A quietly strong layout
Of the courses in the area, San Ramon isn’t where you’d go for manicured, criss-crossed fairways, but it’s a course with quietly strong layout.
The good:
While their greens may have a few more ballmarks than some of the other courses in the area, they’ve done a great job and they’re rolling better than most.
They’ve recently resanded the bunkers. They’re probably the best on the 680 corridor right now as far as public courses go. (Summer 2021)
While it’s a relatively straight forward layout, there’s enough variety and risk/reward and the more I play this course, the more I appreciate how strong they layout actually is.
The rough:
Part of me is just getting old, but you used to be able to play this course really inexpensively - especially midweek or late afternoon. Whether the pandemic or other market forces, it’s gotten expensive comparatively. It’s an amazing $35-40 course. I feel taken advantage of if paying $60-70.
Feedback for app
prepayment of some of the green fees is not ideal, you end up paying more for making the reservation compared to foursome. Also, walking options should be more Available
Pace of play
Marshall no where to be found, 4 some in front of us shotgunned a beer every hole and reshot 3 times as we sat watching in front of a par 3. Played this course before and enjoyed it but for 80$ this is a bit ridiculous
Will play here again
Its been several years since I played San Ramon, the greens were in great shape, the fairways pretty good, but because of drought conditions there are some places that are lacking care. Played at 10 AM, expected the pace to be a little better but some slower players were ahead of our group, we actually got waved thru two threesomes, and we were a foursome.
Great first experience
I got a discount for the cart…was joined with some regulars. Had an awesome time. The course is not easy…but very doable.
Course is OK for the money
Course in decent condition. Pace of play very slow today.
BEST CONDITIONS I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED AT COURSE
I HAVE PLAYED SAN RAMON MANY TIMES AND THIS IS THE BEST CONDITION I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED .
