Positional Golf
Course in great shape (fairways and greens) except bunkers are devoid of sand....more like dirt traps. Nice layout thanks requires course management. Very friendly starter and attentive drink cart lady.
Good golf
Just played the course for the second time this year. Course is in excellent shape (even the sand traps) are good with the wet weather we've had this summer.
There's enough danger to make it challenging to play.
Orchard Valley
Orchard Valley is one of my all time favorite public golf courses. It's a beautiful course, I just love the routing and layout of the holes. It's a bit of a ride to Airora to play the course but I make a point of getting out there several times a year and I'm never disappointed. Highly Recommend!
Beat Up
You can tell this course gets a ton of play from outings. The fairways are beat in and around approach shot range and the par 3 tee boxes are terrible. Good luck finding a spot with some grass. It's a shame the course isn't maintained better and the players actually fixed their divots in the fairways and ball marks on the greens.
Billy Casper Golf = POOR MANAGEMENT
Went back after a few weeks to see if the putting conditions had improved. They are somewhat better but OV seems to just continue to go downhill. The interior of the clubhouse building looks and just feels filthy....bathrooms stinky messes and on the course/halfway house restrooms can be even worse. Ever since this management company took over the course/facilities continue to deteriorate. On a busy summer Saturday the halfway house wasn't even open - the employee was on vacation? Come on....lost revenue that the course is in desperate need of. Short staffed in the bar/restaurant as well...I felt really sorry for the gal working there.
Divot laced fairways (good luck not ending up in one).
Was paired up with a wonderful father/son Steve & Sam who were awesome and I very much enjoyed spending the afternoon with them. Thanks guys!!
OV has a really nice layout (except for the stupid 13th) but is in dire need of TLC - get rid of Billy Casper...they just seem to suck the money out of a course and marginally maintain it (Water's Edge for example??). OV's 15th fairway is almost burned out/beyond repair and I didn't see anyone on the course using their divot mix much if at all (it's on the carts folks) to try and improve conditions. This day surprisingly pace of play wasn't an issue....a 430 round normally 5 plus.
Difficult to recommend this place due to the normal price of admission. At this writing it's a $30 course....but if it was managed, maintained, staffed properly....in top notch condition OV is a $45/$50 course easy.....for your hard earned golf dollar you deserve better.
The green like a table, past n hard.
The golf course to good water every wear like it.
I would like playing again .
Beautiful course
First time playing here. Very enjoyable. Started out by myself but joined up with 3 more golfers during the round. Very different front nine and back nine layout. Made for pleasant variety. Pace was excelent on the front. A little slow on the back but not excessive. Would play there again.
Disappointing
Wanted to use the golf boards in our foursome. Upon arrival we were informed they only had 4 and 1 didn't work. Drink cart came once the entire round and halfway house was closed. Just a disappointing experience
Poor Greens, Lots of unraked traps
OV is a fun interesting track with lots of challenges and I thought the greens on this course had turned the corner when I last played it.....but Billy Casper Mgmt continues to ignore the condition of the greens. Tons of poa anna issues and the greens were some of the worst I've played on all season. Bumpy/sketchy and impossible to get a feel for the right speed...ball bouncing and wandering. Greens didn't even appear to be cut or rolled in a few days....and the course wasn't wet!! Practice green was recently aerated and it was the best green on the entire course. Can't recommend this course for the better than average player because you'll be disappointed with the conditions/pace of play. Traps unraked (people don't care) and as usual a slow playing 4-some holding up the entire golf course after 3 holes and not even remotely keeping up with the 4-somes that teed off directly in front of them. Ranger did nothing saying they were playing "at pace" with 2 holes completely open in front of them but you have the rest of the course all backed up? Typical. Folks in proshop, starter, halfway house and beverage cart are pleasant/friendly....rangers not so much and they never move the turtles along anyway. I like OV but won't be back for a while....the putting conditions are ridiculous for what they normally charge. 2.5 stars, $30 course because of the greens.
Great Course, slow Pace
I've played Orchard Valley quite a few times. I'm always pleased with the course conditions, staff, and the overall experience. However, the one thing that is always rough is the pace of play. My group caught up to a group that teed off 45 min before us. When we caught them on 13, they had a group in the fairway ahead of them, a group on the green, and they said there was another group ahead of that group. My group was playing fairly quick (~an hour and 40 for the front 9), but backing up that bad is ridiculous. We ended up driving back to the front 9 and just playing that since it was wide open. I will definitely be back, but I think they need to emphasize etiquette, especially pace of play.
Terrible. It's like they don't care. Once a gem now not close. Will not be back
Not bad. Aeration recently. Probably should disclose that.
5 hour round wasn't fun but course is kind of underrated as far as the set up and conditions. A bunch of fun holes.
Winter golf!
It's a very good course during the summer but I've recently been playing golf in February because its been 60 degrees. Played Cog hill course #3 and St. Andrews so far this winter... Orchard Valley is in noticeably better in condition then those. For winter golf it's excellent!!
