The greens are a problem

Southbridge has so much potential to be a GREAT VALUE golf course. The Rees Jones design has some fun holes, but the greens right now are rough. In their current condition, some are virtually unplayable. Some have so many bumps due to weeds that every putt is an adventure. Others are just sand greens. This is not to say the superintendent is at fault; Southbridge is a challenging piece of land to maintain, especially with a limited budget. Even in the best conditions, these greens are tough to maintain, and the course doesn't get enough sunlight due to the surrounding tree canopy. Maybe when the weather gets really warm, the Bermuda will kick in and choke out the weeds. From tee to green, it's a fun golf course, though it would not hurt to clear away some of the trees to open things up a bit. Yes, Brian Harman grew up on this golf course, but he would probably cringe if he saw these greens.

The greens are horrible. They look like there were hundreds of plugs put in them and now they are covered in little patches of grass. Ball bumps and hops all the way to the hole. The rough needed to be cut. The grass is high, thin and seeds are now forming. I would advise not to play this course at $65 a round. In fact, we were a 3 some and paired with a member. He was so embarrassed of the course, he demanded that he take us to lunch!

Not for serious golfers

Bottom line...worst if you call greens in Savannah. Weeds dirt and plays like jinga janga. Need to focus on greens not new tee boxes.

Just sell it to someone who cares already!

Over the years I’ve played Southbridge many times, it’s my home course as I’m a local nearby and it USED to be a good course for a decent price as was a lot of Savannah area courses which many have also gone downhill. For this area (and I can name at least 5 courses just like Southbridge as far as conditions go) that all ask way to much for the conditions your getting.

Seems course managers have it in their heads that because we’re a tourist city they can get away with charging premium prices for moon condition courses. As MANY said below my review the greens are an absolute joke, if you mentally want to have a good day out when you get to the green just pick your ball up and score a 2-3 whatever you think is fair and move on every hole because if you don’t you will score the highest round of your life. Mary Calder our local muni cheap course for $44 Is in way better condition then Southbridge hate to say.

Last weekend they paired us up with 2 guys from Chicago traveling through on business, even they said Chicago courses that are buried in snow 6 months out of the year are in better shape then Southbridge which is mind blowing because we have all year to work on our courses.

Southbridge also loves to book scrambles and tournaments every Saturday at prime time for weekend golfers who just want to play, make it make sense. Hey Southbridge not everybody wants to work around the good ole boys that play your course 4 days a week during the week on weekends. If they want scrambles do it during the week. To be very honest I really don’t think Southbridge could fix the greens even if they wanted to,I truly don’t think they have the skill or knowledge to do a major fix like they need they would probably have to hire outside help at crazy cost.

So when we see (like today) every tee time slot filled we just have to ask where’s all the revenue going? 60-70$ a round and it just keeps getting worse and worse. We live in a golf Mecca in Savannah there’s no shortage of greens keepers here between all the courses and the Landings with their enormous staff we have greens keepers hire someone!

So that’s my review for this year, I’ll play another round next year and review again with some hope.

Terrible greens

Worst greens I’ve ever played on in my life and they are still charging $70 to play to 18. Course was in terrible shape.

The course greens were very bad

Course conditions especially the tee boxes and especially the greens need work. Most greens were unplayable.

No Greens!!!

Such a disappointment for a $70 Saturday round. I understand for the area that’s not a terrible price but once you get to the end of this review you’ll know why. First, this course needs to completely redo their greens. There isn’t any grass growing other than the large clumps of Poa that make putting some sick twisted game of Plinko. Large portions of cups missing, random streaking over the greens.

I have played Southbridge before and it wasn’t nearly this bad. It will be off my list going forward and hopefully GolfNow does the same thing or they will be getting complaints.

Lastly, I work at a private country club on the maintenance crew, not an expert by any means but slightly more educated than most. The photos I’ve included show huge chunks of past cup locations & greens missing grass any kind. Another picture shows an old pin location that was not set back to the proper level of the green. Golf is hard enough. Impossible to even evaluate with such poor conditions.

Good course but poor green conditions

The course setup is awesome, and the staff is super nice but, there’s no way they should be charging $60 right now. The greens were in terrible condition. I like this course but would wait ~2-3 months until they get the greens nicer.

Great layout ,Poor conditions

This course has a great layout and beautiful homes that I believe most golfers will enjoy if the conditions were better. It is very wet with little to no grass in the fairways. The greens are the worst I have ever played. The high percentage of poa annua grass on the greens knocks your ball offline just about every putt but sand traps were good. I would strongly recommend you play another course.

Greens are criminally bad

I mean 65 bucks to play is legit robbery. It would be easier to putt in a gravel parking lot. Not even worth playing it, probably the worst greens I’ve ever played on.

Poor green conditions

The greens are in very poor condition. You don't need to look at the line when you putt, because it's going to roll through the grass where there are few of them anyway.

Horrible Conditions

Southbridge Golf used to be a nice place to play golf. Not anymore. The course is in horrible shape. The greens are worse than the tee boxes and fairways. When you putt, your ball will bounce all over the painted green weeds and dirt. They really should close this course until they actually have grass on the greens and fairways. Save your money, time, and frustrations, and go play anywhere else.

Not worth the price

Played here last weekend. As previous commenter said,. The greens were full of uncut weeds and were painted. The sad part is, parts of the greens were straight up painted mud in areas not full of weeds. The weed made putting impossible. I cannot believe they are charging full price to play this course in the condition it’s ins
