Nestled in the foothills of the north Georgia mountains, Sugar Hill Golf Club tumbles across elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. The course is artfully laid across the rolling hills, weaving through stands of mature trees, to provide it with the maximum level of challenge and the best views. The natural contours played a role in determining the placement of the bunkers around the greens and fairways as well as shaping the sharp doglegs. As if the golf course didn't already have enough challenges, there are also deep grass canyons and water hazards to contend with. The par-4 fifth and the par-3 12th are memorable water holes, both featuring large lakes that lurk in front of the greens. Sugar Hill G.C. is known as one of the toughest golf courses in the area.

Good value near Suwanee

This was my 2nd time to play Sugar Hill. My first time to play was Monday. Monday went off at 9:40 am., and we were always ahead on pace of play. Very nice to not wait. The carts have GPS and let you know how you are doing on pace of play.

The people were great both days. Starters, golf shop personnel, and grill person. Kind and very helpful.

Friday went off at 9:20 am. Was with a twosome behind some foursomes. Pace of play was as bad as 13 minutes behind. The group in front of us had a guy who struggled and looked for a ball on most holes. Nice guys, bad golf day.

I would give Sugar Hill an overall 3.5 stars. I can get a deal 18 holes of golf with cart included for about $40. Sign me up. The course is challenging with many elevation changes. Nice fairways and greens. Need to be a longer hitter for a woman to clear so uphill carry (200 yd) from gold tees.

They need a combo tee rating with red & gold. Huge difference in rating/slope between red and gold. If you want a great value for your money, Sugar Hill is it! Just know Friday is more crowded, and Mon to Thur you can cruise through.

Course is in great condition for the most part. Greens were good and the Tee boxes in decent shape.

Challenging layout.

Very few straightaway fairways.

Not too much water, but enough to keep you challenged.

Great staff. Fun course.

It’s challenging because one of the hilliest in area. Great practice hitting balls above and below feet. Makes playing other courses easier after playing here. Lots of deer and a few cool snakes! - Barry D

Cart path only on dry hot day

Just as the title says, it was cart path only because it was too DRY. I’ve never heard of a course being car path only because of that. It also took us 5 hours to finish; maybe because of how hot it was, the course layout, and the cart path only rule.

The layout was quite poor in my opinion. There were several large gutters in the middle of the fairway and a couple tee boxes where someone is hitting opposite of you just right or left of the fairway

Hurry up!

My father and I played a round with a tee time at 8:10am. We were paired with two guys who had very little golf experience. They were great. They did not take too long. We had a foursome behind us who kept hitting right up on us looking like they were trying to play speed golf. Admittedly, there were others behind them, but it was cart path only and we finished the round in 3hrs and 51 minutes. Despite that, the Marshall came around telling us to hurry up. He was clueless and rude. I did mention this to the starter when we finished, and reminded them that all 4 of us paid to play as well, and were not playing slow. Annoying on an otherwise fun day.

Terrible Experience at Sugar Hill Golf Club

I recently had the misfortune of playing at Sugar Hill Golf Club, and it was one of the worst golf experiences I've ever had. First and foremost, the entire course is designed in a way that forces you to walk up and down steep hills and across vast terrains, as golf carts are inexplicably off limits everywhere. This made for an exhausting round, especially in the summer heat.

To make matters worse, the course itself is in dreadful condition. The grass is brown and patchy throughout, and the greens are terribly groomed. It was nearly impossible to get a good roll on the greens, and the overall appearance of the course was unkempt and neglected.

I would not recommend this golf course to anyone looking for an enjoyable round of golf. Save your time and money and play elsewhere.

The course needs to cut the greens. The course had previously punched the greens. Now they need to be cut.

Sugar hill

I’ll start with the rudest woman working the food area. So rude I didn’t bother to get a sandwich. Would also be smart to have some food ready. Greens once again in sub par shape. Can’t remember the last time I played here and got to play on good greens. Also had a slow group in front of us and nobody for at least 2 holes in front of them yet no one pushing them. Might be my last visit.
