Great Day!!
I was able to snag a tee time here thru Golfnow and had a great day!! This is a private course and it shows. The course was in great shape and the greens were phenomenal!! Lightning fast. Kicked my butt and i enjoyed it!!!
Fun Track
Have played Candlewood over 10 times and most of the time it’s been good, but this last time I ran into a 6 some on the 4th, so decided to skip some holes than ran into another 6 some, which is absolutely ridiculous! I thought about becoming a member, but after seeing 2 groups of 6 somes it’s not going to happen. Most of the time I play here the play is pretty slow. I really enjoy playing Candlewood. It’s a pretty tight course and hitting fairways and greens are a must! I like a course that has that challenge of having to be spot on to score well! I’ll definitely be back, hopefully no 6 somes out that day!
Great course
This is a really fun course with challenging greens. Great value and a lot fun. I recommend it highly.
Great fee for an interesting course
Thoroughly enjoyed my round at Candlewood. A buddy and I got to go out as a twosome at 11:30 a.m. and we had zero issues with pace of play; finishing in approx 3hrs & 45mins w/ zero rushing. Granted, the openness of the course was probably down to it being Super Bowl Sunday but we finished our round in time for kickoff so it was all good.
Overall, pretty interesting track with just enough elevation changes and slopes to keep it fun but not be absurd. Not anywhere near as narrow or tree-lined as some other reviewers have stated. The greens were in GREAT shape and had some tricky subtlety to them.
Bottom line, it’s priced very reasonably and will provide an entertaining round. Course itself isn’t spectacular or even particularly visually attractive. However, it’s far more interesting than nearby muni courses and kept in waaaaaay better condition.
Hidden Gem
Have driven by Candlewood for years, never played it. Finally got on the course and was totally impressed. Very nice course, the staff is awesome, and the pace was phenomenal. Loved this place and looking forward to another round there.
Candlewood
Good course, yet they need to show you lay out of course shooting blind on some fairways. Fun time
Not a bargain
If you are looking to play a 'private' course for $60, look elsewhere. This course, while it is 'private' is no better than a mediocre muni in the area. There are numerous bare spots in the fairways and rough, greens are quite fast but rather bumpy and the fairways are lined by creeks or heavy underbrush so that any ball leaving the fairway is lost. The very narrow fairways mean - bring lots of balls.
If this isn't bad enough, POP was awful. I played on a Tuesday afternoon with a 12:00 tee time as a single ($62). I arrive at 11:00 and asked if I could go out earlier since the first tee was open. The Pro Shop guy admonished me saying that since I had bought the tee time at Golfnow, I couldn't go out early even if nobody else was teeing off. So I waited and 45 minutes later three foursomes arrived - 10 walkers. The net result was that at 4:45 with darkness settling in I picked up on hole 15. Had I played 18 holes I was headed for a 5 1/2 hour round - PRIVATE COURSE?????
Good course
great pace of play - checked in and was immediately told that despite my collared shirt, I need to have it "tucked" in all time otherwise I can get kick out.... come on this is a nice course but who;s kidding who, not private country club level... otherwise short course but well manicured. a lot of back and forth long fairways without dog leg
Hard to find yardage
Yardage markers hard to find and crossing other holes on cart paths. Hole layout none existence on tee boxes and for a private course fairways were chewed up as well as some tee boxes. Worth the GolfNow price but not for membership.
Total disappointment~
First of all, greens been punched and sanded... GolfNow didnt mention about that so did candlewood. I don't think Candlewood course is ready for public clients.
Very deceiving
This course is a lot tougher than it looks. It’s not long, but you need to be very careful with your tee shot. Fairways are narrow. The greens are real quick.
Gotta Play It!
This great golf course invites you to go for it off several tee boxes. The risk vs reward is great with the course layout. I played as a single and rarely had to wait to tee off on the weekend. I am very appreciative the management/ ownership has allowed non members to enjoy this course as well!
Thank you team Candlewood!
best bang for your buck in LA or Orange county
I have to say as a real golfer I give this course high ratings, you cant beat the price. forget how the clubhouse is, forget how the tuna sandwich is, as a golf course its great. greens are above average, layout is challenging (if you can score here you can score anywhere) and for the price its a must play. staff was nice, carts were a little old but its got me around the course like a cart is supposed to. I play oak creek, tustin ranch, tijeras creek and other south OC courses and this one is my favorite.
Where else can you play at 2:00 on a sunday and finish in 3.5 hours? well at candlewood you can. I never write reviews but this deserved one.
