Stonemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course
About
Stone Mountain Golf Club sits at the base of one of the Southeast's most popular attractions, Stone Mountain. The club offers two 18-hole courses, Lakemont and Stonemont. The Stonemont Course is the club's original layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones. The gentle hills surrounding the mountain provide the golf course with rolling fairways and greens. The contours are subtle, but they can be deceiving. The classic but tricky layout requires careful strategy and course management in addition to accuracy. The course is routed around the mountain and its accompanying lake, weaving through dense forests of Georgia pine. The layout features narrow fairways, but one of the most challenging features are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout. Since opening in 1969, Stone Mountain's Stonemont Course has hosted numerous events, both local and national.

Stonemont
Terrible greens all eaten up. Course in bad shape
Course upkeep especially greens. Very poor
Saturday golf day
Tha greens are in bad shape for the price of the course. Please don't waste your money. Who planted three pine trees in the middle of 12. Also cut your grass. The course is horrible with two many pine trees
Fun to be had at Stonemont
Recent review panned the course and was apprehensive, but our pairing was great and course conditions were better than expected. Heat made some spots on the greens unplayable on the front. The back was cut, rolled, and smooth and nice..Good mixture of holes.. good times. Unless it’s a hot deal the parking entrance fee ‘over prices’ the course.
Great course, but needs a little work
The greens are being reshaped and are a little worn. The tee boxes are not in great shape. The fairways are in excellent shape. Very challenging course. Overall worth the money!
Did not meet expectations
After reading reviews, I went to this course with high expectations. Unfortunately it didn't measure up. Greens.were in horrible shape. Huge tree fell on 1 of the holes we were playing. Friends of mine played the other course and recommended. We definitely played the wrong one.
Great after work course!
It was my first time playing after work at Stonemont. The course wasn't crowded, and the weather was perfect. I lost a ton of balls, but it the experience was worth it! Saw deer on the 17th hole ... simply lovely.
Great course but greens were poor on the day we played
First time I played here, course is great, weather was great and we all had a good time. Only criticism was the greens were not good enough and the the cart girl never showed up!
Great Outing!
An out of town friend and I played Stonemont in 4:35 on Saturday morning in mid-June. Bent grass greens were in great shape. Staff friendliness and food service made it an enjoyable day. While Lakemont is more visually attractive, the view of the Big Rock is very spectacular on some holes
Wonderful Setting
I've always loved the layout of the RTJ Stonemont course at St Mt. (the Lakemont, not so much) I am happy to report that they have spent some money to improve the conditions of the course - fairways and greens especially. Are they pristine? No, but being familiar w the course, I can say that have really improved
Beautiful Course!
Stone Mountain is a beautiful golf course. It is in great shape...the bent grass greens roll very true. The GolfNow rate makes playing this course very affordable!
Nice course, but ...
It should be free to park! $15 park access on top of the green fees, makes it unreasonable. The pace was ok, on the front 9, the back 9 was very slow. Total playing time 5hrs 20 min, its way to long. Thus, I am giving this course an average rating. It is good to play in it, at least once.
Many interesting and beautiful holes but it is hilly.
Country Club quality course and facility. Excellent value for a resort type course.
The course is very beautiful
You may see the stone mountain and the lake from the course.
not happy about parking but the course was great
we really enjoyed the course but were not happy about having to pay $15 to enter the park.
Find somewhere better
I had high expectations for both of these courses. Each was awful. The sand bases of the greens and tees were consistently exposed. It was a beautiful layout wasted. The clubhouse is nice and the food is actually very good, but Marriott has not exactly lent a helping hand to the upkeep of the courses. The starters are extremely friendly but did not do a great job of tee time management which resulted in backups. It's also a challenging layout requiring accurate tee shots so there are high handicappers searching for balls non-stop. Do not waste your time.
No Grass on Stone Mountain
Very disappointed with the conditions......Muddy from tee to green with very little grass. I realize it rained the week prior but there was very little evidence of any turf being there beforehand. Staff was friendly enough but offered no reasoning for the poor condition or any warning as to what the course was like. The layout was not at all what was expected based on other reviews or pictures we had seen........although the back nine was a lot better than the front nine which seemed like it was jammed into land that was 10 acres too small. The make-shift half-way house at the turn was a bit scary but the special deal on beers (4 for $20 or 6 for $20....no kidding) was what might have made the back nine seem like it was better. We had an afternoon round scheduled and immediately canceled it after our morning experience. Maybe this place is decent in the summer when things dry out but I can't imagine anyone lining up to play this track on a regular basis.
Cart Path Only
A greeting from the starter asking me why I haven't played the course before; due to being from the Atlanta area. I thought I was in for a treat, a short ride down the first fairway, although a nice guy, quickly realize, Stone Mountain maybe in a financial crisis. Maybe a little spoil from my week of resort golf having just left Amelia Island the last few days. I pressed on and realize that the super may have made a bad decision by allowing 90 degrees play. Course hadn't dried out and we had to play lift clean and place all day. I played with some out of towners and felt sorry for them that they paid $140.00; plus that $15 entry fee(really). Even with the GolfNow rate I received, plus the entry fee, it was not worth the experience of resort style golf. Being a true southerner, the next day, I took our guest to a less expensive and more worthy place to show Atlanta has a resort style golfing experience that we all was looking for. Maybe in years past, Stonemountain may have been, but for the money they are charging, my suggestion would be to stay clear of this one. Greens are fair, fairways are bare in most places and if you are playing the Stone side, only a few pic worthy of Stone Mountain.
Don't bother
Played 3 holes today and gave up. The course is completely saturated and needs weeks to dry out. Every shot requires a drop (assuming your ball is plugged and lost in the muck). Greens were aerated about 2 weeks ago and haven't recovered yet either. They really should close the course and let it rest until it dries out, but then again it's all about making money.
Aerification Alert
On the golf now website the course was not showing (A!) for Aerification Alert.. The staff at check in didn't inform me that the greens had been punched.. had the website shown this or Staff stated this at check in I would not have played the course.
Wait
The greens were recently punched and the courses was extremely wet. I suggest waiting a few week before you play either. Ourse.
