Great course, very slow play
Love the layout and conditions of this course. Unfortunately a Friday afternoon round was over 5 hours.
The back nine was more challenging
I play infrequently, but this was the nicest course that I have played out of the six outings this year. My brother was visiting from Phoenix, so this was a nice surprise for him.
The carts are new and work great, although they do not have the GPS distance finders that Talking Stick had in Scottsdale.
The grounds crew at Orchard Valley does an excellent job. It was a pleasure to view the fairways. Unlike some courses, there are still well-maintained sand bunkers to add intrigue to the game.
I wish some of the drains would have had distance markings on them. I liked the flowers near some of the tee boxes. At the turn, the ladies in the clubhouse were charming. I paid $4 for an all beef hot dog.
There is a lot of water (hazards) on the back nine. It was beautiful, though. Tons of egrets and turtles in the lake.
Riley was driving the drink cart. She was nice and pleasant to speak with. Good luck at Western Illinois, Riley!
Orchard Valley may be one of the nicest courses in the area. Great job, guys!
Best Course in the Area
The course was in superb condition and the staff all seemed happy to be there. Kudos to the management staff there. I found my new home course!
Top notch
I hadn’t played there in years because I heard the course was in bad condition. Glad I went to play...the course is in good condition and a spectacular value.
Tough fun course off the blues
Course a lot of fun...tough but fair...greens weren't in the best shape and very slow. Needed a ranger as it took over 5 hours to play and 3 some ahead of us slowed everyone down..
Great course and control your drives
This is the best course in the area and is very well kept. Couple of tricky holes off the tee (3 iron holes) which is fine but not for the guys that want to let the big dog eat. Great setup but many non driver holes off the tee. Greens held well and rolled great and true. Pace of play is slow but that's what you get. Highly recommend this course for the mid to low handicap player
5 hr round
There is no way this course is rated 6th best course in Illinois. It is such a poorly ran course, it’s ridiculous. It took us over 5 hours to play a round and not one time did someone come out and try to speed up pace of play. The group in front of us hacked that course up, at least 5 tee boxes were not on level ground or extremely chewed up, greens were beat up with dead spots and/or ball marks that weren’t fixed, people playing in shorts and tee shirts, letting people tee off every 7 minutes and congesting the course up. I live 10 minutes away and will never play this course again.
Very Solid Track
I haven't played Orchard Valley in 5 years because I had heard other golfers saying the course had gone downhill since opening really well and being a top-rated course 20 years ago. Well, I'm certainly glad I gave them another chance and played the course again! Got a Hot Deal and played at 2:30pm on a Sunday for only $35! I was unfortunately sandwiched between numerous foursomes, so I had to wait in between shots, but the course was in excellent condition throughout and the players in front were playing at a decent clip. Greens could have been cut a tad quicker, but still ran out well. I've played OV a handful of times now, and there are 7 or 8 really interesting holes on this course. Definitely worth the drive a few times a year.
Great Course Conditions and a great value
Played 18 holes at Orchard Valley. While it was windy, the course was in great shape. My only suggestion would be to speed up the greens. Otherwise the conditions and the pace of play were great. The new electric carts only add to a wonderful experience.
Playable by all but puts skills to the test
Great course. Challenging but fair. Keep it in the shortgrass.
Early season condition: superb
From practice greens to teebox to fairway to greens, course was in real good shape. Thankful ballmarks on greens were few. Straight shots rewarded, mis-hits costly.
Will play again soon.
Good early season condition
Course was in good shape, but greens were a little slow and bumpy. Play it and you'll enjoy the round.
Lots of Water!
Found the tee time on golf now so great value. A lot of water hazards which made for a challenging round. Great layout for the most part. Pretty well kept, including greens (a bit on the slow side). Really enjoyed it, I will be returning.
Nice quick early season round
OV was in decent shape. Range was open off mats. Course fairly wet so cart path only. No rakes in traps yet...sand hasn't been touched early season. No water and no beverage service at all...maybe in the proshop? Got around in 2.5 hours...2nd one on the course at 930am. By the time I finished the putting green was full of high school girls and parents....which would have made for the usual 5 hour plus afternoon round at this place. Greens were actually fairly playable....a tad sandy but had a decent roll and and not too bumpy. Believe once the grass grows and the greens get cut a few times they won't be as bad as they have been in seasons past. Remains to be seen as there were plethoras of old brown ballmarks which will not turn green anytime soon. Refer to my previous reviews of this place. A place to avoid if the tee sheet is full and conditioning hasn't been the best these past few seasons...real hit or miss. Recommending for now. If I play OV again in a few months don't be surprised if I tell you to avoid this place like the plague again......
False advertisement
I purchased this tee time online for $30. When I showed up to the course, they said " you are starting on the back because we are aerating the front". Needless to say I would have played somewhere else for my $30 because we couldn't even keep score on the front it was in such poor condition.
Not happy that this maintenance was not stated on their online purchasing. I would have saved myself $30 and a 20mile drive.
Great challenge!
Conditions were very good considering the lack of rain. Greens rolling slower but true. Fantastic value!
could not have been better
We had a scramble . It went off with out a hitch. The course was in great shape especially considering the lack of rain. EVERYONE HAD A GREAT TIME!! I look forward to playing it again.
Great Golf Value
Play was slower than usual.. the course is in great condition, staff was apologetic. It's a fun sporty course. Highly recommend
