The Reserve never disappoints
I love playing at the Reserve. The course conditions are always impeccable. That said, the North course's bunkers were hard/cracking and unraked. But since I managed to avoid them, it didn't affect my round.
Fun, Challenging and Affordable
Over the last few years, The Reserve North Course has become my go to local course. They dropped their prices which made a big difference as far as playing it more often.
The course itself is fun and challenging, the greens are generally in good shape and pace of play has even improved over the years.
The clubhouse and food is also very good, much better than most public courses on both accounts.
My only issue with these courses is how wet and soft they are, year round. In the winter it's almost unplayable, in the summer they like to keep everything green so the fairways and greens are soft, a lot of balls will actually plug in the fairway. I can live with it, but less water would be good.
Overall, this is one of the best public offerings within 20 miles of Portland, enjoy!
In good shape!
Played the North course on a gorgeous day. The first few greens were pocked up due to golfers not fixing their divots. But after that, the conditions and golfers' repair habits improved and the greens and entire course was delightful.
Nice course
It was a little wet from the rain previous days, nice layout and somewhat challenging. What I dislike was having to carry my bag downstairs and from the cart return back to the car since they don't allow driving the cart out to parking lots it's a long way not nice at all.
Nice course but spendy.
The course was nice but they sprayed blue die on the course and all of our clothes, gloves and balls had blue ink on them. Not ideal at all. They paired us with a single as well and refused to let the single have his own cart while they had 30 other carts sitting there. Very expensive and not worth the money unless you can get a cheap time at an off time of day. I will not be back here for a while.
Worth the visit
Nice course, and reasonable enough at GolfNow rates. Not the closest to town but worth the extra ten minutes.
The Reserve
Will definitely return the next time I'm in Portland
Worth the drive
It's a fun course. Reasonably challenging, especially off the tee. Big plus if you can shape the ball
Nothing special
Great faciliy with good greens and an average layout.Im an all season nor thwest golfer that gets around and I have never seen a golf course so behind on its cuts.Lost balls just off the fairways. They should be discounting and appoligizing.
So Many Golfs!!
I went expecting to play 36. Then couldn't quit and played 54!! I've played here many times and have to say that during the late spring and summer, it is one of of my favorites in the Portland area.
The Good:
Tee boxes are in excellent shape, as is the service (as always). The layout is quite varied and offers many different challenges. The layout itself is not extremely difficult, however the rough can be quite penal. It is thick and creates a sizable obstacle if you find yourself in it off the tee. In addition, the fairways are narrow, so you may find yourself in that thick rough often. IMO that is good because it may play a bit too easy if you're a straight AND long hitter. I find the course to be aesthetically pleasing for the most part. It utilizes the land quite well and doesn't seem as if the design was forced. It flows well.
The Ho-Hum:
Contrary to the last couple years this time of the season, the greens were not what I expected. Perhaps there was some damage from the vicious winter we had, but it seems as though they haven't healed very well. They weren't all that fast, and were a little choppy. To be utterly truthful, had I paid full price, I would have been much more disappointed in the greens than I was. There are other courses I play in the Portland area for a much lower cost that have greens in considerably better shape. In addition, this course drains terribly. So there are still some very soft areas in the middle of some fairways. Perhaps I am expecting too much or being unfair as it is still early in the season. It is just my observation but it would certainly NOT keep me from playing again tomorrow if I could.
All in all, I enjoy this course very much and cannot wait to play it again when the fairways are a little tighter and the greens a little truer.
Soggy Fairways
I was very excited to try this course out as I am from out of town. The amount of rain and how soggy the course was made it almost unplayable though. Multiple times I hit a ball that plugged in the fairway and never found it. The pace was extremely slow partly because of the lay out of the course. It had a short par 4 and 3 par 3's within 5 holes so it really bogged down. The rough was a little overgrown im assuming due to the amount of rain they had but it made it very difficult to locate or hit balls. Id like to play this course again in the summer to see how it really plays.
Winter Skews the rating
This is a course with major drainage issues. I lost 4 or 5 balls in the fairway and/or first cut. Then again, I found 10 or 12 balls in those same areas that were lost by others. This course does not hold up to the rain particularly well.
With that said, it is a pleasant layout with some nice risk/reward choices that would probably be a ton of fun in the summer but I think their summer cost is a bit much so am unlikely to play there.
Nicely designed course with challenges
The course is well maintained and the greens are very good, but not easy. Overall it is well designed, but you need to hit your ball to place it for the good 2nd and 3rd. Otherwise, there are several holes that could be challenging even for relatively short Par 4 holes. If you like to test your precision shots, this could be the right course. There are some hazards that will be challenging especially when you play there for the 1st time. I enjoyed it and the course is nice. I recommend although the price was higher than other courses around.
beware, the address
the address on the golfnow confirmation was the wrong address for the course. Google knows better. Almost made me miss my tee time though.
Totally agree. The lat/long coordinates sent me into a residential neighborhood in Beaverton about 10 miles from the actual course. I've forwarded a comment to that effect to GolfNow as well.
Awesome course
One of Portlands finest. 2 18's, that rotate private and public play.
Totally agree with the "winter skew" comment. We played the North course yesterday (12/21/2016) after all the snow melt, plus fog on the first three holes, plus mid-30 degree temperatures. In spite of all that, had a good time (got a great deal on GN).
I think the right strategy for weather like this is to aim for the fairway right next to the cart path, to minimize the amount of mud you half to walk through.
The greens were surprisingly fast given the conditions, and boy howdy are their undulations. There is a shared green on 8 and 17, with a gigantic swale to climb up and over. I don't recall any of the greens being close to flat.
