Golfer Reviews
Nice course
Nice course. Only downside was extra long grass next to the fairway. Lost several balls only a foot or so from the fairway.
Exceptional Greens, Sub-Par remaining course maintenance
Kudos to the marketing team and the GolfNow pictures - they grabbed my attention and thus guided me to choosing this course.
Pros:Extremely friendly gents in the pro shop - very accommodating for rental set needs and getting us into the course impromptu.
I am from out of state, and was delighted at the quality and smoothness of the greens. To me, putting quality is the single biggest dealbreaker to me regarding course review. I was so appreciative of how well they were taken care of.
Cons: I think most of the water and effort is spent on maintaining the greens, at the cost of the fairways and tee boxes. I think they’re trying to get ahold of where to water, as some locations had standing water, whereas others were more barren. And in true WestCoast Fashion, I found myself losing my ball merely feet off the fairway from some of the longer rough - what a surprise! Many overgrown rough patches, whereas others are absent.
My only critique (not just on this course) is tee boxes that are clearly not level. At least on grass mounds that have flat surfaces, it would make sense to place the markers there, opposed to 75% of the ones today forcing me to choose between the ball well above or below my feet.
Overall I enjoyed the course, loved the staff and greens, and would recommend it, especially for the price. It’s no more than $30 to walk 9-18 in the afternoons and it’s worth the price.
2nd time better than experience
This is my 2nd time playing Las Positas and although I’ve had a couple of good experiences the 2nd time was by far better. Grass conditions were much improved. The layout of the course was fun and my son and I really enjoyed ourselves. Would return again
Great course
I think the staff and greens keepers do a great job at keeping this course in great shape. The staff was friendly and the beverage cart made several passes during our round which was great since it was hot that day. Greens were in great shape and it’s great to see they upgraded their power carts.
Needs some love
Decent course if you're just looking to get some practice off some difficult lies and rough fairway terrain. Fairways are in pretty bad shape.
Wouldn’t recommend
Older guy at the club house was not nice and pass of play is always slow, first time we were delayed for 45 min, second time they tried to move our tee time
Course conditions from bad to worse
Played here several times and observed that every time i play the course conditions seems to continue to deteriorate especially the bunkers and the fairways. On several greens, there are lots of leaves and duck poops. With the price you paying ~$70+ , was expecting better playing experience. Probably won’t be playing here for quite a while.
Decent layout with Barron bunkers
Course has decent layout but maintenance is sub par. There is almost no sand in the bunkers and there is uncontrollable irrigation that leaves water puddles across the fairways. Check-in was great and pace of play was good until we reached hole 10. Two groups of 11 beginner level kids were started from back nine just as we finished front nine. We had to wait over 30 minutes on hole 10 and 11 which was very frustrating. I decided to skip next 3 holes since there was nobody in between these 2 groups and ahead of them. This was gross negligence from course management.
LasPo Review
Course layout is good but maintenance is bit poor. All bunkers were rock solid with almost no sand but only rock solid soil and some with stagnant stale water. The course otherwise is very enjoyable with at least good greens and reasonably ok fairways.
Las Positas review
Course layout is good -not very tough but great for the money and practice rounds! Perfect weather & enioyed.
Back 9
Ideally the front 9 will look and play as well as the back nine.
The tee boxes are in need of TLC.
I liked the golf carts, a lot— smooth and powerful..
But overall, for what we paid—and for my first time playing there I can say it was a happy day
Getting Better
This course is coming along. Third time playing the course and it's much improved from the first time I played about a year ago. The fairways are not patches of grass anymore and the greens are in very good shape. The only thing that has not been improved is the bunkers. If you're staying away, it may be time to give the course another chance.
