About
Nestled in the foothills of the north Georgia mountains, Sugar Hill Golf Club tumbles across elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. The course is artfully laid across the rolling hills, weaving through stands of mature trees, to provide it with the maximum level of challenge and the best views. The natural contours played a role in determining the placement of the bunkers around the greens and fairways as well as shaping the sharp doglegs. As if the golf course didn't already have enough challenges, there are also deep grass canyons and water hazards to contend with. The par-4 fifth and the par-3 12th are memorable water holes, both featuring large lakes that lurk in front of the greens. Sugar Hill G.C. is known as one of the toughest golf courses in the area.

OK Course With Some Problems
Decided to play an afternoon round at Sugar Hill on a sunny afternoon. Staff at register was nice. However the starter had zero personality and seemed like he hated being there. He didn't take our ticket and waived us on without letting us know that play started on the back 9. Didn't smile or say a word. Needless to say, we played 4 holes on the front 9 before a group asked us where we started. We stated we started on #1 and they had a cow. We had no clue from either the guy in the shop or the starter that we were supposed to start on 10. Anyway, we went back to number 10 where play was agonizingly slow. No rangers in sight all day. Course was in ok condition except for the 'dirt' traps in fairways and around greens. If ball went into trap, we just dropped out of trap. No point hitting in a trap with ruts and dirt. Too many blind shots on this course. Group behind us hit into us twice . You think as much play as they get, they would have enough revenue to at least put some sand in the bunkers. Doubt that I'll return.

Great City Course
Lots of Hill, greens were in excellent shape, Traps were in awful condition. Fairways were in good shape, tee boxes in poor condition. No effort being made to remove tee fragments from tee boxes. Played on a Saturday and the course was packed, Don't understand why sand traps and tee boxes were like they were. Staff was great except for the lady at the restaurant/bar, could use a training course at Chik-Fil-A. Will be back.

Nice course
The course needs to improve the sand traps with sand and rakes. More signage out on the course would be goid

Always fun
Greens are true but slow. Fairways are nice, great elevations changes. Always good value fornthe money.

Decent value, in good shape
Very hilly with some aggravating blind shots. Greens in fairly good shape. Everything else is greening and growing and improving. Guys in shop and outside were friendly and not at all like some other reviews. Pace of play was just ok, 445 for 18 on a 75 degree Friday afternoon. Overall it's a good value. We're going back.

Not worth the money
Sand traps completely unmantainted, like concrete, almost all of them have water in them, not cool. Fairways & greens in good shape though. Hard to figure out where the next hole is in a couple of places. Some tee box locations are hard to get to. Driving range hits off a mat. You can't bring your own cooler, but they have coolers on their carts, so that was nice. In my opinion, just not worth the price, probably won't go back.

Rude pro, poor condition and terrible pace.
Had 3 to 4 groups on each hole, no Ranger insight.
irrigation system repairs and holes in the fairways, and a very rude golf professional makes for a very long day. Our twosome and threesome ended up on a Teebox at every hole so we joined. Fivesomes are not allowed but We thought it would improve pace of play for those behind us. The golf professional said he would suspend us if we didn’t break up our group which Was our first warning. He was right but handled it very badly. Yelling at five senior women was not appropriate and as customers we think he could use some Customer service training.

Ball retriever in bunker? Really?
When I pay almost $70 to play I don't expect I'll need my ball retriever to get a ball out of the lake in the sand trap. But I pulled three balls out of the trap because players ahead of me must not have had a ball retriever. All of the traps were in bad condition.

Getting Better
We were pleasantly surprised after playing last year on this course which was a disaster. Looks like they are investing back into the course and on their way to making it a nice course.
The problem though with a public course, is you have to play with folks who don't quite understand golf course etiquette. We had 1 group in front of us, that felt that you shouldn't have to hit the ball until the group ahead of them was off the course. Then, the group behind them had 6 players playing. There was no ranger insight for the whole day. We had to skip 3 holes to get ahead of these two idiots.
