" scenarios and skills. Recently renovated restaurant, and the acquisition of a liquor license, make snacks, beverages, and post-round meals an added benefit. 1/2- lb. Angus burger, fries, and a soda are more than a bargain. I really can't say enough about this course, Woodley Lakes GC. This course is a must for any golfer looking for value, facilities, and overall enjoyment.
Just OK
The facilities are poor, the staff looks like they don't like their job and not the nicest in the world. The course was flooded, ok it had rained the days before, but the grass had lack of maintenance. Bunkers look like concrete. Practice facility also below average.
Better options in LA
Played on a Sunday morning in Dec. Other than the greens, the course is in pretty bad shape. The fairway and areas are not maintained properly. Pace of play is decent, but depends who's in front you.
Perhaps my expectations were semi-high after paying $55, but even for a muni, it's pretty below-avg.
It literally feels like you're golfing in the middle of a park.
Good Value
It's wide, flat and not a ton of hazards. Good place to go to get your game back on track. Forgiving. Restaurant finally has beer again, but they were understaffed. Waited too long to get a post round beer as the Cook was ringing the register and waiting tables. He was friendly, but stretched too thin. Food was tasty, beer was cold. The greens are in great shape. Rest of course condition is average at best.
If you want to go out and hit the ball, this is ok
Wide-open, forgiving course. You have to really try to lose a ball. That being said, the fairways were decent and the greens were surprisingly good. Driving up to the course for the first time was a little bit of an "uh-oh" moment (not a thing of beauty) but if you can deal with the fact that this is an opportunity to spend 4 1/2 hours golfing and enjoying the outdoors, you'll be ok.
