Very nice
First time playing
Excellent shape. Just hope I can afford to play again
New course in Wellen Park
First chance to play this new course in Wellen Park. Got a nice discount on golf now. Beautiful course, Friendly staff. Amenities not there yet. Course is not difficult, and great for higher handicap players. I enjoyed playing a round on a Sunday afternoon in just under 4 hours. We will be back!
Great new course!
Excellent condition, challenging layout. Great new course.
Very Nice golf course
The course basically just opened so there are no amenities to speak of and porta-potties so I can't rate the course on things other than just the golf. The course itself is really great couple of quirky holes like most courses but overall the greens rolled well, the conditions tee to Green albeit excellent, the course was playing hard and fast meaning you had to hit a lot of shots into the aprons in order to hold the greens. I did get a good deal on it from golf now and I will say it is the nicest course I have played in the Venice area. We were lucky enough to have a beverage person show up and she was wonderful. Because of the way the course is set up at the moment I would certainly suggest trying to get a good golf now deal on it as you won't be getting the full experience. Like most places trying to be upscale I did think the $6 beer was a little pricey compared to other venues in the area. But if I can keep getting a decent deal to play the place I will probably play here more than the other courses just because of the overall conditions of the course itself.
Still needs work.
The golf course is beautiful, the weather was perfect and we had a grand time. However, I do have two gripes that need attention. Our major gripe, and this applied to our whole foursome, was that we couldn't find a tee box that we wanted to play. The course has tee boxes at 5,600 yard, 6,300 yards and 7,000 yards. For some players these lengths will work out perfectly, but for our group we wanted a 6,000 yard and a 6,600 yard tee box, so some of us ended up playing long and the others played short.
My second gripe is, oh my goodness do you have too much sand in the bunkers. More is not better guys. Take about 1/2 out and you'll be closer to right.
Neither of these gripes will stop me from playing the course again, but they do bump other options up the list. A price drop of $20-$25 would make this course as it plays more competitive for my money.given it's deficiencies.
Nice
Once the clubhouse is finished and everything is grown in this will be a very nice course. Could use a ranger or two on the course to move people along, pace wasn't very fast.
Round 3
This is my third time playing Wellen and it hasn’t gotten any easier. The course is in perfect condition and the staff is awesome. You will need to sharpen your course management skill on this tract. Hope to return many more times.
New fun course
Play it while you can. Lots of fun and interesting setup.
Close to perfection
As a Venice resident our group has been watching the build of this course since the first shovel of dirt was turned over. Ignoring the construction around every corner the course was close to perfect. Understandable was the hardness of the course due to its early life but it will be awesome in time. The fairways were perfect never a bad lie. The rough was playable and the greens were like glass but rolled true. The staff from the bag men, the pro shop and the beverage cart person were inviting and informative. The only downside is the price. Hoping the prices will drop a little during the summer. Will play it often.
Really
I know it's a new course.. but really 159.00$. To play golf.. owners should concentrate bringing in new clients instead of over charging.. but overall a beautiful golf course.
wow
like playing in the desert courrse in a plus condition will be a plus when finished not a149 course . would recommened grart value at 95 on line.
Not worth the money
Wellen Park just opened, has a trailer for a clubhouse, one porta-pottie and one water station per 9 and yet charges north of a $100 per round. I think 'prime time' tee-offs are $149.
There are 2 or 3 really wonky holes to accommodate for future housing. The 534 yd par 5 5th hole does almost a complete 180 degree turn such that the green is only 290 yds away from the tee albeit across the preserve.
This is an $85 course, at best, not a $125-$150.
