Stone Mountain Golf Club sits at the base of one of the Southeast's most popular attractions, Stone Mountain. The club offers two 18-hole courses, Lakemont and Stonemont. The Stonemont Course is the club's original layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones. The gentle hills surrounding the mountain provide the golf course with rolling fairways and greens. The contours are subtle, but they can be deceiving. The classic but tricky layout requires careful strategy and course management in addition to accuracy. The course is routed around the mountain and its accompanying lake, weaving through dense forests of Georgia pine. The layout features narrow fairways, but one of the most challenging features are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout. Since opening in 1969, Stone Mountain's Stonemont Course has hosted numerous events, both local and national.

Great Course with amazing views of the mountain

Great course. Had a little bit of rough spots on the greens but for the price you can not beat it.

Pretty, slow and dull

There is no doubt that Stonemont has a breathtaking view of Stone Mountain across a picturesque lake, but the course itself is rather tedious. The first problem was the pace at 5 hours and 15 minutes to complete 18. The staff was incredibly friendly including starter with a great pro shop. Once on the course, it is crowded and moves slowly. Much of the first nine are back and forth next to one another with little interest. The greens have a lot of movement and are a real test of putting. The on-course bathroom was locked so it would appear the only close bathroom was at the driving range on the turn. The final straw that would keep me from returning is the $15.00 charge to get into Stone Mountain. On top of the green fee makes this a poor value for total cost vs pace of play and conditions.

Not worthful to go

There is an additional charge of $15 for parking fee need to pay.

The club staff in office was not friendly and not will to assist for solving the problem.

I will never go back and play in there.

Nice but challenging

I've been playing this course for a long time. Stonemont has always been very challenging and deserving of the 134 slope rating.

I recommend this course to golfers who want a awesome challenge with beautiful scenery.

Great value

I always find the staff to be very accommodating. From the club house, restaurant, rangers, starters, the snack cart / you'll love it. Great range as well. I actually bought an annual pass and buy hot deals as often as possible.

Thanksgiving Fun

My three sons and I enjoyed playing the Stonemont course the day before Thanksgiving and the course was in excellent condition. It was a great place for group pictures as well with the autumn colors and Stone Mountain in the background.

Thanks,

Doug

Great views and course

From the time you step out of your car you will be mind blown. You can immediately see stone mountain next to the lake. The putting green is right next to the lake and mountain. The clubhouse is spectacular with bushes outside of the clubhouse saying stone mountain. The staff was friendly and dining on the lake is a good idea. The day I played here it was like 40 degrees with wind chill. It is quite a long haul to the driving range and first tee. The driving range is pretty short.( considering the guy next to me was putting on top of the people on 9). One is a long par 4 with a small ungelated fairway. 3 is a good hole par 5. The 5 th is good with an absoutley crazy green. 8th is a short uphill par 3. 9 is a crazy downhill par 4 with side hill lies. 10 is a par three with water on left. 12 is a short par 4 with a tree in the middle of the fairway. 14 was a fun hole I liked 16 with a great view of the mountain and I loved the par 5 18th hole just stay left right is death. I shot 37 on the back so I was preatty happy with 45 degree weather. Overall this is a nice course.

The course is in great shape

Pleasantly surprised by the course conditions. Stonemont has always been a layout I love very challenging but the condition in recent times left me with no desire to play it. The course is in great shape right now

One of my favorite courses

Stonemount is a great course... Challenging, greens kept in really good shape, excellent friendly staff, and always presents a good challenge. Practice facilities are very nice as well and clubhouse has a great view of Stone Mountain... Pace of play is sometimes slow but it is a great value.. I would definitely recommend playing this course.

Walked

Playing long for me....

This is a beautiful, classic tree-lined course. Not tricked up, just laid into some beautiful rolling terrain. Yardage as played was just under 6,200 but seemed to play much longer. There are plenty of uphill tee and approach shots, that were very challenging. Seemed like I was hitting 165-175 approaches into every green. The rough was penal, so if you hit it there, it was not going to roll very far. Fairways were very nice, and greens were nicely contoured and rolled at a nice pace. I think next time moving up on the tee box would make it a more enjoyable round, I look forward to playing there again,

Great layout

Solid layout, very tight and tricky pin placements. Same color flags and no pin placement map made it difficult to hit approach shots with confidence. Some of the greens were burned or fungused out, but the majority of the course was solid.

great layout, beautiful surroundings, grainy, poorly-countered greens

i got a great golf.now rate and played in picture-perfect weather - teed off at 11:50 and was through with 18 by 2:15 - very courteous golfers that let me play thru immediately as a single - the course is laid out amongst tree-lined hills and could be a championship layout with a bit of fairway contouring - well-maintained tee boxes with lush, narrow fairways - challenging par 4's from the white tees nearing 400 yards each - i would play the course frequently if they would re-do the greens both to install a modern and more puttable strain of grass and to eliminate some extreme slopes that make 2 puuts virtually ompossible from certain angles - overall, a reaaly enjpyable round of golf with many great photo opps - will play again

Poor

Course was very bad. Greens were spotted and patchy. Cart lady was only there in the front nine. No water jugs. Fairways were dry and yellow in spots.

This course has seen better days.

1. Friendly staff

2. Pace of play was really good, only saw a couple people playing.

3. Fairways were pretty good and the rough was super forgiving.

4. Tee boxes were somewhat nice, it could do without a few of the dips that cause you not to be able to play your ball in certain areas of the tee box.

5. Loved the course

6. Greens are HORRIBLE!!! Well that day at least, hopefully they can fix them. They seem to be dying or have some sort of parisite eating the grass away.

7. Shot an 81 and really can complain to much.

8. Have fun playing there hopefully they would have fixed the greens by then.

Please shave the roughs

This course could use a nice shave down to the roughs. I hit numerous shots that were barely off the fairway that were either lost or took a long time to find in the rough. Also, the $15 entry fee needs to be remedied. Club washers, don't expect a tip, because Stone Mountain just took my lunch money for the next couple of days. At least caution against this, so that golfers are not ripped off. I didn't even hike the mountain. The cart girl also made her final round at 2 pm. This is a liability considering there isn't any water out there and the sweltering Georgia heat can cause a stroke. The lay out is nice, but the goat track of a rough negated the scenic views. Stone Mountain needs to step up and maintain the course better as it has potential. The bar is also nice.

Rough is Terrible

I have played stone mountain a couple times. Overall, I enjoy the layout of both Lakemont and Stonemont.

I played Stonemont yesterday and the rough was atrocious. You could not find your ball unless you were standing on top of it. We had several shots that landed in the fairway and rolled into the rough and disappeared. They need to fix this issue. The rough was on average 8 inches or longer in some spots and was extremely dense.

Greens were in good shape but seemed to be very slow. Fairways were pretty good overall.

Parking is now $15 and the course no longer validates for parking.

One other complaint is that we had a 3:00 tee time and the cart girl was already making her last call. That seemed a little early especially for the summertime when it doesn't get dark until after 8pm.

Overall it was a little bit of a disappointment as compared to previous outings at the course. It was $30 to play which seemed pretty fair but the parking fee and terrible rough left a bad taste.

The rough was too rough!

Loved everything about the course!!!!.....EXCEPT.......the rough was so deep that I could not find balls that were just 2-3 feet off the fairways. Most balls would stop and then just drop down and disappear. I loved the challenge, but maybe make just deep enough that your ball might still show.
