Stone Mountain Golf Club sits at the base of one of the Southeast's most popular attractions, Stone Mountain. The club offers two 18-hole courses, Lakemont and Stonemont. The Stonemont Course is the club's original layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones. The gentle hills surrounding the mountain provide the golf course with rolling fairways and greens. The contours are subtle, but they can be deceiving. The classic but tricky layout requires careful strategy and course management in addition to accuracy. The course is routed around the mountain and its accompanying lake, weaving through dense forests of Georgia pine. The layout features narrow fairways, but one of the most challenging features are the numerous bunkers strategically placed throughout. Since opening in 1969, Stone Mountain's Stonemont Course has hosted numerous events, both local and national.

Robert Trent Jones requires all the shots

First time playing the Stonemont course in many years. The course is in good shape ; although damp in many areas, very playable. The real drawing feature of this course is to play a course designed by a master architect. Classic risk-reward shots that set up RTJ's philosophy of hard par, easy bogey. Practice up and head out to Stonemont.

Nice course. Narrow but very playable. Nice layout.

The pro shop is nicely stocked. Carts have coolers with ice for you beverages. Staff is very friendly. Only negative and this is NOT about the course is that it is located in a state park and they make you pay for park admission just to enter to play golf. This is totally unfair to have to pay $10 to enter the park to play on a privately owned "Marriott" course. This is NOT a knock on Marriott, but on the STATE Park. SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

the course had a great layout. scenery was great but the condition of the green was close to horrible. could not read the green what so ever. besides the green needing some attention, everything else was good.

Great Course and Great Value

Stonemont is an exceptionally designed golf course in its best condition in years. The rough has been mowed a little more closely to make the course more playable, and by design or act of God some trees have been removed. This course previously exceeded my capabilities, but with the new maintenance and changes it is a challenging but fair course

Stonemont

Course- fairways and rough were in great. Greens were very slow for and will have problems latter this summer. Tee boxes were very bad condition. $49 bucks we paid was great for 7:30 AM Saturday. Going rate is too much.

Good challenging course but slow play is a MAJOR issue

The management of this course must not realize how negative slow play is to the enjoyment of the round and how many more people would be interested in playing if they would keep groups moving at a reasonable pace (~4 hours). I have played these courses a number of times and the rangers seem to be uninterested in groups that are playing at a 5 hour + pace.
I played this round with a late afternoon tee time (3:00) and we had rain during much of the morning and early afternoon (seemed to keep a lot of people away). The first 12 holes went great....... then we caught up to 3 groups (with no one in front of them). The last 6 holes took 2 hours!! The ranger drove by a couple times and did nothing.
Stone Mountain has 2 nice golf courses, but pace of play is a serious problem. There are lots of golfing alternatives. Courses that keep people moving may lose a couple slow players but will more than make up for the extra rounds that 90% of their players will come back and play.

Course in very good shape; pace of play was faster than expected.

Stonemont is tougher than newer sister course Lakemont, so you likely get the better players---who play faster. Course was in very good shape due to much rain this Spring. Course COULD use a bit more variety with par fours (400 yards, slightly uphill, very light rough, tree-lined; and need more par fives)...for next upgrade. Greens don't putt true, but they're OK. Staff was pleasant and helpful.

A Great Test of Golf

We played on a Friday . . . The tee sheet was filled. The started decided it was best to move our tee time back 20 minutes because the group paired with would be slow. The pace was slow anyway since we were paired with an older couple.

The layout of the Stonemont course is superb and challenging. It is good test of a golfer skills. The par 4s are long except for the 269 yards par 4 #2. The par 5s are reachable depending on a well placed tee shots. The greens are large but make sure you hit the right level or you might be looking at a 3 putt.

Great challenging hilly course

The course plays longer than the stated distance because of the hills and valleys. But the setting is gorgeous. There are beautiful lakes and streams, blind shots, doglegs right and left. You will love playing this course.

This course will be in Great Condition once the Spring weather finally settles in.

Had a great time. Only compliant is that my friend and I were paired with an elderly couple that could not keep up with our playing pace. Our round turned into a 5 hour round.

The greens were in bad shape.

I know that the greens at Stone Mountain have just went under aeration and should not be in great shape. But, the aeration alert still should be present on Golfnow. It was so bad that a one foot putt was not a sure thing. The greens are about two or three weeks away from putting without your ball bouncing from its intended line.

Course Conditions are Poor

We were able to take advantage of a great GolfNow special to play this course, and we still paid too much. The fairways and tees have little if any grass and the greens are slow, bumpy, and inconsistent. The layout of the course if very interesting and would be fun to play if the conditions were better.

Waiting waiting waiting........

Thats all you will do at this course. We quit going here a couple years ago, and thought I would try it again. Ended up waiting on every tee box and every fairway. No ambasssador ever came around. Not worth it to us, so we will not be going back.

Only good if you get a discount!

It's an average course. Being that this was my first time playing in Atlanta, I had higher hopes that the course condition was going to be top notch. Green were really slow and inconsistent. Looking at them from first glance, you would have thought that they would run fast but nope. Fairway and tee box were fine. Clubhouse served good food. Didn't like the idea of paying additional $10 to enter the park. Good thing our family had planned additional activities at the park, otherwise just a waste of money. Don't know how the golf course maintains business like that. I don't know if i'll play there again in the future.

The quality of the course has gone down

1. Five men group allowed to play, and of course, in front of me.
2. Young twosome also in front, slowed play, no idea of "Golf Etiquete"
3. The overall condiction of the fairway was not the best, "3 out of 10".
4. So disapponted (play only 12 holes in over 3 1?2 hours) that I left before it got too dark.
SERIOUSLY THINKING ABOUT PLAYING THERE EVER AGAIN OR EVEN USE GOLF NOW IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
