Ups and downs - poor greens
The course was interesting with several levels of tees and ups and downs with lots of trees. The quality of greens was bad
Played this while visiting Atlanta
Got charged $35 for rental clubs which was not cleaned up or maintained for playing 9 holes after 6pm and it wasn't great . I just couldn't understand why they let me go off the back 9 after 6 pm which was already busy
Overall, I give ok for this course though there are lots of room for improvement on and off course
I give this course has mixed reviews
Tee boxes are in poor shape - uneven and have little or no grass.
Cement cart paths are an "off road" experience.
Some of the course "Ambassadors" are anything but - tell you to speed up play without due cause.
One member of the food service staff has no personality.
On a positive note, pro shop and cart barn staff are friendly and accomodating.
Newly renovated range is a definite plus.
Club pro is friendly, a good instructor and offers very affordable lessons.
Fun Course
I played Trophy Club of Atlanta two years ago and swore that I wouldn't come back due to the very slow pace of play and the course conditions. Last Sunday morning I saw the course had tee times that were open and the price was pretty reasonable so I decided to take a chance. I am glad I did. The course was in excellent condition and I completed the round in little over 4 hours. This is really a fun course to play and the management has done a great job in the pace and in the condition of the course. This course will be on the pick list of courses going forward.
Great value
Course layout is good. Length fits right into my ability to be challenged but still have a good time. I got a great deal for the time we teed off. Course was crowded and pace was slow. Bar couldn't make long islands or margaritas which was a bummer. Still we had fun and will go back.
Lousy condition
I have played the Trophy club more than 25 times but today I was so disappointed. I know it's February but the fairways and tee boxes were terrible. Greens were playable but the rest of the course was mud and thin grass. Bunkers were concrete! Sorry Trophy Club but that was a waste of $44.00. They should let you know when you book that the course is in poor shape. Probably be a long time before I go back.
Enjoyed this course
Played here on a cold windy day at the beginning of January and I felt the course was in good shape for this time of year with all the rain the Atlanta area has had in the last month. The course was wet and it was cart path only but that was too be expected. I thought the greens were in excellent condition and rolled true and fast. The place of play was excellent and the staff was very friendly to me.
One of the best deals in Atlanta
The trophy club has one of the best deals in Atlanta - called the Players Club - if you can play in the afternoons its worth it, look it up. The greens are almost always great, general course conditions are good, layout is interesting, and staff is friendly. Make the trip.
Rough and worn course
Several of the tee box were dirt or mud. The fairways would not drain well from the over night rain. No cart girl. They allowed a six-some to play which slowed things down quite a bit.
Don't go
Staff was very rude. Score card was already completed. One of our carts dies. Refreshment cart was empty, she told us just to go to the clubhouse. Greens were terrible.
Always fun
As pretty as ever, greens extremely slick but rolled true, course in great shape.
Rough too long
Greens were in good shape but the rough was US open length - too many lost balls if we didnt get it on the fairway or the green.
Nice Course
Have played this course on numerous occasions. It is a nice layout with a few easy holes and a few difficult holes. Most of the par 4's seem relatively short but are not easy if you even get 2 feet off of the fairway as the rough is deep at this course. In fact, pace of play would be much faster if the rough weren't so deep as a lot of time is spent looking for balls that have completely disappeared. Greens are in nice condition. Overall a great golf course.
Not a great experience
Rough was so high, lost balls that rolled a foot off the fairway. Pace was slow, probably due to people searching for their balls. Had to wait on every hole then idiots behind us hit into us and bounced a ball off the top of my cart with my 12 yo son inside. Needless to say I was not happy. Not a good experience.
Less rough after cut
Played here yesterday and the course was in great shape. In the morning it was raining so I was hesitant to follow through with the tee time, but am glad that I did as it ended up clearing and was a great, cool day. They had a tournament at 1pm shotgun starting time, our tee time was at 3pm and we were able to play in 4:30 hours. I'm guessing the rain in the morning had some people cancel their golf plans improving pace of play.
Course is in great condition. It is on the shorter side, about 6k from the blues, but is still challenging. Fairways are great shape and greens run true and fast. One or two greens had some issues on the outer edge but nothing that should effect anyone. I guess people complained about the rough because they did cut it to a reasonable height. I think this will help pace of play tremendously and made the round more enjoyable.
Tip: Keep the ball below the hole on #4. If you are above the hole it can easily turn in to a 3 or 4 putt.
Very enjoyable round
I was going to play as a single but the starter and I were having such an enjoyable conversation that other singles showed up for their tee time so we made it a 3-some.
Maintenance Mondays?
We went to tee off and were told that Mondays are for maintenance and all the greens were being heavily sanded. This basically ruined any chance of a solid round because the greens were mostly sand and any chance to hold a line and speed were hopeless. This would have been nice to know ahread of time from GolfNow when booking the tee time.
Otherwise, the day went OK, however ground crews were usually oblivious to our playing and one rude crew member was blowing off fairways and greens we were on by pulling a very loud, large blower machine with a cart very close to us playing.
Very narrow course
the course was very narrow and challenging. it wasn't an easy course. I got frustrated towards back 9 and skipped some holes. If you like very challenging course, this is the one but, for beginners, it would be very discouraging.
I like it overall
I've played here a few times each year, and I've played three or four two day tournaments here. It's a short course. The greens are the best part, most of the time. There are several poorly designed holes. #2 is a prime example. It's a short par5, and from the tips, your landing area is about 20yds wide and the fwy slopes left to right with hazard right and woods left. So, you have to think about laying up. But it's a par5, who's going to layup off the tee? Not me... So, for this hole you HAVE to be hitting your driver super well otherwise you'll be minus one golf ball. And the #4 fourth hole? That is a complete joke!!! You tee off with an iron to have a full wedge into the green. If you're above the hole, you're complete toast. The green is perhaps a 4 degree slope all the way around. You're going to three or four putt unless you have skill. The rest of the course is pretty good with a hole or two that just doesn't need to be there. There's a par3 that is #14 i think... you'd best be on the proper side of the green where the stick is or you will three putt for sure.
Missing attention to detail
Overall experience was fair not memorable. Pace of play from the first tee on was extremely slow. We had an 7:50am teatime and didn't finish until 1:15 PM . The course was relatively short , narrow and quirky . The greens were very good fast and true . Overall the staff was friendly, however the cart girl scarcely turned up throughout our entire round . The two times we saw her throughout our 5 1/2 hours on premises was on the 10th hole and the 17th hole . Naturally on the 10th we had already stopped at the halfway house and on the 17th we were almost done with our round .
My cart was in poor condition ( bumpy & out of balance) and most of the card -path was in need of repair. Just not what I expected from a top-notch golf facility.
The rough did not seem very long but any ball hit slightly off the fairway will require you to walk on the ball order to find it.
I expected more.
With a name like Trophy Club and knowing this area, I expected a little more from this club. The cart paths are a mess. Whoever made them must have tried to skimp on the preparation, because its a bumpy ride! The rough was cut pretty deep, so it was very easy to lose a ball. Some of the tees were obliterated and there were grass clippings just laying on the side of the tee. Having said all that, its a decent layout. The greens were very fast! Be prepared to have the ball run off the green if you are not careful. You also must be accurate. Not many places to hook or fade a driver. I would play here again, but will not be going out of my way to do so.
