Stellar
Staff warm friendly! For a $53 dollar hot deal it’s the best bang for your buck on a weekday. Full price would be harder to play more often. Course in amazing condintions for a public course. Love electric carts with GPS! They let me go out as a single before my actual tee time to avoid being behind a few three somes. Done in 3.5 hours
Cheers
Nice Course, Great Practice Facility
I love Harborside, when it's not at full price. I try to play when it is not busy and I can play fast. Two beautiful layouts that are challenging and fun. Can get windy, but overall a fun course.
It was fantastic greens fast and true and firm Fairways mode tight divots taken care of
Well Designed Course!
Great value (paid $59), and fun/challenging course. Highly recommend, especially if you can get a good deal
Great Course!
Everything - except my play, was outstanding! Staff and course was great. Greens were fast, but readable. Execution was another story! I loved it! The views were better than most of Illinois! I will return again.
Port Worth The Price
Harborside’s famous Port course is absolutely worth playing if you are an advanced golfer. The Port is more difficult than the sister course, Starboard, but both are certainly worth playing. These link style courses are fun to play, are always in good conditions, and force players to hit a variety of shots. The Port hosted a Senior PGA Tour event in the early 2000’s and it’s easy to see why at 7,100 yards off the championship tees.
The course wraps around Lake Calumet and offers major elevation changes and views to the city along the way. If it’s a windy day, it will certainly feel like you’re playing at The Open. The closing holes are very entertaining including the signature #15 Anchor hole (shaped like an anchor), #16 plunges back down to the lake with an elevated tee box, #17 and 18 finishes with the lake looming on the left. All of the par-5’s are over 500 yards, so make sure you bring your long game.
Again, Harborside has one of THE best practice facilities in the Chicagoland area, period. Deep grass range, putting greens, chipping greens, etc. Prices have increased because of a major bunker renovation in 2017, but you can book a twilight tee time and save a bit on greens fees. I keep coming back and I always leave happy I played here; no wonder it’s on the top places to play.
Tight fairways
Excellent conditions and overal great layout, especially for the price! Need to drive the ball well or you could be in for a long day with the thick fescue in the rough.
Need Improvement
This is not the first time I played at this course. Few years ago I visited this course few times and I think the course was beautiful consider the distance from Chicago downtown. This time the whole place is just like a construction site. The sand bunker is dry with no sand but only mud, a few hole(s) is fill with construction equipment and the smell is terrible. They should have closed before the maintenance finish or at least inform the visitors about the maintenance issue. Totally disappointed
Great Course
This is one of the nicest public courses you will ever play, especially for the price. Greens, fairways, and rough are all perfect. This course is a must play if in the Chicago area.
No more, thanks....
I have zero interest if ever playing this course again. What a joke! Overrated to say the least. The bunkers are absolutely horrific. I was in a green side bunker getting ready to splash out and my club gets caught up in some plastic lining and it did a number on my wrist. That lining coming up everywhere and if it's not it's because they put two and a half foot of sand in the others. Over priced, overrated, trash heap, literally....
Great experience (Port Course)
Really great layout. The bunkering and hole shapes require you to hit a lot of different tee shots if you want to shorten some holes by cutting corners. Everything was in great condition. I've recently played Pebble Beach, Whistling Straits, and Olympia Fields, and these course conditions rivaled all of those. The GPS on the cart was a huge plus, especially with a lot of the bunker corner cutting that bigger hitters can get at on this course. I wish more courses that aren't just straight forward rec layouts would do have these systems in the carts (e.g. Lost Marsh).
Fun Course - Good Shape
I'm a fan of well maintained courses and Harborside didn't disappoint. The Port course was a well maintained, solid layout that treated us well. Overall we enjoyed our round.
Good as expected
First time playing the course and was not disappointed. It is expensive to play here, but with a discount card I received at a golf expo over the winter, I was able to get a fantastic rate, about half normal. The course is very challenging, imagine it is incredibly hard when the wind is up. Conditions were without a doubt the best of any course I've played this year. The only complaint would be that the GPS seemed to give yardage to the pin that didn't match up with where the flag was actually located on the green, in a couple cases GPS had the flag in the back of the green, when clearly it was located in the front. Hope to get the opportunity to play here again in the near future.
Great City Courses
Beautiful golf courses. Pace of play was excellent today. Windier than usual and it's usually pretty windy on these courses. Need to play the low shot anything high and spinning will end up in the fescue or water.
Punched Greens
Why doesn't the staff tell the customer on the phone that the greens have just recently been punched. We received a discount on the round when we arrived but had we known ahead of time we would have gone elsewhere. This is true of many courses.
