Worth the ride
A bit of a haul from Barrington, but worth the ride..Loved the layout. Course conditions great for this time of year. Staff was super friendly & knowledgeable. I'll be back.
Nice layout
Too much sand in traps, very inconsistent., otherwise a course that is challenging., well conditioned.
Surprisingly Good - Much improved
Had avoided Orchard Valley since Nov 2014.....as it's always a 5 1/2 round (5 today and that was "okay") and the putting conditions back then and for several years were not the best. The course conditioning really has improved and the greens and sand traps were in decent shape. Good roll out on putts and fairly smooth. This time of year I wish that they would blow the 3rd green off a few times a day given the # of acorns and leaves on it. Even the fairways/tee boxes were in good shape.. Divot mix with seed on both sides of the cart.....fantastic!! (provided people actually use it). Lots o' water to fend off on this track. Fun play, well designed (except for the 13th hole)......greens are vastly improved except for ball marks not repaired. Thankfully several of the flags were positioned at backs of greens.....where very few balls marks occur otherwise it's usually a mine field when flag is front. Pleasantly surprised and happy to see improvement. 4.25 stars.
Don't play late afternoons
Pace of play was horrible . It usually is never a problem, but this day it looked like they wanted to make as much money as possible and they stacked up the whole front nine. Over 3 hours to play 9 holes.
Great
We went out on Sunday for a 1:15pm tee time. The course was wrapping up its community scramble and things were looking to be a bit behind. The staff presented us with free drink coupons as consolation for the issue. We teed off close to on-time and the course finally cleared of scramblers about an hour into the round. Then on we were dragged down by slow play from the group in front of us, without rangers prompting them...we had to skip around them (and a hole) to finally play at a decent pace. The pace issue aside the course is very challenging layout and greens usually quicker than most, were just average. Cart beverage service was appreciated during the hot day and staff was nice and friendly. Would absolutely play again - a favorite course.
Another Nice Round at Orchard Valley
Orchard Valley is a challenging, yet fair course. It is in good shape and offers great value. Play was a bit slow, but it was a Saturday, so that was expected. Overall, I continue to enjoy playing there.
A Must Play
It poured the day we played but the course somehow absorbed the water and it was very playable. I expected standing water, there was none. The course has plenty of creative sand traps, water hazards and ravines but the fairways are very wind and you will use every club in your bag. We ate while waiting out a storm. The food was good, service was good and the clubhouse is beautiful. i will definitely go back!
Good course, lousy greens
Very good layout with lots of visually interesting holes and shot varieties. The greens leave a lot to be desired....slow, bumpy, with lots of poa annua. My 2nd time playing, and the first time I played was in April 2014 after a very harsh winter. The greens were terrible then, but most course's greens were in rough shape after that winter, so I thought it was worth another try. It's 20 miles west of where I live and I probably won't make the drive out to play here again. If I lived across the street, maybe - the green fees are cheap enough that I shouldn't expect great greens.
Geese Droppings
Overall course in great condition except for some of the greens were so covered in droppings from the geese you couldn't putt.
Neat course - Great Greens
Course is well kept we really enjoyed our round. The greens were in excellent shape. Slow play, they really need a ranger running around keeping everyone going.
Hard course
Everytime I play there there is a wait at the first 3 holes and it made the round a lot longer. Yesterday took us almost 5 hrs. That is it.
Challenging course but
Loved playing this course when the city owned it since being taken over by Casper it's going downhill. No water in the coolers, never saw the cart person but for once pace of play was better
Great course. Challenging. Terrible pace of play.
Late getting off. Pace through 2 holes was ridiculous. Saw the ranger on his little scooter off road thing. Thought that was a good sign but there was a 5 some 2 groups in front of us and a foursome of women in front of them. 4.5 hours and we left on the 15th tee. Love the course but you gotta move people along a bit
Hi Matthew, we appreciate and value your feedback. We completely understand that pace of play is important to every customer, and we apologize if the pace was not up to par during your round. We are working with our team to improve pace and hope you will be back to play another round with us this season!
Golf in December
Complete;y a bonus to be able to play in December. The course was in great shape for this time of year and this is a well set up and challenging course. Only down side was it got a little slow on the back nine.
We agree that golfing in December is a huge bonus! The course looks gorgeous this year and we hope you will join us for another round this year.
Orchard Valley
Great course, challenging layout, a lot of water on back nine. Great shape for November golf.
We are thrilled to hear you enjoyed the course, especially in November, which is a real treat with Chicago winters. We hope to see you back for another round this summer the course looks amazing!
Great Fall Golf
Course was in great shape for this late in season , Staff friendly, good pace of play, will be back.
Nice course, Fair challenge
Starter was nice and helpful, First 3 holes started out slow but opened up after the water hole. everyone was nice to talk to.
Good condition ,Fair bailout areas
Was a enjoyable day and a good course to enjoy it on.
We are happy you enjoyed your round and had a great experience. The course looks excellent and we hope you will join us for a round this summer!
Bad Golf Experience
I will NEVER EVER play this course again. One of the worst golf experiences I have had in a long time. 5 and a half hours to play 18 holes. That is one of the worst run facilities in the Chicago area. The thing is they don't care, it is all about the money. They do nothing to speed up the pace of play. It is a shame that people have to leave the course early because of this. The group behind us couldn't finish their round because they had other plans. They left after 16. On top of that the conditions of the greens are really bad. It is like a war zone of ball marks. Too bad because the layout is pretty decent. Well enough said. If you want to play here you better figure 6 hours to be safe.
Pace of play is very important to each golfer and we apologize that it affected your experience at Orchard Valley. Our staff is working on improvements to the pace of play on the course and hope you will come back to give us a chance to offer your an improved experience.
greens in poor condition
Pace of Play was slow ... a group of 4 women and 2 women were slow....Greens were in need of mowing.
no one seemed to repair Ball Marks on the Greens.
I repaired a Minimum of 4 ( Not ours ) on every Green
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We try to communicate different ways each guest can contribute on their own to keep up a reasonable pace and to keep the course in good condition, such as repairing their own ball marks. We understand that not everyone follows these rules and apologize if your experience was impacted as a result. We hope you will be back to play with us again soon so we have the opportunity to offer you a much better golfing experience.
Beware of lower tee fee
I normally love this course but was lured in with a lower fee only to be fit in around a golf outing that took over 5 1/2 hours. I think this course should either not sell these tee times, or at least fully disclose that we weill be fit in around a golf outing. I feel I and my time were abused. Beware of lower tee fees to fill in a couple of holes in the schedule!
We apologize for any inconvenience you experienced during your round as a result of a previously booked outing. Unfortunately when a guest books online, there is not a way for us to display whether or not we have an outing that day. If a guest books in the golf shop or by phone, our staff will alert a guest of anything that might affect their tee time. We encourage each guest to call the shop in advance, even if they book online. We hope you will be back to play the course again soon, our staff would be happy to set you up with a time that would result in a more enjoyable round.
We are glad that you had a great time playing at Orchard Valley. We have worked hard to in finding methods to keep the pace of play moving, so I am glad that you have noticed an improvement. I am sorry to hear that there was no water in the coolers or a cart person present. There are certain days where we do not have a cart person. As always, please feel free to contact the golf shop before your next round to speak with a member of our staff for an update on the cart schedule to make sure that you will be serviced accordingly. We are looking forward to a beautiful season and we look forward to seeing you soon!
