Fun course
The course wasn't too bad and a good way to spend the day. However, there were only 6 holes open, so we played those 4 times each. Luckily, we never had to wait long between 6 hole replay. Hard to rate course with only 6 holes.
Nice course
Course is at a higher elevation than Palm Springs which makes it very pleasant on hotter days. Also allows for a later tee time. Unfortunately they were reseeding which left only 6 out of 12 holes open so we played 3x6. Look forward to coming back and playing the whole course when everything is back opened up. All ‘n all a very pleasant place to spend the afternoon.
Good value
15 degrees cooler than PS. Only 6 of 12 were open that said You could probably play as much as you want. We played 6 from tips- 6 from blues and last 6 half and half. A good place to work on your skills. Greens were in good shape soft and true unfortunately there are some that still need a lesson in repairing divots. Good sand in the traps. Fairways a little thin almost links style.
High desert golf
Course has a total of 12 holes of which 6 were in process of being reseeded. Therefore played front 6 three times. Would have liked to do all 12 as the back 6 looked interesting. Greens were a bit rough and some traps had very hard sand. Could play the front 6 as much as we wanted, price reasonable. Will go back when all 12 holes open.
Best course to play in summertime
The options are limited in the summertime in the desert becauses it's simply too hot to play. This course is n the high desert so it's 10-15 degrees cooler than palm springs. The course is fun as always but beware they tend to overwater the course and there are several spots of mucky water-soaked fairway, leading to a mud flinging divot.
Great value, great day.
Really enjoyed the round here and we will definitely be back. Staff in the pro shop and restaurant were friendly and accommodating. Fairways had some rough spots but they were still very playable. Greens were in great condition. Got an "early bird " rate which really made it a super value.!
Course a bit soggy but not surprising in view of the rain recently. Did not really have a negative impact on our round. Very reasonably priced. Will golf there again.
Very pleasant surprise
This is a 12 hole course and a very pleasant surprise as to the layout and facilities. The course conditioning was well above average and more than comparable to the valley courses in particular the greens. We will be back to play this gem.
1st Timer
Surpassed expectations the course was in good shape and playing 18 holes in 6 hole increments was a new experience. Beautiful surroundings and great weather. Will definitely play this course again.
3 rounds of 6 holes
Winter reseeding resulted in only first 6 holes open, so 3 rounds of 6 holes. Constant wind was distracting. Otherwise great experience and would go again.
Hawk's Landing
Rode the Blues (6121/67.7/115) for $23 with Bill in 3H mid day. The weather was partly cloudy and in the mid 90's.
Hawk's Landing is the only golf course within about 25 miles in any direction from where it is located. Fairly wide open and a good mixture of holes. The layout is a 12 hole course where you play one of the 6's twice to get in 18. I played the front twice, which = Par 71. If you play the back twice it would be a par 70.
The tees were fairly lush, level with minimal unfixed divots.
The fairways were okay, about 50/50 lush/thin with a few browned out areas.
The rough was mostly thin but had good coverage. The rough around the greens was mowed low, making for lots of low options on chipping.
The sand traps were nicely maintained with thick, deep, soft sand.
Not alot of undulation on the large, raised bent green complexes. No large tiers or huge breaks. The greens were smooth and medium speed, they putted well.
The customer service was excellent from everyone encountered. No Marshall or drink cart, this is a no frills course. Basic carts, no GPS. Range had mats, decent putting green. Very fun course, Recommended.
Hawk's Landing
Rode the Blues (6121/67.7/115) as a single in slightly over 2H mid day. The weather was completely overcast, muggy and in the 80's.
12 hole course. Interesting concept to have two 6 hole divisions, and you play one side again for 18 holes. Par 71 if you play the front twice, par 70 if you play the back twice. The layout is fairly wide open with a good mixture of holes. I did not have super high expectations coming in, but both the layout and the playing conditions were decent.
The tees were decent. Good coverage, fairly level and not that many unfixed divots.
The fairways were mostly good, with occasional browned out areas. 50/50 lush/thin.
The rough was more thin than lush but had good coverage. The rough around the greens are mowed low, making for easy chipping.
The sand traps were very good. Thick, deep, soft sand. Almost too deep, I had a couple of fried egg lies.
The bent greens were nice. Smooth, medium speed, they putted well. Not alot of undulation on the large green complexes.
The customer service was excellent in both the pro shop and the restaurant. Had a hot dog/soda, good and reasonably priced. Basic carts, no GPS. Range had mats, decent putting green. Very fun course, if I have time, I am stopping on my way back down the hill tomorrow. Recommended.
we like the ability for the girls to play 12 and the guys went on to 18.the greens were in great shape but the course was dry. cheers
