Fun layout - but needs work
I have play this course about 3-4 times a year. The layout is the best aspect of the course. Plenty of challenge for every level of play. The course can suffer after a moderate rain with several low spots on numbers 9, 10 and 11. The sand traps need work because most have rocks mixed with the sand. The off course amenities are limited. Food is available but basically limited to burgers and dogs. The course does not have a driving range - but does have a decent putting green. PI does have a driving net, practice sand trap with green. Pace of play can be agonizingly slow since there are few if any rangers roaming the course. The tee boxes get chewed up and many golfers neglect to fix their ball marks on the green. The course does not offer a senior rate which is one reason why my play is limited to 3-4 times a year. Unless you are a regular the staff is friendly but not overly so. The pro shop is below average with limited product.
Great course, great layout, must play
Prairie Isle is a tough fun course, with a great variety of holes and elevation changes. Water is in play on 12 holes, but it is a good balance in terms of difficulty. No practice range, but there is a net to warm up and they have a great short game area and a very good putting green. Clubhouse and bar are very minimal, so menu is limited but brats and burgers are good.
Bate and switch
Made a reservation a week before got a rate of $45.00. When I was in line waiting to pay the group in front had a problem with their price quote. They said they got $50 rate and the pro who was manning the desk said the price was $64.00. When it was my turn the same thing happened. I told him I had a quote of $45. He wasnt too Friendly and said take it or leave it, since we drove from Atlington hgts and wanted to play. We payed the $64
If you get a price when you call make sure you get the persons name.
5 some...really?
Tee time was 11:30 and on time. There was a foursome in front of us and a five group in front of them. The round was over 4.5 hours. The 5 some were also elderly and slow. There was no group in front of them that we could see. The four in front of us were probably part of the larger group since they did not attempt to play through or let us. There were four groups on many holes. There was no ranger to keep pace. This is very poor management and hurts the game.
Greens were too slow. Sand traps filled with pebbles and edges not kept well. Nice course too bad it is poorly managed.
Great value
A long ride up north, but well worth it. A steal on golfnow for $30. Great layout. You have some room to hit driver here, but there are holes that force you to be very accurate and smart. A fun course at a great price.
Fun course & good challenge
Challenging layout and well maintained. Occasional problems after heavy rains but that is limited to the holes on the low side of the course - nos 9 and 10. No driving range but it does have a driving net, chipping and putting greens. Can be pricey on the weekends. Bar is ok as is the pro shop. Real fun is to be found on the course layout so all-in-all it is worth the play.
Our 'Go-To' Course
The course is always in great shape. Wide variety of hole configurations. Absolutely the BEST course for fall golf, as they are meticulous about removing all leaves from the ground, even in the wooded areas.
Excellent course
Debated on courses to play. Glad i chose here. Course was in great shape. Pacd was very good. Greens were the best I have played since Oakland Hills in Michigan back in '12. Except for being reprimanded for teeing off on time ( the other two people we were supposed to be paired with were late), it was good day. Elevation changes, playability, layout. All excellent. Play this course uf you are near it.
Great Value-great greens
Fun course to play fairways and greens were as good as you see in the area.
Tough but fair
After many rounds in the 90's, a few in the mid 80's, I finally matched up to this tough course. Playing from the silver tees (whites on par threes) I shot a 77 on Sunday. Hitting the ball straight is the secret on this layout. Errant balls will often cost you a penalty stroke. I hit 14 greens in regulation and putted well on all but three of them, where I three jacked by missing short ones. The greens were great, the fault was in my stroke. Course is in good shape.
P.S. a few lessons from Golftec are also helping.
Classy course
I have played at exclusive courses all over the United States and this is by far one of the best courses, for design, maintenance, and management. It has a private club feel and the course will stands up to any private track in the States. The pro is one of the most professional person that I have had the pleasure to meet. If you have the time don't miss the hidden jewel please play it you will fall in love with it the way I have.
always in good shape
Play this course 10 times a year at least and it is always in good shape. Nice par 3's . First half of the back nine is challenging. Cant remember ever having pace of play issues . they don't open as early in the season as some of the other courses but when they open the course is in good shape and the traps have been worked through
Prairie isle
We play this course often , it’s convient for everyone always in good shape golf staff are very accommodating. Will be going back soon. Price is perfect for seniors. Jimmy F
It's Almost Spring
Considering Spring of 2018 is still on the horizon, course was in excellent condition; carts allowed on fairway, greens rolled true and will be much faster once warm weather arrives - best value in the area.
Beautiful Illinois Gem
Highly recommend this course. Perfect conditions on 11/27/17, and it was 90 degrees with carts, which really helped the pace. Played another course today that is highly rated, cart part only, so big difference having access to drive on the course. This course is easily one of the best conditioned fun courses I play. Great mix of short/long 5's, 4's, 3's. 12 and 13 are fantastic holes that are not typical in the northern illinois area. This course is a must play for anyone that likes to try all great courses in their area.
