Bad Ranger
The Ranger working that day had no idea how to monitor nor manage pace of play. Made the experience unenjoyable.
Good Course - spring conditions?
I really want to like this course but was frustrated by the greens. Maybe timing (early season) but they were all so hard they would not hold even some well struck lob wedges. At least 5 well played shots below the hole that raced off the back of the green. I will give it another chance as it is April. I love the course design - lots of well thought out holes and ample challenge.
Good Value and course
Other than pace of play for March golf all was good. Course was in better than average shape and $16 golfnow hotdeal can’t go wrong
Pace of play can be an issue here March or August
too slow to play.
Need to control the pace of play. Some players seemed to
come for field practicing so it was too slow to keep up our normal play. I think marshal must patrol the field more often n try to help most of players keep smooth pace of play. Thanks
We enjoy weather and early season as this year,
we hope replay, thanks
Excellent course to challenge your skills.
Hilldale promotes its greens as the best in the Chicagoland area. I agree it's among the best. However, if you're looking to shoot a good score, you better drive the ball accurately. If you miss the fairway, chances are you won't make the green in two because the rough is usually thick enough to present problems. Keep in mind that I'm speaking as a senior golfer with a twelve handicap. You strong, young bucks may have the strength to overcome the rough.
I've played this course many times and I rarely have any complaints about the condition of the greens, the fairways or the sand traps. I recently played in November and the course was in excellent shape for this time of year. If you want to treat yourself to a round of golf on a challenging, fun course, play Hilldale.
Great course
Lot of water and challenging greens. Limited staff but very friendly!
Water
Some of ball wash were empty, no water, these should be mainteined. Some drinking water tank were empty. If these were maintained, this course could be a great golf course.
First time play was great.
Staff was nice. Clean cart and nice course. The pathway was a bit old and bumpy. No beer cart ever stopped by. :(
For the right price
Haven't played here in years since I've considered it unfairly penal. Well, it is quite tough and penal, but it's worth a shot if you get a price. It's a good challenge for those that can handle it. If you're a hack, stay away.
The course is excellent to play .
Played with my friend's couple nights were satisfied with course conditions n staff services. All is good.
Recommend others course to play.
RTJ lost
The layout of this course is absolutely beautiful, but the greens are so hard, you cannot go at the pin. With well protected greens in front, this course is not fair! This is a Robert Trent Jones Sr. course, and should be kept in playable conditions. Probably a great course to play in May, but not in the late summer
Pleasant Afternoon at Hilldale
Played with friends. Had a very nice day. Course was in pretty good shape. The tee boxes were somewhat hard but the course overall was good. Pace of play was excellent.
Concrete Bunkers & Slow Play
This course had deteriorated over the years. I quit playing here a couple of years ago because of slow play and mediocre conditions and had to come back to remember why. We had a 2:00 tee time but arrived about 20 min early. A foursome had just teed off and we checked in to see if we could get out a little before our tee time. The starter said we had another foursome ahead of us but that we could go after them. I looked around and saw no other carts or golfers in the area, so I asked if they were around and he replied "yes." After about 15 minutes of putting I looked to see if the foursome had teed off. No foursome. About 2 minutes later a twosome show up and tee off right away. We drive up to this starter and ask if the two guys who just teed off were the "foursome" he was waiting for. He said that they were but the other two didn't show up, leaving me with two questions: 1. If the other two didn't show up, why did you tell me the foursome had arrived when I asked earlier and 2., why'd you make us wait and extra 25 minutes (and NOT pair us up?). This starter was more interested in reading his novel than doing his job, but I digress. Moving on, the front 9 took about 2 hrs ten min. Not bad except the rock hard bunkers that were mostly unplayable. Then came the back nine which was dreadful. We ended up calling it quits after taking 2.5 hrs to play 6 holes. RE DIC U LOUS. Fortunately I'm surrounded by awesome courses and will choose to take my money elsewhere and I suggest you do the same.
Great Park District Course
The course was in great condition. The value was fantastic. Not too many places you can get 18 holes for $20 including the cart.
