About
Nestled in the foothills of the north Georgia mountains, Sugar Hill Golf Club tumbles across elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. The course is artfully laid across the rolling hills, weaving through stands of mature trees, to provide it with the maximum level of challenge and the best views. The natural contours played a role in determining the placement of the bunkers around the greens and fairways as well as shaping the sharp doglegs. As if the golf course didn't already have enough challenges, there are also deep grass canyons and water hazards to contend with. The par-4 fifth and the par-3 12th are memorable water holes, both featuring large lakes that lurk in front of the greens. Sugar Hill G.C. is known as one of the toughest golf courses in the area.

Weekday golf
Course is doing some maintenance of a few fairways, doesn’t have too much affect on your round. The green are in really solid shape. The staff does a great job running the course. It’s going to be really great during the summer, they really care about this course. The blue tees where playing a little bit further back then normal and made for a fair challenge on a few holes. Definitely recommend this course!

Lovely local muni
Greens are slow, but consistent and healthy. Layout is funky, tons of elevation, but fun. Plenty of par 4s and 5s with shortcuts for the bold. Never seen a beer cart but the lady inside is great. Love playing here.

Good for the money
This course is worth it for the cost, but staff is rude. Driving range is decent. Greens are fast, and very hilly. Overall would recommend to anyone for quick 9.

The greens are in awesome condition, especially for this time of year.

Ok with caveats
Didn’t know the Driving Range was closed, let golfers know ahead of time.
If possible let golfers know that it’s cart path only.
Water stations and directional signs would be helpful.

First Round in 2023
Wish I knew in advance two things:
1 - Range was closed
2- Cart Path Only
This a a very “hilly” course. Tee boxes were in decent shape, greens were slow. Let golfers know at the time of reservation the Range is closed and Cart Path only,
Marshal was present maintaining the place of play. Fairways were mixed some, green, some brown with mud. Noticed no yardage flags(markers at all.

Just not great golf
I used to enjoy this course when I didn’t know how much more enjoyable it is to play a decent course. The drink selection at the bar is okay, but the food options are basic. The bunkers are mud pits. Tee boxes are in good condition. There has been a backhoe on the second hole for over a year, if you hug the left side of the fairway, this construction equipment blocks your approach. The greens are trash, but incredibly fast for the poor conditions. Too many blind shots; you have to know this course to stay in play. Better amenities and taking care of the course itself would do this place well.

Beware of the yellow fountain water
No water anywhere on course and the lady behind the bar tried to charge us for a cup of ice. When we asked for tap water she referred us to the “filtered” water fountains located next to the pro shop. The water was yellowish brown. No other accommodations were made after staff was notified.
