Great Park District Course
The course was in great condition. The value was fantastic. Not too many places you can get 18 holes for $20 including the cart.
Nice Layout.
I have played Hilldale many times over the years and have always liked it. Designed by famed designer Robert Trent Jones, the course is short, but has many interesting holes, nice tree-lined fairways and enough hazards and other challenges to keep the lack of length from making it too easy. You don't always need the driver, but you do need to hit it straight. The course was in good shape and it was a very enjoyable round. If you aren't a particularly long hitter, you could still turn in a pretty good score.
Good course good find
Everything played well with the exception of two things..
Asked if there was a beverage cart and was told "yes" but did not see it the entire round only to discover it parked in front after we finished our 85 degree round.
Obviously they cant enforce repairing ball marks throughout the entire day so I took it upon myself to take care of a handful every green. They ran pretty true, decently quick and consistent the entire round. Great job!
Other than that, great track. Never had a beer in the bar so not sure what its made of.
This course has a nice variety
Some short holes but you have to be careful with your tee shot. I recommend this track.
Terrible
Not well maintained. Greens were poor, fairways were beat up, and the rough hadn't been cut in serveral days; being a Saturday you'd assume a mostly fresh cut. Half of the holes didn't have have working ball washers, they were there but many were busted. Several holes had missing signs (didn't always know for sure if we were playing the correct hole). Often confusing as to which way to the next hole, lack of direction in addition with most missing or having busted signage. There were a ridiculous amount dead trees and downed tree branches. On several holes there was sewage that washed onto the course during some flooding and it didn't appear to be the first time. Actually I mentioned something about the smell to another group of golfers and they acted as though it was normal. I personally plan to never return
Average course with great potential
Great layout but could use more maintenence in traps and around the greens.
Great outing with son...
Always fun to play a Robert Trent Jones course. The fairways were in excellent shape and the greens were fast!
Nice place to play
First time at Hilldale and enjoyed the round. Play was a bit slow due to a 4-some a couple ahead of us, but ranger kept us informed that they were trying to speed them up. Really nice greens, putts rolled true. Will be back to play again.
Hilldale g c
Excellent course great management many interesting and challenging holes great greens great shape
Enjoyable Course
We're seniors so we played from the silver tees which were perfect for us. We're good players, but don't hit the ball as far as we did in the good young days. The course has lots of holes where you have to hit over a creek to reach the green. The conditions were excellent and we especially liked the premium GPS system.
Tight Fairways, Fast Greens
Played here on a Hot and Windy Saturday afternoon. Pace of play was decent until we caught up to a really slow foursome. Looked like one guy specifically was dragging the entire group to a slow pace. Front 9 = 2 hours , back 9 = 3 hours.
Fairways at Hilldale are very tight. The widest fairway is #1 and it only gets tighter from there out. Specifically #18 is maybe the tightest fairway on the course or the tightest fairway in the area. Greens are smallish in size, however roll true and fast. Its kinda what this course is known for.
The value is good here after Noon time, however just be prepared to play some target golf. You cant get away with bombing it sideways here as there is not a lot of fairway to work with.
Nice course
Course was in relatively good shape. Challenging but not overly difficult.
