Lakemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course

About
Stone Mountain Golf Club boasts 36 holes of championship golf that are a part of Stone Mountain Park, which is one of the Southeast's most popular attractions. The Lakemont Course winds around the beautiful Stone Mountain Lake through forests of Georgia pines and hardwoods. John LaFoy, a native of the state, designed the golf course. He incorporated his signature mounding and dramatic bunkering, which is enhanced even further by the wildly undulating terrain. The lake is more prominent on the front nine where water comes into play on six holes. The back nine still features water on four holes, but there are more rocky outcroppings, providing different but equally stunning scenery. Stunning mountain views can be enjoyed from every hole and golfers will also be able to glimpse the famous Confederate memorial carving featuring Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson.

Great course
Played Lakemont with dad, uncle, and bro. Had a great time. Very few golfers being a Tuesday and the hot deal really got the price down. With a lake and mountain it’s one of the prettiest courses for the money.
Course maintenence needed.
The standards of course conditions have dropped. Greens have several bare spots.
Terrible
This course is TERRIBLE!! Fairways were un manicured, greens were spotty, tee boxes un mowed. And they charged over $70!! Staff was INCREDIBLE!! Great People! Course though, HORRIBLE
Not a good course and definitely not worth what I paid.
Nice Golf Course
I really enjoyed the course but some of the greens where a little spotty but playable great course
NOT Reaort Golf - Goat track
SO disappointed in Stone Mountain golf course. Both stonemont and lakemont greens are atrocious. Most of what is green is mold and weeds. Dozens to 100s of ball marks on every green, large sand patches, incredibly I consistent with some being like shag carpet and others being more dirt and mold than grass.
They should be charging 1/2 the current fees for their “better” course (lakemont) and the management company desperately needs to redo these greens. Run down public courses in metro atlanta, some a few miles away, make this course look sad. Won’t go back, recommend no one does.
Finally!
I've been waiting to play this course because I wanted to make sure that my swing would be good enough for the cost of the round. Now a 13-handicapper, I decided to take the plunge.
The course layout and design were challenging but not difficult, with the focus being on course management. I started the round with a driver for two holes and quickly realized that I would need to be mindful off the tee to give me a good approach shot.
The greens...let's call them summer greens in Georgia. I've played enough rounds to know that during the summer the greens are tougher to maintiain due to the heat. That was the case here. Not enough where I didn't enjoy the round but enough to where I want to play it again in the Fall or Spring to give it a fair assessment.
Overall 7/10. Would play again (especially now that have an annual park pass for Stone Mountain. To visit the course its an additional $20 per visit unless you buy the annual pass for $40 bucks. Then unlimited visits.
Stone mtn present
Been a long time since I last played here(well over 5 yrs). Always a challenging layout but very scenic course on Lakemont and staff was friendly. But that’s where the positives end. $20 parking fee should not exist and back then it used to be comped. Also guy at gate would not take our $20 bill because it had a tear in it. Greens and fairways not really taken care of. Greens were actually a mess. No cart person on a full hot Saturday.
Great design/lay out - but very poor conditions of greens and tees.
Seen much better
The entire course seems like it has taken a beating. Been much better than this. For the price seems like you could do much better.
Good course but could be better
Decent course. Staff was excellent, friendly and very helpful. They do have a driving range and chipping green but you have to get your balls at the clubhouse. The greens were un-manicured. For the price I feel like improvements could be made to make them better.
Much Potential. Looks like they are trying.
Lakemont has the views and the layout to be a great course. It once was.
Starting from the tees, they are wildly inconsistant, as is much of the course. Some are perfectly passable or good, but some are just awful. There is a mix of everything in between.
Greens are the same as the tees. Though I can't think of more than a few that I would say are perfectly passable. The majority are rough, with lots of unusable space and some where the horrible spots are smack in the middle.
Fairways/rough are nice and the bunkers for the most part have sand. There seem to be a few that are pretty barren. I personally did not feel like I got a bad break due to conditions between the tee and green.
I won't comment on staff unless someone was exceptionally rude or helpful. I have been here three times in three weeks and have seen mostly different faces.
Pace of play is fine. There can be some jams but even then it moves well. Played a Friday 3:45 round in 4 hours, which for most Atlanta area public courses is not awful. Have been a few times the past month and it has been pretty much the same each time.
I think we have been around 47 or something for the round. Apparently Stonemont is 37ish? Stonemont under 40 is a great play as of this past week. I would not play Lakemont again in this current state for over $40 on a weekday afternoon.
Good layout, views, value, some greens a little rough
As always a pretty and peaceful course. And fair value for what you get and versus other public courses around ATL.
Not overly crowded.
Pro shop guys were friendly.
Some of the greens were a little rough - in terms of jenky patches of grass and a few with slick parches. Same review for a few of the tee boxes. Fairways were good.
Greens are terrible
I have played both Stone Mountain courses for years and have seen them go from great to bad and back to good conditions. Currently the greens are in terrible condition. The fairways are ok but not as good as in the past.
The only reason I will play them now are the hot deals.
Fantastic layout/design, very poor conditions of tees and greens
Fantastic layout/design, very poor conditions of tees and greens
Château Élan Stay & Play Golf Package

How are the greens? I am planning a trip to ATL and saw this course but I am seeing mixed reviews.
