Perfect Choice!
I was told about this course to add to my 'play golf in every state' menu. I is an awesome addition to my list! It is a little out of the way but that is quickly overcome by how beautiful this place is. The course was in excellent shape and the day was beautiful. It was well worth the money!
I want to love this place but . . .
I want to love this course so much, but the Port Authority and Kemper make it so hard.
1) just cut the grass one time a year. The course is challenging enough, but you would quicken the pace of play by an hour, if everyone didn't spend hours looking for their ball in the long stuff. You cut it on 10/18 Starboard, and its findable and playable.
2) Cost. $105 for a weekend morning tee time is getting out of control. Cantigny is only $95, and they host state amateurs.
3) please get rid of the geese on 18, they are tearing up the course.
Check whether carts are unrestricted
I played the Port course because there was an outing on the other one.
The course was backed up from the beginning.
What made matters worse was that carts were restricted to cart path only.
I quit after nine, happy to give up after over 2 and 1/2 hours of drudgery.
very sandy starboard course
Solid course in very good condition, the back nine of the Starboard course is very sandy, with far more challenging landings than the front nine.
Surprisingly slow
Harborside is very conveniently located and is a 20 minute drive from downtown Chicago. At $110 a round, you shouldn't expect too many hacks and inexperienced golfers. More importantly, you expect the pace of play to go by pretty quickly. The thing I hate the most is waiting on EVERY tee shot and many other shots. This includes waiting on every par 3 - sometimes even catching up to the group ahead on the tee.
Diamond in the rough !!!!!!!!!
Very challenging and scenic !! Don't expect to find such an excellent course in the city, on an Expressway, built on a garbage dump BUT there it is.
Review
Great shape, long fescue, decent greens and windy. Tougher course than advertised.
Great layout
Harborside International is a great layout. Advanced players will enjoy the challenge. Be sure to select tee to match skill set.
harborside-Starboard
Greens were not in good shape, but the rest of the course was in fine shape. Growing the fescue high. A lot of lost balls...
Port Course
Great course, wish there were a few more trees to break up the holes, but overall fun round
Nice course but not as oggod as I expected it to be
This is a nice complex, I along with my playing partners expect a bit nicer conditions, the greens were pretty rough and severly bumpy and my oh my slow.. I am sure the rain the previous day might have caused them to not mow.. The course is very nice looking and difficult even on a day with out a lot of wind.. Would like to play it again under better conditions.
Excellent course, and a better staff!
From the moment you arrive, you feel like it is going to be an amazing day. Everything is so well kept, you almost forget you are playing on an old garbage dump!
best course in midwest
Thank you golfnow,I would not be able to play such an amazing course as Harborside without the discount golfnow offers.just an amazing course, especially with the wind but wow, what an experience.thank you.
Awesom greens!!!
Just played yesterday, and while mother nature definitely came through with a gorgeous day, the course is arguably in 'Peek Shape'!! With a little cooler weather, the ground has firmed up, the deep rough has been cut back, and the greens....... running super true, and at high rates of speed!! Definitely some of the best putting surfaces available to the public.
Best bang for your buck near chicago
For a fall weekday rate of $27 with cart and range balls, I don't think anything is even close to being a better value. Greens were smooth as glass, great to putt on.
Great Condition
For this late in the season...fantastic condition!
Tee boxes, fairways and greens all superb. Bunkers could definitely use some help, specifically, more sand in them. Everyone in our group thought the same.
Hadn't played this in quite some time, 7/8 years and was happy we came back. Holes were interesting and fun.
Value only great as a result of fall rates. The nearly hundred bucks they get in peak season...?? Maybe not.
It's gonna be hard to play OTHER courses now.
Whats to say about this facility, it is a golfers dream! Played the Starboard Course and was blown away by the beauty.
The practice facility is amazing and a small bucket is included in the price. Great golf cars with towels, and a club cleaner and ball washer on the cart. You will be reaching for your phone numerous times during the round because the views are stunning, especially the view from just outside the clubhouse on the course side where the two 18th holes meet.
The course is humbling links style golf. Many holes you just don't know where to hit the drive due to undulating fairways and very well placed bunkers, Im sure it gets easier if you play here more often. I hit a few beautiful drives that looked to be right in the middle of the fairway and couldn't find them and had to drop. This course is really a work of art, and a perfect use of land. The greens are FAST and you will pay DEARLY for misread putts and chips. There are NO TREES but DEEP rough, with no trees sometimes the sun will be right in your eyes which makes spotting balls very tough.
#17 par 3 on the Starboard Course is amazing.
As hard as the course is, and as high of a score as you may put up, its hard to stay mad here, it is just so beautiful, no stupid houses along the fairways, it is a course made for golfers, tucked away from the world in its own little pocket. Love this place, going back soon.
BUYER BE WARE
I played Haborside early in the year and it was in much better condition. The traps were unplayable! Aeration was a challenge. The cart paths reminded me of Chicago streets after a long hard winter. PUT SOME MONEY INTO THIS FACILITY!
