Nice Understated Course
Decent length, simple flat layout, relatively tight fairways, large greens. Very healthy thick well groomed rough.
Greens were sadly beat up from losers that don't repair their ball marks.
Hole #5 was really confusing from tee and could stand for a better layout description.
All I all, a nice track! Well kept.
First time playing this course. I was wide enough to use your driver but punished you if you missed. The rough was long thus could not use my woods punch. Had to think your way around this course and hit your spots with your irons to score. Love this course.
Great layout
We played late morning on a Friday. Since the weather was perfect, 80s and sunny, we expected to wait on every hole. We were completely wrong, they did not overbook the course and the pace of play was excellent. We finished in less than 4 hours. The rough was higher than I have every seen it. It was very fair and forced you to play from the fairways. The greens were in very good shape.
Great Track!
Course is in great shape! Very tight golf course and you got to hit the ball in the fairway. The rough can be challenging and thick in some areas, but that's how it should be if you hit it off the fairway. The proshop attendants are always professional and knowledgeable. Played here a couple times before and looks like the course is really focusing on pace of play this year which is great! Lastly, the bar and grill area is a great place to finish the day and way more organized this year than previous years!
NOT TRUTHFULL UP FRONT
Once I booked, paid and arrived at the place, I was advised that I could play only holes 5 through 13 twice because of maintenance, etc. Well that sucked.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS GOAT FARM
Only reason I comment here is because I hope the staff does something about their course. The one and only thing good about Water's Edge is the layout. A combination of horrid conditions, I mean horrid, super slow play and overpriced green fees keep me and my friends away. I feel this course is compared to Ruffled Feathers. RF is amazing course that they let go each year. So upsetting because these tracks can really be ranked high. Make the course in amazing shape and charge really high greens fees. The high greens fees will keep the riffraff out and keep the conditions much much better. I will not be back for years until they improve this course a ton.
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback, we do read all of our comments and do our best to improve based on that feedback. We are working to enact a better system for pace of play in addition to improving course conditions. We hope you and your friends will give us another chance this summer when the course is not as wet from recent rains.
Fun Course for Twilight Money
The course is a great course to play when you are paying twilight prices. During other times of the day the price to too high for the way the course is kept. Greens are bumping in most areas, golfers don't repair their pitch marks, greens are inconsistent with their speed and there are many dead tree limbs hanging from the trees (I'm sure this will be taken care of for the safety of the players). The rough appears to not be maintained and the pin placements are some of the hardest in the area. It makes for a challenging round but most golfers are weekend warriors and the pace of play really slows down during the summer. Be prepared for a 5 or 6 hour round. If you tee off late you may not finish at all.
Great layout, but in fair to poor shape
Park District course - love the layout, but greens in poor shape. Nobody fixes ball markers. Good variety and fair holes. However, good "bang for the buck" early in the season to tune up your swing !
Fun course but difficult with wind
Have been playing course for some time now. Usually in fairly good condition compared to other courses around area but as some have mentioned there are a lot of divots in the fairways. I tried to fill a couple with the sand mix that was supposed to be on the cart but the bottle was empty. One suggestion is to keep the bottles filled so that consiencious golfers can fill in their divots plus ones left by other golfers.
Not sure if it is just me but I seem to lose distance off the tees here. Other courses I typically drive 250 to 260 with a 230 to 245 yard carry. For some reason at this course my drives seem to just drop way short (except for a couple of holes). Not sure if there is a wind issue or what but it baffles me. Irons seem to be pretty close to my average. Par 4 5th has always been my nemesis.
Perfect weather for February!
Having played it during season I can't be critical of conditions in the middle of a wet winter. Tees were forward and we complied, so the softness was fine. Play bogged down for a while, but a ranger actually asked a group ahead of us to skip a hole. Then we played quickly. No halfway house, but a beverage cart was going around! Great to get out.
I've played this course a lot and always loved it. This past day I played was an exception because it was very windy and cold. I only got through 6 holes :)
Have snacks
The course is spread out, so make sure your bag or cart have plenty of snacks and drinks to consume. Pace of play is it or miss
Quality Track in the South Burbs
This course stays open year round when possible, so i found myself here on a 68 degree February day in Chicago. Course itself was in okay conditions considering the time of year. I've played this course multiple times and to their credit, they keep the course in good condition year round.
The first 2 holes might be the toughest on the course. Especially no2 plays long with water all the way down the right EDGE! Good mix of long and short part 4s. Fairways are tree lined. The longest par 3 on the card is 180.
I know it's February
The course was in horrible shape. I've never seen a course with so many divot holes in the fairway that were not replaced and greens that had ball marks everywhere. Listen I understand it's February but if that's left over from the previous season it's a shame. Golfers should know to do those things on a course. And if not then the groundskeeper needs to take care of it. It's turning into your everyday park district course that costs 55 bucks to play. Not playing there anymore.
Playing course today and expect divets and ball marks everywhere. I've played 3 different courses Jan and Feb all are tore up. Superintendents cannot keep up with the non responsible golfers. These guys could care less how their play is affecting the playability and integrity of the course.
The too much cost to have a crew fixing ball marks and divets every day. Course would have to be closed all winter. At least you have a place to play to keep your game in tune.
Hello, we appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear your round was not up to par. We are working with our staff to ensure we have more proactive communication about course maintenance.
