Lane Creek Golf Club

Quite a few good players had recommended this course. A long drive to literally the middle of nowhere but once there, you are greeted with an absolutely pristine course. Beautiful layout and very forgiving for mid- and high-handicap players. Friendly staff and on my particular day of play very little traffic so I could play entirely at my pace. While the carts looked new and were spotless, probably the slowest cart I have ever driven. I don't know if all carts were set so low or just that one. And small point on the front nine I didn't see any restrooms of any kind and on the back nine a single not very clean portapotty. For a course this well maintained one would expect a little more. That would probably keep me from returning with my wife! But the course and staff are fantastic. Make the drive it is worth it.

Got a hot deal and played super cheap. Fantastic non pretentious course. Great for beginners like us. We were able to hit the driving range first then jump in and play at our pace which is pretty slow without feeling rushed. Course was fun, pretty wide open, staff was friendly, would definitely play again!

staff is professional and friendly. The young lady that works in the bar/ snack shop is very friendly and helpful. Goes out of her way to make guest feel welcome.

downside to this course is sometimes they allow larger than a foursome. makes for slow play.

Nice layout overall, and the greens are an excellent test of putting skills! Could have used a course ranger...a threesome jumped in front of our group on #10 and the slowed the entire back nine by saying on the tee box and hitting away until they got the distance that they wanted. After we commented to them, they did let us play through.

With a little more warm weather = greener fairways, this will be an extremely fun course!

Very nice course short but still you have to make all the shots. Best greens iv'e played this year. Pace of play could be worked on but wasn't bad. I joined a father and son and had good time.

Although short course miss a shot or play to short side of greens can cost you heavy.

I will definately return.

I've been playing here for several years and still enjoy playing here every time I play. Excellent layout and friendly staff. Challenging but enjoyable!

I played 18 holes by myself today. I happened to get stuck behind a group of 4 and a group of 5 beginning on hole one. I'm thinking it's no big deal because they'll let the group of 1 pass through. Wrong. I spent the entire day behind both groups. They acted like they didn't know I was behind them. They never looked back or made an effort to speed up. The foursome played from two different sets of tees. The "Ranger" came out a couple of times and noticed that I was stuck behind two groups. The Ranger was more interested in visiting and talking to the two groups in front of me and not concerned about the pace of play. My best guess is that they are members of, a public course, and don't feel the need to follow the golf etiquette rules. I stopped playing at Lane Creek on the weekends for this reason. I thought I was safe to play on a Tuesday. Pay the extra $10-$15 and play the Ga Club or UGA. Or pay less for a better course and play Hard Labor Creek. Much better rangers and attention to pace of play at these courses compared to Lane Creek.

Greens are my favorite. Want to come back in the summer to see it in full green.

Easy from all appearances yet still some challenging shots along with risk/reward opportunities that keep it challenging. Not a lot of trouble on this course so it can be a confidence builder for your game.

played on Saturday and they really should have had it cart path only. We had a group of 4 in front of us that spent most of their time talking. we skipped a hole to get in f4ront of them because they would not wave us through. Nice course though just really wt.

If i worked to maintain lane creek i would have quit after the 27th. No one was told cart path only so the place got tore up. Alot of the greens were sloppy and sluggish. And it was swampy throughout. Will i come here again yes but it wont be my first choice.

Course was in good shape. Greens held very well and were smooth and faster than the course I normally play.

Best public course in the Athens area, it's worth driving an hour to play. Greens,and fairways are in perfect condition.
The staff is very accommodating to your needs.

Played this course based on previous reviews and I would agree with them. This is a very nice course, especially for the money. It is not a very long course, 6600 or so from the TIPS but don't let that fool you. There are some short par 4's and some longish par 4's but they really get you on the par 3's, all of them I think are 190 to 218 yards... I think there were only 2 par 5's as well. Greens were in GREAT shape and were rolling great even for being Bermuda, somewhat on the quick side but a word of warning if you will... they are on the small side and are very undulating, not many flat putts to be had. Course can also be tight on the fairways but not too punishing. The cart paths need some work but all in all I would play this course again and would recommend it to friends

Fairly easy to play for the recreational golfer with cheap expense. Also this coures is located at near Athens. Players can enjoy the feeling of a pastoral scenery.

Overall great shape from tee to green. Only downside was greens not completely grown in from airefication, didn't really effect my putting. Good lies on fairway & got a good Hot deal at Golfnow

I have played Lane Creek in numerous occasions and have for the most part, found it to be an enjoyable track.

The good: pace of play was superb for a Saturday a.m. Tee time was 8:40 and my foursome finished in 4 hours. The rate was also pretty good ($38 + the fee)...or so I thought.
The bad: greens had been aerated. I didn't ask when, but it seemed it must have been within the past week or two at most. I get that courses here have to be aerated. What I don't get is why there was NO notification when I booked the time. There were numerous other courses with times that clearly identified aeration had taken place. I would NOT have made a time had I known this.

I marked that I wouldn't refer this track to a friend, but that was simply because of the lack of notice on aeration. By and large, it's a decent course.

Well it all starts with nobody in charge of who and when a group tees off. Also I define group at a max of 4. But being there is no starter, you end up behind a fivesome of college kids who happen to enjoy listening to music while they're on the course and have no respect for anyone else. This place used to have a starter ranger and would send a Marshall around that would hopefully discourage this type of behavior in a place where focus and peace goes along way to someone's golfing experience. So if it's a stress free round your looking for, this may not be the place for you.

Great course. Always in great shape and a great value! And the Shell station on 78 has great breakfast biscuits. What a great combination. Play several times a year!
