Stonemont at Stone Mountain Golf Course
About
Stone Mountain Golf Club sits at the base of one of the Southeast's most popular attractions, Stone Mountain. The club offers two 18-hole courses, Lakemont and Stonemont. The Stonemont Course is the club's original layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones. The gentle hills surrounding the mountain provide the golf course with rolling fairways and greens. The contours are subtle, but they can be deceiving. The classic but tricky layout requires careful strategy and course management in addition to accuracy. The course is routed around the mountain and its accompanying lake, weaving through dense forests of Georgia pine. The layout features narrow fairways, but one of the most challenging features are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout. Since opening in 1969, Stone Mountain's Stonemont Course has hosted numerous events, both local and national.

Only Play With a Discount
Stonemont is in acceptable, but not quite good condition for February. The fairway was fairly clean and in most locations only wet conditions prevented playing the ball down. The rough had not been cleared on leaf litter. I would rate the greens as near poor for slow speed, bare spots and high levels of inconsistency. The layout makes this a good track for a change of pace.
The practice facilities remain less than average. The practice green near the #1 tee is almost unusable and bears no resemblance to the course greens. The practice tee is limited to mats at this time of year. I do not object to the mats, but there is insufficient space to walk a safe and respectful distance behind those using the tee. I do object to the restricted flight balls.
The staff did not manage the pace of play or starting schedule. We were told that there could be a short frost delay and then were ask to start early. When we arrived at the first tee 10 minutes before our scheduled time, there was no starter, the fairway was occupied, and there was group who had missed their scheduled time expecting to started in front of us.
Challengning but Fair
Challenging but fair test of your golf game. Lots of par 4s that test your ability to hit good "second shots". Fairways are treelined but not "too tight". Greens were in excellent shape (particularly for January).
The course in challenging from the Blue Tees and Par 3's
The pace of play was very good. Not a fan of hole #2 and a lot of narrow fairways. I could see this being a great golf course during the early summer months. Enjoyable day !!!!!!!!
For "Winter" Golf....Not A Bad Play!
I enjoyed my round at the Stone Mountain Stonemont Course. The greens were in pretty good shape; tricky sometimes. The fairways are without color as is expected this time of year, but aside from that, it was a great play. Not too many folks out, so I actually had a pretty good pace going. I would play it again anytimg.
Very Challenging and long.
Shot placement off the T is needed here at Stonemount.
If you can't work the ball off the T box you will need to just get to the dog leg and shoot again a shot that will position your ball for the approach. Very easy for a stray drive to cost you a stroke penalty being that the fairways are lined with Lateral water hazards(red stakes). Very narrow fairways and the greens are small as well.
This course is a great test of Golf. Play smart and your score will be fine. If you want to play a Trent Jones Sr course play this one and don't be a chicken and make the reservation. Very neat course layout with tall trees and some great views.
nice view with challengeable course
Nice view with challengeable course. Green condition was not a excellent one.
Visually challenging, interesting
Signage to course could be better, course is interesting, first time play made it play more difficult than it might be as landing areas are not readily visible.
Played early, as a single. Beautiful course, quiet, and relaxing.
Challenging course, lots of trees and water on the front 9. Back nine mostly trees and a bit narrower than the front. Some interesting holes, which I would play differently the second time. Not many flat lies, lots of rolling hills. Fun day and would definitely play again. On a busy day I would expect play to be slow as there are lots of opportunities to lose balls in the trees and water.
One of the Best you'll find - old school style
Stonemont (not Lakemont) is one of the best "driving" golf courses you'll find in metro Atlanta, especially from the back tees. You have to be in complete control of your tee ball to score on this course. The course has been in existence since late 60s or early 70s so the trees left by the designer are big and mature. This means tree lined fairways - yup - tree lined fairways, and to me this is why you want to play here; Straight long par4 holes that require you to hit controllable drives that find the fairway!!! A great test of golf.
Now, if you don't find the fairway, for the most part, your ball will have to be played around trees in order to find the green, or you'll have to take your medicine and punch out. But if you find all 14 fairways, your job is not over - the greens are fast and pretty undulating. You have to be on your toes to get down in two if you're GIR, and good luck with birdies here, because scoring requires fantastic iron shots!
Overall, this course is one of my favorites!!!
Lilburn Hacker
Played Stonement and the course was in excellent shape. Good pace of play. Friendly staff and excellent pro shop. Had not played the course in about 5 years. My mistake. We will be back soon.
Wonderful layout
I really enjoy playing Stonemont. You always have to know where stone mountain is. It will effect the break on your putt.
Hilly, narrow fareways, and super fast greens
Hilly, narrow fareways make driving a challenge, with many trees lining both sides of the fareways. The greens were difficult to read and very fast. Due to a very slow foursome ahead, play was extremely slow (waitying on every hole). Course management, by a marshal, was lacking
Super Nice!
This was a really nice course for the price!! I've paid more on courses not quit as nice as this one!! This was a beautiful and well kept course. Very friendly staff. Two different courses: Stonemont and Lakemont. I played Stonemont, next time I'll play Lakemont which I know is just as nice!!
great course. fast greens. nice people. tough to score on.
I like this course a lot more than the Lakemont course. You don't get right up on Stone Mountain for the views like you do on the Lakemont course. The day we played they had the club championship and they had the greens rolling super fast. I would say at least 11 on the stimp. Course was in great condition, staff was great. Fair prices. Only drawback was we got behind a group of asian men that played real slow and the round took an extra hour. I didn't care. It was such a nice day to be outside. We don't get many great weather golfing days like that here in Ga.
Great views. some good risk reward holes.
The course has several holes on the front that wander along the lake with great views of Stone Mountain and the Generals carved into the side of the mountain. the course offers reachable par 5's. Well placed shots on doglegs offer short approaches to greens. The greens have a lot of break usually the break is toward Stone Mountain even when it looks otherwise.
Lakemont - Stay away
I usually play the Stonemont course and enjoy it greatly. However, I decided to try the Lakemont course and was extrememly disapointed. The greens are just unplayable. Worst greens I have experienced in Georgia.
Great course but very narrow..
One of the best courses around. It's always difficult because of length and it is very narrow. They keep it in good condition too.
Lakemont is always fun and challenging
We always have fun & are challenged playing either of the Stone Mountain courses (Stonemont or Lakemont). Keep up the great service
Great course
Challenging from any of the Men's tees. Good value, too.
