Hidden gem...
Prairie Isle is the very definition of a hidden gem. Surrounded, as it is, by many other well-known tracks, it doesn't get the attention that it so richly deserves. The conditions are always excellent, and the layout offers a great variety of challenges. Holes 8-13 in particular are just plain great golf holes, with water, woods, wildlife and views in abundance.
At the prices they are now charging, this is the best golf bargain in the NW suburbs, without a doubt.
Prairie Isle
The course was in great shape. If the weather allows, I would recommend playing it before the end of the season. Tyler and the team have done a wonderful job this Fall.
Back to Prairie Isle
Always enjoy playing this course in previous years. This was our first time in 2016. We felt management had raised prices and kept a lot of golfers away. Course was in good shape. It was an October round but the management had removed ball washers, water dispensers, and most of the signs at the tee that show the hole # (confusing) and yardages. As other reviews have mentioned, fairway markers showing yards to the hole are very minimal. White stakes at 150 would be inexpensive and very helpful.
one word brief
Mostly the course conditions are very good.
Lovely,Scenic, Fun
This course is on my top 5 in the area.
The day was a 10
Very interesting -challenging
Excellent Golf Course!
Prairie Isle is one of the best kept courses in Lake County. The greens are immaculate and roll true. The staff does a great job manicuring the course, especially this time of year with the leaves falling. The staff if friendly and the 19th hole is a great place to complete your round. The Golf Pro is extremely knowledgeable and is accessible - he makes you feel welcome at his course. I highly recommend playing here!

Great golf course, will play it again. The course is challenging especially holes 10 thru 14.
Liked it, will come back
Nice course, conditions were fine, even though the front 9 greens were aerated, they were still very playable and rolled true. Back 9 greens were perfect. Enjoyable layout with some doglegs and lots of hills, so some tee shots are sort of a mystery as to exactly where to aim if it's your first time. Pretty short from the whites but a few of the tee shots are tight and would be daunting from the blues. Overall a fun course and will play again.
Course has character
Tees, greens, & fairways were in excellent shape. Layout has doglegs & hilly terrain to call for some good shot making. A very enjoyable day.
This course requires use of all your clubs
It's a really nice layout. I had played it 20 years ago and really forgot about it. It's in very good shape and requires you to use all of your clubs and be pretty accurate. You really need to keep the ball in the fairway.
The challenge is never ending.
I discovered this course by accident and keep coming back because each time I play, the course always presents a challenge. The course is well maintained - especially the greens which are true and smooth. Each hole will present the golfer with some risk-reward decisions with the risk being a lost ball, double bogey or both. However, the course allows for conservative play and good scoring. The 8th hole, their signature hole, is as aesthetically beautiful as it is challenging. Standing on the tee high above a green which has water virtually surrounding it, the golfer is faced the question: Can I get there with my wedge or do I try to hit a half 8 iron! Make no mistake, this course is very playable and will give golfers many reasons to come and play again. Unfortunately, the course does not have a driving range which makes warming up an issue.
Keeps getting better with each round.
This course is a fun and challenging track. The course is in great condition and holds up well with daily use. The par 3s - especially the signature #8 hole - are easily reachable but that doesn't mean birdies are automatic. The par 5s are reasonable with varying degrees of difficulty. There are hidden ponds patches of rough which will surprise you unless you pick up a course book ar the start of the round. The course lacks a driving range which is the only negative. There is a substantial practice putting green which will offer lengthy practice putts as well as side hill putts. HINT: practice the side hill putts because on the course you will be facing a lot of breaking putts. This course rewards solid short game play and there is a practice chipping, pitching and sand trap green to get ready for the course. The course meanders through "environmentally protected" areas so a ball going into such area is gone forever.
The course has a bar and some video gaming if that is your sort of thing. The bar doesn't offer a variety of food - but it does offer the basics. Just don't ask for the free pretzels with the intent of sitting on the patio. The server only provides pretzels to patrons sitting at the bar!
This course is definitely worth playing multiple times.
Slow Sunday
The course was in good shape except for the bunkers. The bunkers needed raking after the nights rain. The fairways and greens were well maintained. Pace of play was very slow, even for a Sunday.
Above par
CArt paths will beat you up but a minor issue. Big issue is that speed of pr
actice green NEVER ma tch the greens on the course. The practice green is like Augusta National and on the course much, much slower.
interesting , hilly course--great value
great staff-very friendly
our group typically plays our various private golf courses but when we want to play something different at a good price, PI is our choice
very fair yet challenging.
good staff
drains well
Better be a straight hitter
The course is very pretty, a lot of rolling hills, trees and and water, which all come into play if you aren't a straight hitter. Greens immaculate condition. My only complaint is that there are nearly enough yardage markers on the course, so if you're unfamiliar with the layout it can be a little bit challenging in club selection.
Enjoyable Experience
Nice course and great value for the price.
Staff was very accomodating and friendly..
Course was in very good shape from the tees to the greens.
If anything could have been better it would have been the pace of play on the back nine.
Overall a very enjoyable experience and will definitely play here again.
