This is a challenging course and holes are different.
I was very disappointed that on a busy, sunny golf day in May the half way house was closed. Had to go all the way to the clubhouse bar on the turn. No staff was available to assist. We had to go find someone to help us. Not well managed from that aspect. I would expect better. This course has gone down hill over the last few years.
What Happened???
Orchard Valley is used to be nice... I used to play this course in a golf league and it was nice. The greens were nice and rolled true and tge tee boxes were clean. Now, tee boxes are shot, greens are in poor condition, bunkers are half mud or gravel, and mowers don't understand golf etiquette to stop tge mower while players are near... Not sure what happened to this nice course.
Pace of Play was unbearable
Really disappointed to see how overbooked the course is. They ran out of golf carts which is pretty unusual, and the pace was unbearable. There were no rangers out patrolling and the staff was pretty rude about any accommodations for the pace.. Course was not in the shape it usually is either. Most likely played my last round at orchard valley
Disappointing
From the chewed up tee boxes, to the rude employees Orchard Valley was a big disappointment. There are a lot of great golf courses you can play in the Chicago area. This claims to be one but is not.
Wonderful day and course
Course was in very good condition. Staff was terrific. Very nice and playable course with very good risk reward holes. Highly recommended.
Thanks for your review. We are delighted our staff and course met all your expectations. Hope to see you again soon!
Upgrade from previous years reviews
OV is in very nice shape given the amount of play it receives. Early season greens are rolling very smoothly and noticed that sand traps are being maintained a lot better than previous years....decent sand in them.....just wish people would rake them! Lots of water and challenge on this course. Tee boxes are okay - just remember how many rounds this place gets. A big plus are divot filling jugs on the carts....if you're waiting please use them to fill in a few - you'll be paid back in spades by the golfing gods. Range off mats/clubhouse with showers in basement and nice bar/restaurant area with some interesting orange whip selections. Short and long par 4's....pleasant 5 shotters. Interesting greensites as well. OV is a very good value. It does get very crowded on the weekends and 5 plus hour rounds can be the norm however it's an excellent enjoyable choice of track. Highly recommended. Years previous I've given this as low as 3 star....upgrading to 4.25 star plus...$30 value weekday/$40-$45 on weekends.
Thank you for taking the time to leave this review. We appreciate your feedback and hope to see you again soon!
Early April Golf
This course is in good shape for the the first week of April in the Chicagoland area. Green were excellent..Drains well as it rained off and on prior and during the round before it turned into a great golf day by the back 9 after a noon tee start.. Staff shared rador weather information and shared raincheck policy and offered a later start of needed. Great young lady at the club house. Since I recently moved to the area in 2017, the course and the customer service has me considering Orchard Valley to become my home course. .
Thanks for your review. We are delighted our staff and greens met your expectations. We hope to see you again soon!
Horrible greens this week
The pro shop said they had just aerated the greens, but all the front side greens had a thick layer of sand on them. The crew were dragging the greens, but they had waaayyyy too much sand on the greens and couldn’t work it all in. The putting conditions were horrible that entire side.
Love the layout
An exciting and fun course to play, loads of character and nice scenery. I always enjoy this fine test of golf.
this course is in good shape
The greens rolled true and fast, the only. Issue was the tee boxes ,they were a little beat up
Aeration and no warnings
This is usually a great experience, but not this day . They started us on #10 and when we made the turn the #1 tee was all jacked up and we had to wait. They should have let us off # 1 since the Aeration was already almost done. Not happy the superintendent decided to do this . i would love a free round for the long wait and ruined round
Extremely disorganized
There was an outing on the course, and there was absolutely no hurry among the members of the outing, and there was also high school girls golf playing 9 holes. It was chaotic, and while I'm tempted to say that it is out of the course's control to deal with these slow players, it is within their control to stop accepting reservations if they aren't going to be able to accommodate them on the course. The disorganization was disappointing. I usually enjoy playing here. My "staff friendliness" rating should not be taken to mean there was any disrespect in any way by staff, but it seems to be the best place to address their lack of helpfulness.
Awful pace of play-no ranger-no drinking water
Played today and the pace of play was terrible. Not once was there a ranger seen to keep things moving. No drinking water available- all coolers were empty. Certainly not the experience you would think for a course that gets good reviews.
Decent course
Very slow on a Saturday afternoon. Bring water. Saw the beverage cart once on each side. Not well marked for yardage. And this goes for every public course - FIX YOUR BALL MARKS!!!!
Great course and even better value...
The only negative was pace of play...took us 5 hours plus. Started really slow, a lot of waiting and watching the group ahead of us. Other that it was a great day and great round. Course was in good shape and the staff was great as well. Will definitely play there again.
Orchard valley
Course condition was ok. Some greens a little slower then others. Fairway were great. Tee boxes a little used. Pace of play was terrible first 5 holes. Almost 5 hours total round. Needs to improve.
