A fun course to play
We had a nice time playing this course.. it has it's challenges which makes it fun. A lot of courses are now nothing but driving ranges where you smack the ball 250 chip up and get your par.. .this is actual golf where you need all the clubs in your bag.... would love to play it again...
Water bill paid?
I had not played this course in 5 years. This week I recalled why. It is too cramped due its introduction a half century ago. There are a lot of local hackers slowing play. The biggest thing is they don't water it enough. I am a 11 handy capper that sent many a high lofty wedges to the green and couldnt stop the ball. It would run off the green. If your going to charge $72 for 18 and a cart on a weekend/holiday water it for Pete's sake. Especially when the area had a long hot dry spell. To many enjoyable, we'll maintained courses in the area at this rate or cheaper available that I would play before returning to MPGC. Never again.
Disappointing
1st play since redesign. The new layout was pretty good, but the greens were very hard, very fast, and in my opinion, way too "tricked-up". Like they were trying for Chambers Bay style video game golf. Pace of play was abysmal. 5 hrs. Amenities very much improved, clubhouse beautiful, if it was $35 I would recommend, but not at $60
course Changes
Its been several years (maybe 20) since I have played this course because I moved to a southern suburb. I remember many things about it and heard there had been some changes.
Well the clubhouse was beautiful, Great Job! They the driving range more accessible and longer, also great job. But I think they could put some more money into the course as a hole. I say a lot of ground under repair. The green were firm and fast, and didn't hold anything I hit from 80 yards and out.
This is course is worth the price you play and if I had the opportunity, I would play it again. I just wished the pace of play was a little fast. For 6100 yards you should finish in 4 hours. it took 4 hours to play 14 holes.
Great Course
I had a tremendous experience at the Mount Prospect Golf Course. Before my round I warmed up at the new driving range that is by far my favorite in the area. The course was in great condition. Even the staff was friendly and very helpful. I would recommend this course to anybody looking to play a great paced beautiful golf course!
MPGC new design
Having played it nearly every summer day of my youth, I was intimately familiar with the course prior to the improvements/redesign. Aside from the obvious grass and grounds issues which may be owing only to its short rebuilt life, this is on every level a superior golf course. Interesting, challenging (albeit short), fair and pretty describe every one of its 18 wonderful holes. Well placed and uniquely designed bunkers challenge any level of player to, in regulation, reach each of the ominously undulating greens. This a a great tract attached to which is a perfectly practical and exceedingly attractive clubhouse. This all made for a terrific afternoon of golf.
P.S. I would be surely remiss in failing to mention the competent, courteous and pleasantly friendly staff.
Great Day Despite the Rain
Nice staff, good pace, very good conditions. It rained off and on, and we finally got chased by storm on the 18th tee box. We really enjoyed the new layout, but we could have used some knowledge on the greens going in. I'd have to say these have some of the tougher undulations for a local public course. We really enjoyed them, but they may not be everyone's cup of tea.
Don't let the short yardage fool you --- it's a challenging course. However, if you normally play from the whites, play the silver tees here. The golds are right up by the front/bronze tees and make too many holes too short (at least on the day we played).
Bonus: A GolfNow guy was out on the course and bought us a round of beers and gave each of us a dozen TaylorMade balls. Nice...
We will be back soon.
Great Renovation
I've played the course many times before the renovation and always enjoyed it, but now its even better! It's in great shape! Really well manicured! It's a shorter course, but don't be fooled, the difficulty comes into play on the greens. They are tough. They require accurate approach shots, and a solid short game! They are in great shape and roll true, but are very undulated. You"ll never have a flat, straightforward putt. Thankfully they have a massive newly renovated putting green to practice on before your round! I am more then pleased with the changes to the course and will certainly be playing it a lot this season!
New Course
GPS in carts are very helpful.
Some hidden shots.
Greens might be over tricked up for this course.
Only one weak hole #10 par
Good value.
Outstanding Renovation
I am so thrilled we picked this course for our Memorial Day morning round. The design work on the course renovation was truly outstanding and the conditions were equally good. Playing at Mt Prospect makes you feel like you are playing a private club designed by one of the great old architects from the turn of the century like Raynor, Macdonald, or Ross. If that is what they were going for when they renovated the 1926 course then they nailed it. Mt Prospect GC is a course that I would absolutely play every day. I only wish I lived in Mt Prospect.
A Fun Course for Any Golfer
I frequently play at Mt. Prospect Golf Club. The course is always well maintained. The range is open enough to work on every shot in the game and the bays are well maintained to hit off the grass. The greens can be challenging but are nothing to be fearful of. At 6300 yards it's a good course for men and women. It's just a very fun, well maintained course.
The staff is super friendly and are genuinely concerned about allowing golfers to just have a good time.
The pace of play is perfectly fine, even on tournament days.
The renovation last years has made this course a great place to play.
The food is very good and has a large selection.
This place is easily a 5 star place and a must play for anyone that wants to work on all parts of your game. Or if you just enjoy the game of golf.
Friendly Staff on a Great Suburban Course
Had a great time at Mount Prospect!
Long day
Course was in good shape Greens we're extremely hard, fast and ungulated. Course is relatively flat but the make up for it on the greens. There is very few flat putts. Enjoyed course kayoutbut had tournament outing in front of us so endedupbeing 5 hour round. I would play again hooding for quicker round
Amazing Greens
I have never seen greens that are in such perfect conditions this early in the golf season. The newly designed greens are much tougher than they used to be but conditions are spectacular.
Great greens!
The greens will get you coming back! For being a shorter course playing 6100 from the tips, the layout and undulating greens will truly test your game
Nice layout
A fun and challenging course. Very well conditioned considering how early it is in the season. Slow start due to frost on the grains but otherwise pace of play was excellent. Enjoyed it very much
Great Course, Rock Hard Greens
Mt. Prospect GC is a fun course. It is a very interesting and challenging layout, forcing you to use every club in the bag. The only complaint about the course itself is that the greens are rock hard and it's tough to hold approach shots, as they usually careen off of the undulations on the greens.
Overall it was a beautiful day on a fun golf course. Can't complain.
Long, tricky
Got caught behind a foursome giving what seemed to be an on course lesson??? Greens were filled with false fronts and tricky reads. Overall worth the price, only bugged by the fact it was one of the longest rounds due to a foursome not allowing us to play through and giving a lesson
Tremendous Renovation
Play the course many times before the renovation and the changes that were with the renovation are incredible. The practice areas were vastly improved with a large practice putting green with many slopes and undulations, a short game area that you can pitch and hit bunker shots and a 20 station bent grass tee range. The only one I know of in the area.
The course itself is completely changed. Bunkers were placed in strategic places all around the course. Mounding was placed between fairways of the holes give separation to this tight course and really gives the course some character. The biggest change, however, is the greens. The old greens were very small and circular with hardly any break at all. The new greens are 2 to 3 times the size with many slopes and undulations in them, which makes them challenging yet fun to play. I was told all 18 greens are replicas of famous green around the world. I was even impressed with the new GPS equipped on each cart. I was able to touch anywhere on the screen and it gave me the exact yardage to that point and then the yardage from that point to the hole. Very helpful in laying up or punching out from under a tree.
Overall, I was extremely satisfied with the renovation and I like the new challenges the course presents. HUGE upgrade from the old course. I loved everything from the practice areas, to the carts and GPS, the changing elevation of the landscape and the greens. I will definitely be playing this course more often. Job well done Mt. Prospect!
