Canyon Lakes - San Ramon
Pace of play is always terrible. Always has been. The spacing between groups just isn't adequate.
Sand is great; fairways have gone downhill since Covid. Assume to be in a dirt patch on every other shot...especially if you are in the faairway.
Design is fun. They really could get this back to a top East Bay Course if they were willing to put some money into the course maintemnace.
Condition
Many tee boxes were bare not much grass and not level. A few Sand traps need sand. No beer girl on course on a Saturday !!!
Course is getting better
This course was pretty bad and rundown… but recently management have been stepping up! I can see a lot of positive changes and improvements. The greens, tee boxes and fairways are getting much better. You can tell they are pouring money in to fix everything. Course is challenging, narrow with lots of trees and some water features. If you can master this course, you can play everywhere.
WORST VALUE IN THE BAY AREA
This course has been on a rapid decline the last couple years. Decided to give it another try today. Every tee box and every green are diseased. So badly on some you can’t even find a good enough lie to hit off. They are still charging 93$ with cart. Absolute joke. Will not be coming back until they decide to put some care into their facility
WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS COURSE?
When I was living in San Ramon in 2022, I got into golf and this was one of the first golf course I have played.. yes it’s a difficult course for a beginner but the conditions and the layout made the experience a fun one. Now that I’m a bit more experienced and have played over 50 courses.. coming back to play this for the nostalgia just left me with disappointment.. greens were apparently aerated but were still in bad shape almost 2 weeks out. The fairways were horrible.. very patchy with dried up dirt so even hitting fairways weren’t rewarding. I found turf inside bunkers which made them look hideous. Don’t even try hitting from the bunkers, save your club face some nasty dents/scratches. At least the staff were nice. I don’t see myself coming back here anytime soon especially for the $60+ green fees. Do yourself a favor and spend that money at Callippe or Boundary Oak..
Nice value
staff was excellent. Course had some spotty areas, but understandable for end of summer.
What Happened?
Haven't been to Canyon Lakes in awhile. The course was tore up. Such a shame as it's an incredibly nice layout and very challenging. Tee boxes were in bad shape and the greens had a lot of dry dirt. The fringe was unkind as it had so many bald spots. It has by far the best restaurant and selection of drinks in the Bay Area. Hopefully the course recieves a little more TLC in the future.
I have played this course many times and it has gone way down hill. Half the tee boxes were sand. Greens were terrible. Fine to play if you are getting a hot deal, otherwise I would avoid.
This course is in terrible condition
Fairways are covered in burrowing animal holes and dirt. The greens are covered in fungus and burned out. Sand traps are hard pan and tee boxes are a mess.
Such a shame because this course has a nice layout, friendly staff and good food. They just don’t take care of it at all. I heard they are trying to sell and build homes on it so maybe they don’t care, but for 70-85.00 a round it should be in better shape. Bridges across the street is in great shape, but I hate the layout of that course.
