About
Nestled in the foothills of the north Georgia mountains, Sugar Hill Golf Club tumbles across elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. The course is artfully laid across the rolling hills, weaving through stands of mature trees, to provide it with the maximum level of challenge and the best views. The natural contours played a role in determining the placement of the bunkers around the greens and fairways as well as shaping the sharp doglegs. As if the golf course didn't already have enough challenges, there are also deep grass canyons and water hazards to contend with. The par-4 fifth and the par-3 12th are memorable water holes, both featuring large lakes that lurk in front of the greens. Sugar Hill G.C. is known as one of the toughest golf courses in the area.

Greens poor
Tee to green is great. Geens no so much. Poor condition. Greenside bunkers are terrible. Very compact and with weeds growing out of the, Very few yardage markers.
Bumpy ride
Love this course with its mountainous layout. While the fairwarys look great, right now the greens are very bumpy and the traps are full of weeds and empty on sand. Cart girl did a great job. Small range with hard carpet mat, decent putting green. Friendly staff.

Sugar Hill is one of the cheaper options in the area, but you get what you pay for. It has a nice variety of holes and is a full par-72, but the conditions have been getting worse and worse. 90% of bunkers are unplayable - we typically just take a free drop if we end up in one.
Greens are not good, and the main reason for a lower rating. I’d probably say 2.5 stars out of 5. They have not bounced back from aeration, which doesn’t even appear to be recent. It’s impossible to get a true and consistent roll on any green. Best one is probably 13, but even then it’s not good. There is no point in reading any breaks as it’s like plinko bouncing around on the greens. We ended up basically just hitting the green and taking an automatic two-putt.
Tee boxes are inconsistent, many are pretty bare. Tee it up, even on the par 3’s to get a decent lie.
Driving range is mats-only and the mat is old and worn down. I’ve never been when the grass is open. It’s a steep downhill range, which is fun to watch but hard to get a grasp on accurate distances. Range balls are old and beaten up.
Staff is friendly and helpful, saw a beverage cart 3-4 times throughout our afternoon round. Cart girl was friendly and helpful, as was the girl behind the snack bar.
This was likely our last visit to Sugar Hill, as the overall condition has fallen off considerably, and there are plenty of alternatives in the area. You can go and hit a golf ball there, and you might even have a good time, but there has not been much effort taken in keeping the conditions at even a reasonable level.

Just ok
The fairways are very good but that’s it. The greens have been aerated over the past 3 weeks and are slow to respond so putting is not good. Sand traps haven’t been tended to for at least a couple years so you have to treat them as free drops. It’s a county course and they need to spend some money on it.

Rough greens
The course is tough especially from the Back tees. If you can’t consistently FLY the ball 220 don’t play the blue tees. The greens were very rough on Friday. They will come back.

Not Women Friendly
This course is definitely a “good old boy” course. Men are consistently given preferential treatment. And in fact the manager - Scott- has gone out of his way to be rude and nasty to women playing there. There are plenty of bad reviews about the course mentioning Scott’s and other staff members behavior, but the city does nothing about it.
This course is not in good shape. And no matter how cheap the greens fees are, it is not worth being treated badly. Avoid this course- especially women!

Hot Day
It was a hot and moderately humid day. Unfortunately the greens have recently been aerated and sanded. Putts couldn’t run true… very frustrating.

Greens were in awful condition. Not a single green rolled true.

Glad it’s cheaper
Greens are quite bumpy and bunkers are probably worst I’ve seen in a while. It’s relatively cheap which makes it worth your time if you’re looking to work on your swing but you’ll lose some strokes due to the conditions on the course. Staff was alright but are very sharp and don’t smile at all. WARNING... watch out on hole 9. Driving range balls fall all around as you finish the hole. Not nets to protect you. Wife was inches away from taking one to the head.
Again, glad it’s cheap to balance the course.

Greens were in terrible shape because of the sanding they just did. Sure would have been nice to know that before I booked the round. I might go back in a couple weeks to try it again

Worst greens ever!
Worst greens I’ve ever played on! Basically putting on sand! Definitely don’t recommend paying to play this golf course.
