Great Potential--Under Construction
I've played Heritage Oaks 3 times over the past 6 months, and every time the course is in better shape. They have made major landscaping improvements and major changes to the course layout--new elevated tee boxes for the gold & white tees, and restructuring some water hazards. Hole #10 was closed when I played with my boyfriend on 1/3/16, but you can play a little Par 3 island green by the driving range to kind of make up for it. Fairways & greens well manicured except for the recent construction. The price could be a little better given that a hole is closed--$39 was a little steep compared with $33 to play Sea Palms on St. Simons Island and $30 to play Oleander on Jekyll Island. When they were charging $15 to $25 over the summer, I'd give the course 5 stars for value.
Old Course, Very Nice
This is one of the original courses on Jekyll Island. Very very small greens, no cart path, (Drive on fairway), good condition. Lots of fun...alligators and all!
Terrible Greems
Played two days after Christmas, and it looked like the greens hadn't been cut since before the holiday. Putting was a joke and a bad one at that. Layout is decent and fairways were okay. Tee boxes need some work and were equally shaggy. It could have been an enjoyable day but for the condition of the greens. 10th hole was out of play due to construction. Played the 100-yard island green 19th instead.
A thinking course
First time playing this course keeps you guessing. Not always sure the best landing areas so you have to pay attention. Hitting the fairway is a must! Loved the course and will go back now I have a better idea of lay up locations. They need to put better marking from hole to hole, got lost a couple of times.
WORK IN PROGRESS
It appears that the course is in the middle of a renovation. One tee box is the highest point in Glynn County. Thankfully, much of the marsh grass has been removed. It will be a great course once all renovations are complete..
Needs Some Work
The greens remain a problem. A number of them had been sanded. Putting is a more of "which way will ball bounce". I wish they would spend $$ on the greens instead of the "super raised tee boxes".
first time playing there
our first time. course was under some construction, will be fabulous when done. some challenging holes, plenty of water, and other hazards. nice course for the money. will play there whenever we visit brunswick. watch for gators on water holes, they are there. when hole 10 is completed with the upgrades, it will be nice. overseeded just completed, but greens putted well. wife shot her best score there, so it is friendly for the ladies. island green at the end did give you 18 holes since 10 is under construction. enjoy!
Greens were badly hurt
This is a beautiful course with a very intricate layout. Unfortunately the huge amount of rain in August and September took there toll on the greens due to flooding and standing water. Many area had no grass and others were very sparse. In the normal areas the greens putted extremely slow so it was quite difficult to judge speed and the inconsistency was a bit frustrating. When the greens heal, I would definitely play here again.
Ridden hard, put away wet.
This course has great potential and a lot of challenging and attractive holes and the price was reasonable. Unfortunately when I played the course, the condition was at best fair. Other reviewers stated that this course was "near PGA quality" as recently as two weeks prior to my having played it. I was told by the guys I played with that the area suffered through a ton of rain in the prior week ( I'm not from the area). The greens were slow, patched and mottled. Possible fungus? Still they shouldn't have been that bad after only a week of rain. Tee boxes, fairways and rough were also well below PGA standard.
Your statement is completely accurate. And what you were told was also accurate. In the months of July and August this area had 10 inches of rain. Sept 5 inches
A great golf experience.
Heritage Oaks is a must play if you play golf in Coastal Ga. The course has a scenic layout with many upgrades that you see at resort type courses. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, the food is excellent in the clubhouse, and the beer is cold! You won't find a better golfing experience at any price range.
Great course for the money
We didn't expect much given the low greens fees, but the course was a great bargain - challenging layout, lots of water, interesting holes. The greens were pretty slow and there was construction and a lot of ground under repair, but overall we couldn't complain given the price. Would recommend it.
really nice course
the course was challenging and in good shape, despite just arrifying the greens. We knew that coming in, and still found it to be a nice course to play. Will definitely come back!
Thank you for your review. The greens are healed up, so please come back and play again. Hope to see you soon!
Great course
Course was in great shape.People were very friendly.
Thank You and hope to see you again soon!!!
Thank You and hope to see you again soon!!!
Major renovation at this time
Tee boxes were mostly under repair. Greens we're extremely inconsistent. Fairways were overall in good condition. Carts with GPS were helpful.
Thank you for your review. We are in the process of leveling some tee boxes and that process will be finished soon. Hopefully we can earn your business again.
very nice course
Enjoy the course i love to play golf courses that i have never played before and i will tell my golf friend they must play this one.Hope to play it again soon. Its a very cood course to play just love the layout of the course.
Glad you enjoyed it! Please come back and see us soon!
Excellent course, especially considering the price
My son and i played this course for the first time today. WOW! I couldn't believe the condition of the course, as it relates the price to play. I play a lot of "value golf"- you know the price range: $25-$50. This course had me and my son thinking we were playing on a PGA tour course; very, very well conditioned. It is a challenging course, a bit tougher due to the fact we had no course knowledge, but still throughly enjoyed our round anyway. It was extremely hot & humid, but hey thats south Georgia in July (just wished there could've been at least a speck of wind..it was HOT!). I definitely recommend this course to everyone, at $20.00 (online booking rate) there's no reason not to try it.
Very nice course
We visited this course while on vacation at Saint Simons Island. This course is very nice and underated. It is an incredible value. All three of us played for what it would have cost for one to play on the Island. I was very impressed with the course conditions. The fairways were incredible. They were in as good a condition as just about any I have seen. The greens were also excellent. They were working on some of the Tee boxes, so they were a little less impressive. The course borders the marsh and there are many scenic holes. The pace of play was good. It was a great experience.
Worth the drive
Heard about this course from a friend in Georgia. Well worth the drive from Jacksonville.
Lots of challenging holes and layout was something else. Marsh views, elevation changes and lots of bunkers.
With all of the rain in recent weeks still held up well and got a chance to play the island green.
Can wait to play it again!
Great bang for the buck
Really nice golf community style course. Holes are well designed. A few course maintenance issues popped up, but overall a fun round.
Plays longer than card indicates.
Challenging course. Fairways soft with no roll. Cart path only and played long. Very picturesque.
Hello,
Heritage Oaks GC is not located on Jekyll Island. I believe your review should be for Great Dunes maybe?
