Stonemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course
About
Stone Mountain Golf Club sits at the base of one of the Southeast's most popular attractions, Stone Mountain. The club offers two 18-hole courses, Lakemont and Stonemont. The Stonemont Course is the club's original layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones. The gentle hills surrounding the mountain provide the golf course with rolling fairways and greens. The contours are subtle, but they can be deceiving. The classic but tricky layout requires careful strategy and course management in addition to accuracy. The course is routed around the mountain and its accompanying lake, weaving through dense forests of Georgia pine. The layout features narrow fairways, but one of the most challenging features are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout. Since opening in 1969, Stone Mountain's Stonemont Course has hosted numerous events, both local and national.

Greens soft and slow, as was pace of play
Love this course typically (except 9th hole which is nearly unplayable...please redesign soon!). Realizing it is and has been hot, I played another course with Bermuda greens Thursday that were fast and perfect. Stonemonts bent greens are really awful comparatively. Time for a redo.
Most improved and getting better everyday
I've played at both Lakemont and Stonemont. 5 years ago, the course was fantastic, absolutely world class and well maintained and then it slowly declined. So much that, I took it off rotation.
Well, its Aug 04, 2016 and my second time at this course. I am happy to say, this course is bouncing back very nicely. The fairways are nice and firm. Grass is green, lush and carpet like. The greens are also improving. There is work to be done, but its getting there.
They've cut down a few trees to give the course more fun and dry it out more. This is a narrow course and they've kept the undergrowth to a minimum.. and you should be able to find that errant ball from a bad drive easily.
The course is getting better and better everyday.
I played here on a $10 Hot Deal. Can't beat that.
Stonemont is a great play!
My son and I have played Stonemont twice over the past two months. The course is in great shape and the greens are lush green with a great putting surface. The staff is nice and the playing time for a round is good at 4-4.5 hours. The views of Stone Mountain are fantastic! We'll definitely be back!
Solid course
Stonemont is a solid course. Not easy, but not extremely difficult. Still hate having to pay $15 to get into park. Should be reimbursed once you check in at clubhouse.
Under staffed
9th hole before we saw anyone.
95 out and thirsty.
Great Day!!!
Great day on the golf course the greens were in good condition and the fairways were beautiful Stone Mountain is the place to be.
The Rock rocks!
I play Stonemont at least once a week and the course is really improving for the best. The tree removal program has help rejuvenate the grass on the greens as well as the fairways. The small groundskeeping staff does a tremendous job working on two courses. Kelly & Jeremy are awesome in the pro shop. I walk the course and it's a wonderful peaceful place! Best value in Atlanta!!!
Stonemount, Stone Mountain
Played in the early morning so the heat wasnt too much of a factor. Speed of play was 3:45 we were a 3 some and played behind a 4 some. Course was in great condition, fairways were running well and the greens (with the exception of No.1) were all in great condition with very few pitch marks. The check in was quick and friendly, the starter was great he gave us a few tips and pointers on the different holes which proved to be a couple of shot savers. All in all a very good resort type of course that does make you think about club choice, on some of the holes it really pays to play safe and leave the driver in the bag. Loved the course, the staff and condition of the course all made for a great day out the added bonus of some stunning views of Stone Mountain was just the icing on the cake.
A GREAT COURSE IN HORRENDOUS CONDITION
I LOVE THE STONEMONT COURSE. HOWEVER, IN ITS CURRENT CONDITION IT IS UNPLAYABLE AND NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN FOR MAJOR MAINTENANCE. IT WAS LIKE PLAYING IN A SWAMP. MOREOVER, THE WEEKEND RATE PLUS 20.00 PARKING FOR THIS COURSE IN ITS CURRENT CONDITION IS UNACCEPTABLE..
I HAVE WRITTEN TO GOLFNOW.COM TO SEE IF WE COULD GET SOME SMALL CREDITT TOWARDS A FUTURE ROUND.
mountain course
Had a good time ..!ood pace of play
stonemont
beautiful course, challenging, fun. friendly staff. gorgeous views, well kept fairways.
A Bit Disappointing
It has been a while since I last played here. My primary disappointment with the course was that fairways were just about non-existent - no or very little grass and extremely muddy. We had 1/4" or so of rain the afternoon/day before we played - was told that it's because the course sits on top of granite. I remember the course as being much better but not this time.
Great for $20
Beautiful day and the course was in great winter conditions.
Challenging course
We had an early tee time and there was almost a 2 hour frost delay. It was very chilly to start but warmed up. We played from the Blue tees which are the 2nd from the back. It plays much longer than the scorecard reflects. The greens are also very tricky with lots of subtle break in them. It will challenge every aspect of your game.
One of the best to play in Atlanta area
The greens on the SM course are in great conditions, I really enjoyed playing the course.
Even when nature isn't cooperating..
The forecast was not favorable but an excellently groomed and maintained Stonemont course was more than up to the task. I have played this course my entire life and there's always a solid commitment to a premium experience.
Thanks again to all the hard working folks at the Rock.
Lilburn native.
This was my second time playing this course. The first time it was unbelievable! Loved it...The second time not so great. It recently rained and the course was extremely water logged. I hit numerous balls in the fairway only to walk up and not find my ball. I wish I was told about the condition prior to playing. I would have waited a few days to let the course dry out. Overall still a nice course would definitely recommend just watch the weather to know whether you are getting a good course for that day or not.
Great course, great value
One of my favorite courses around Atlanta - challenging course with beautiful scenery & modestly priced!
The prognosis is great!
We have not played Stonemont in a little over a year due to poor course conditions on the last outing. It is very obvious that much progress has been made in renovations...certainly on most if not all of the greens that were suffering badly a short time ago. Having lived in the metro Atlanta area for twenty plus years, both courses at Stone Mountain have always been some of my favorite tracks, so It has been with great dismay to witness the slow deterioration of many courses around the country especially those in my own backyard. I realize that it takes massive amounts of revenue to maintain a course in such a beautiful setting, so patience is indeed a virtue...we have high hopes for the golf courses here and will continue to support them in every way possible. Go play Stonemont today...you will be pleasantly surprised.
