About
Conveniently situated between Athens and Lawrenceville, the Providence Club has a scenic location stretching right along the Appalachee River that makes it feel much more like a getaway. The golf course has been considered one of northeast Georgia's best since opening in 1998. The layout takes advantage of the rolling terrain, incorporating elevated tees and uneven lies. The greens often feature slopes and undulations but they are fair and they roll true. They are also known for being excellently maintained. Mature trees frame many of the holes and there are several strategically placed bunkers lurking throughout. Water doesn't come into play too often but the elevation changes will provide plenty of challenges. The golf course is player friendly enough to accommodate a wide range of skill levels with a few tricky holes to keep the round interesting.

great staff and fun golf
Check in quick, starter did great job getting carts and people off the first tee. The course is in late winter conditions, which is OK, scene it's late winter. Looks like early spring maintenance has started and should help the green up start sooner.

Still winter condition!
Course was in the good condition for this time of the year. Greens were speedy but manageable. Fairways were matted but playable. Overall was a good day to play.

Starter is very rude
Been playing here for years and the past couple of months the starter has a serious attitude problem. Needs retraining or different job.

Golf during covid
While I love everything about this course, I don’t think they’re reacting well to COVID adjustments. A solo cart should be an extra charge, $40 is excessive though. So my golf buddy makes the tee time and technically paid for a cart we would share. I’m yet comfortable sharing this confined space for 4.5 hours due to COVID. But to charge what is often a full green fee price for a solo cart is outrageous. Even worse, they run out of carts by noon on weekdays. Wouldn’t my extra fee pay for more carts to accommodate all?

Dead greens
Greens are dead and spray painted. They roll like concrete and that doesn’t seem to stop providence from placing them on hills. If you’re gonna have dead greens like that then at least place them on flat locations. Not fun losing strokes to impossible green lies cause you’re putting on dirt.
