About
Originally opened in 1992, Lane Creek Golf Club changed ownership in 2006 when it also underwent a major renovation that included redesigning all of the greens and bunkers. The drainage and irrigation systems were improved as well. The lightning fast greens will test even the best golfers and they are always excellently maintained, as are the immaculately manicured fairways. In addition to reshaping the old bunkers, new ones were added to make the golf course more challenging. There are a variety of elevation changes throughout ranging from subtle to dramatic, which adds another level of difficulty to the layout. It is a tough but fair course. Lane Creek Golf Club is a favorite among locals and it is considered one of the best public golf courses in the Athens area.

time well spent
Lane Creek is a haul from home but I play there a few times a year., Just guessing, but I think Butch bought Lane Creek about 8 yrs ago and it has steadily improved year over year. Yesterday the place was in FANTASTIC shape !! Best I've ever seen it. Made a point of telling Tom Tebow , greenskeeper what a great .job he has done. Congrats to Butch, et. al. !!! look forward to coming back soon

great course, slow play
Loved the course, however, the pace of play was awful. The course seemed to be over booked. We waited on every hole and at times we were waiting along withe group in front of us. Never saw a Marshall or a beverage cart. We decided not to stop for food or drink because of length of time the round was taking.

Course Is Close to Peak Condition
Greens, very good. Pace is deceptively fast down hill down grain...smooth surfaces.
Tees, good, a couple in shady areas could use a more shade tolerant grass.
Fairways, good. Another 2 weeks of these warm overnight temps and highs in the 70+ the fairways will be a little thicker and perfect.
Bunkers had ample sand...course in great shape overall.
A 6some on the front 9 gummed everything up, but mgmt broke it up once they were made aware of it, and the course flowed much better on the back....still was 5 hrs due to all the waiting on the front.
Not long, but a good mix of holes, short and strategic, risk/reward, and a couple that require a nice poke to have a realistic GIR. I've seen the greens faster here, enough movement to make you think, but not overly penal in that regard. At the end of the day...get your speed under control and you will love the greens.
Very nice all around course
I've played this course numerous times and it is my favorite local place to play. Course conditions were very good as usual (a few of the blue tee boxes were a little chewed up, but nothing terrible) and the greens were quick and challenging, even at 8:30 AM. The staff was nice as they always are, and the pace of play was brisk (about 3 hrs 45 mins for 2 players with a cart). I highly recommend this course to anyone looking for a nice solid round of golf with a variety of challenges.
Lane Creek Masters Preview
We've played Lane Creek a number of times on our way to the Masters, we've found Madison a great little spot
to gather our groups before heading to Augusta and Lane Creek is 20 minutes from there.
Lane Creek is a fun course for everyone in the group, the good players can take on some of the tougher shots while
the lesser skilled players have all the room in the world to bail out on tough shots. Elevation changes make for some
dynamic views. The greens are fast and fun.
This year I forgot my cell phone in my cart, the guys in the Pro Shop had it back to me in days and made sure
It arrived safely. Part of a great experience at Lane Creek.
Lane Creek - APRIL 2015
Nice course and with greens that roll true. Not too difficult. I'm a 12 handicapper and played from the white tees and shot an 80. My only negative about this course is not with the course itself but with the carts. I have played this course three times and each time the carts were filthy. There were not any mechanical issues with the carts and they rode fine, they are just dirty.
Greening up nicely
We played this course early spring and considering the condition of other courses on the area, this one is greening up nicely. Tee boxes needed mowing, but the rest of the course was in very good condition, especially the greens...they rolled perfectly.
Great course conditions
Played the course today while attending the Masters. The greens were in great shape. Ball rolled pure on every green. Lots of different holes and many options off the tee. Very fun course. Play. I could play this course every day. Pace of play was excellent
Very good course for the price
This a short but fun course. The staff is very friendly. It is a well kept course, however the practice facilities need a little work. Overall, this is a great course.
best golf day ever.
Our tee time got pushed back 1 hour. And then the ranger came and asked for our cart back on the 16th hole. This being said, we never complained, and when we got back to the clubhouse the ranger gave us both a coupon for free 18 holes, all the free beer ,food,and range balls for the remainder of the day. We met Cutts Benedict, the course instructor at the range, and he saw how terrible me and my friend were and gave us free advice and a lesson. we hit 3 large buckets of balls each. Had a great 11 hours at the course. Too sore to move today, but we left feeling like kings for a day. That's the way they treat people here. They strive to be friendly from the club house, to the course,and at the range. Thank you everyone at lane creek!!!
Solid and well maintained course
I play this course several times a year. The course is usually in good condition, unless you're playing just after the greens have been aerated. The course provides excellent value and some challenging holes. While there are other courses in the area that are better, this one is well maintained and always enjoyable.
Lane creek good golf course
Lane creek is a good golf course and excellent driving range and practice facility
Not hard but not boring
Played the tips and was hitting anything from a driver to a 4 iron off the tips to set up my approach shots. The par 3s give this course some length. Greens were sneaky quick and in really good condition. Overall great course for the value. My only problem was the yardages on the scorecards didn't always match the yardage on the tee box and the fairways didn't have a lot of yardage markers (besides the 150 stake and the 100 maker).
Always in good condition
Winter golf is tough on a lot of courses around here, but LC is always in good shape. The greens were very impressive. The last time I played a couple of months back, a few of the greens weren't in the best shape. This seems to be improved. My only complaint is that the pin locations have been the same both times I've played there. Probably just a coincidence, but I look forward to playing this course with different pins.
Overall great experience
Lane Creek is very good course for golfers of all levels. The course is always well kept and the management staff understands the value of loyal customers. It's s bit of a drive from the metro but I play here often because the overall experience is well worth the commute.
