Rude Staff - Good Course
I love the course and live close by so this would be my home turf. Good greens and nice fairways with some really nice holes. The only complaint it the rude guy that works the pro shop sometimes. He is just plain rude and really needs an attitude adjustment. It isnt the older gentleman! Next time he is rude I will be loud and rude right back and make sure he is accountable for being so. I will be back!
Staff
Person in pro shop was very rude . I almost walked out even tho I paid, but I really was looking forward to playing. There was nobody on the tee and I was early, I asked if I could go out by myself and he goes thru this whole thing about how they don’t make money off of golf now and that I can only play at my time with other players. I won’t go there again, there are a lot of other courses out there. I never had anyone do that before if it was too crowded I wouldn’t of asked it was never a problem before.
Hidden gem
Great course.
Well maintained and managed.
Doesn't look like much from the street, but once you get back in there you see what a beautiful course it is.
Hello u7402983. Thank you for your 5-star rating! We also think our course is a hidden gem! Please book another round with us soon.
Course is in great shape. Some of the shorter par 4's are the most challenging holes on the course. Consistent conditions through the whole season every year I have played here. If you can hit the ball in the fairway you can score here. I'm a member at a club a few miles away yet I play here 15 times a year because you know what you are going to get. Good conditions and a good value.

Challenging layout
I played PI 5 times this year and the course maintenance steadily improved over the summer. First, the layout will challenge golfers of all levels. The course is not flat so be prepared to play lies from all levels. Scenically the course is very attractive. Second, the course does not handle large amounts of rain and this causes both slow play and damage to the course. Third, the course needs a driving range. It has a driving net, putting and chipping greens but a driving range will take it to the next level. Off course amenities are ok but nothing to get excited about. The course does not discount rates for senior golfers so this is why I give a course a lower value score. My biggest gripe is that the lack of rangers causes slow play which is exacerbated by wet conditions. On a positive note the course has had a lot of work this past summer with new traps, trees pruned and maintained and greens rolled. My advice is pick a dry day in the middle of the week and give the course a try.
Hello, we're glad you enjoyed our challenging course layout. Thank you for playing Prairie Isle Golf Club!
Good condition
Lots of rain previous night but course in reasonably good shape. Some soggy areas existed but not bad considering amount of rainfall. Good layout on a nice property. Greens were in especially good shape.
Don't play after rain storm
Only played 5 holes, carts on cart path only needed very difficult to continue to walk this course. Lot of water on the fairways and bunkers don't play after a rainstorm
Consistently terrific.
There are a number of really good public courses within ten miles of where I live. Prairie Isle is my favorite. The layout is challenging but fair, there aren't any tricked up holes, and the conditioning of the course is consistently good. I am a member at a private club, but I play "The Isle" at least a dozen times a year. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming, and I always feel like my business is appreciated there. The clubhouse is nothing special, but it's a comfortable place to have drink after your round. The only significant drawback to the course is that there is no practice range.
Nice course
The course was in pretty good shape considering all the recent rain. We haven’t played here in 2 years and it seemed a little better then. Tee boxes today were rough, long and uneven. Otherwise the fairways were really nice and the greens were in good shape too. I remember loving their grilled hot dogs but I think business is down as it was pretty quiet, and as a result they didn’t have the grill fired up. Maybe it’s Friday, too. Wieners made inside were lukewarm. We love this course and will be back on a week or so.
great course slow play. NO RANGER
Played this course 20 times this year. The golf course is not managed properly.clock at starter hole broken all year.traps have rocks in them. leafs in rough many lost ball slows PACE OF PLAY. NO RANGER TO PUSH SLOW PLAY. COURSE OWNER NEEDS TO REVIEW THESE PROBLEMS
Prairie Isle is a must play in Northern Illinois
Beautiful course partially cut from an old rock quarry. Fun course, meticulous conditioning, and always a memorable experience when playing here. Highly recommend.
Challenging layout
Great course overall. Biggest complaint is the lack of yardage markers on the holes. With the elevation changes and aging eyesight, it's hard to tell your yardage from the pin. Still had a great time.
Course needs a refreshen
Fairways and rough were in good shape. Greens were slow. Overall look of the course is third looking. Trees need to be trimmed and the surrounding areas are overgrown and weedy.
Played late thurs morning and had a 5 hr round. No starter and no rangers. Course is tough for the higher handicaps and there's no one out there to keep things moving.
Fun layout - but needs work
I have play this course about 3-4 times a year. The layout is the best aspect of the course. Plenty of challenge for every level of play. The course can suffer after a moderate rain with several low spots on numbers 9, 10 and 11. The sand traps need work because most have rocks mixed with the sand. The off course amenities are limited. Food is available but basically limited to burgers and dogs. The course does not have a driving range - but does have a decent putting green. PI does have a driving net, practice sand trap with green. Pace of play can be agonizingly slow since there are few if any rangers roaming the course. The tee boxes get chewed up and many golfers neglect to fix their ball marks on the green. The course does not offer a senior rate which is one reason why my play is limited to 3-4 times a year. Unless you are a regular the staff is friendly but not overly so. The pro shop is below average with limited product.
Great course, great layout, must play
Prairie Isle is a tough fun course, with a great variety of holes and elevation changes. Water is in play on 12 holes, but it is a good balance in terms of difficulty. No practice range, but there is a net to warm up and they have a great short game area and a very good putting green. Clubhouse and bar are very minimal, so menu is limited but brats and burgers are good.
