Providence Club

About
Conveniently situated between Athens and Lawrenceville, the Providence Club has a scenic location stretching right along the Appalachee River that makes it feel much more like a getaway. The golf course has been considered one of northeast Georgia's best since opening in 1998. The layout takes advantage of the rolling terrain, incorporating elevated tees and uneven lies. The greens often feature slopes and undulations but they are fair and they roll true. They are also known for being excellently maintained. Mature trees frame many of the holes and there are several strategically placed bunkers lurking throughout. Water doesn't come into play too often but the elevation changes will provide plenty of challenges. The golf course is player friendly enough to accommodate a wide range of skill levels with a few tricky holes to keep the round interesting.

A great course for the money
Enjoy the course for the money course is in great shape we will definitely play again
Average at Best
Love the course layout and price but the greens are so bad it makes me want to never go back there again. The fairways were in great condition. Tee boxes… terrible. The price was fair and that was the only thing saving it. They have Bermuda greens and it looks like they struggled with them over the winter. It also looks like they are trying to repair them with new sod in the worst areas but the new sod is laid so poorly that I am. It sure the green will ever be right where they tried to repair. The new pieces are not even close to being level with the putting surface that is existing. I am an average golfer and do not expect anything amazing but it was honestly a real let down with how bad the greens were.
Good value
Enjoyable round for my first time here. Layout is interesting with many short par 4s, which can be fun trying to reach greens off the tee. Water comes into play on about 1/3 of the holes. Conditions were good with lush fairways and rough. Greens were cut scalped, aerated and very sandy but still rolled straight for the most part. Pace of play wasn’t great but most other players let me play ahead as a solo. Clubhouse was nice but didn’t try the restaurant. Cart paths were in decent condition with no major damage. Bunkers were in good shape but I would add a few more around the greens. Will be back but hope they will let the greens grow a little more.
So much potential…
But so much work to do. I pulled into the neighborhood and began to get excited due to the beautiful homes, well kept yards with nice sidewalks, and the well maintained roadways/common areas. Reach the club house and it’s really nice for a public/semi private course. Looks like a full bar and maybe a kitchen with a dining containing a nice tv or two playing the current PGA tourney. Didn’t really check it out. Check in, hit the first tee box and the starter is just kinda hanging out. Seemed like he could care less if I was to be paired up with the tee time I was supposed to be playing with or if I wanted to play single which was cool, but the tee sheet was stacked. Pretty short course that opens up with a downhill par 5. Hit a decent drive and the fairways are I’d say average, so I have a decent lie and am able to reach the green in two with a mid iron. Hit a great shot and have maybe 12-15ft for eagle. And here’s where I lost all luster for the round… the greens have been severely top dressed with it looks like half inch holes that were punched weeks ago. Like they just haven’t recovered and they’re top dressing hoping to fill the holes? I’m not sure, but it felt like being at a goofy golf putt putt course tee every time I would putt. You could set your ball up in a little hole and then roll your putt or more so skip, bounce and jump your way to the hole. Every hole minus 1-2 were like this which makes you wonder. Bunkers weren’t great either, the two or three I played out of on short par 4 holes were all of different consistency and hadn’t had what may be their weekly or monthly rake/turnover. Get back to the parking lot after the round and there’s two cart boys tearing through the lot jumping curbs in carts. Not that it would matter too much because the cart paths were pretty rough throughout and take a beating anyways. Just seems like management is a little loose all the way around. Overall it’s a fun layout, has tons of potential, and could be an awesome course all the way around. Definitely somewhere I’d consider living. I even texted the wife on my way in saying how beautiful the homes were, but wouldn’t be able to do it given the conditions of the course. Its a shame really. If you have other options I’d recommend going elsewhere.
Beautiful course!
Providence maybe one of the best ‘bang for the buck’ out there. Interesting holes. Water cones into play - but only on 3 holes. Not boring - interesting topography and some nice views. Greens and tee boxes great shape and course well manicured
April showers bring may flowers…greens growing in nicely!
Great value always. Greens are coming along nicely. Great pace of play, and a friendly staff. Always a pleasure at The Providence Club!
