River Run Golf Course
About
River Run Golf Club in Ocean City is just minutes away from the beach. The golf course has different front and back nines that make for an interesting round. This Gary Player design starts out across a wide-open landscape before moving on to more tree-lined terrain on the backside. The tighter back nine is tougher than the first nine but overall it's an approachable golf course. The player-friendly layout is gentle enough for beginners with medium-sized greens that aren't especially difficult and generous fairways that offer plenty of room. There is modest bunkering along the greens and fairways and a few lakes and some marshland come into play as well. While River Run Golf Club may not be the most formidable test, the course provides just enough of a challenge for scratch golfers.

6th "Green" Photo submitted by DrOldSchool on 08/15/2018
The course was in bad shape. Overpaid for value. Had to play the back nine twice. Front nine being aerated. No one told us.
Bare Golf
This is a beautiful course in many ways, but the fairways were in poor condition! There are many large areas without grass - in the middle of the fairway! The course starter and clubhouse staff are exceptional!
Always loved this course, BUT
I have always loved this course. Not the most difficult, but the layout is nice and it was always groomed and kept well. It's been two years since the last time I played here and I was very disappointed with the condition. The tees were shaggy and the fairways were severely damaged - not from play, but from poor maintenance. It did look like they are working on the problems. The grass can be grown back and properly groomed, hopefully they are addressing and curing the underlying issues...
Fun fun fun
The course is well designed forcing golfers to use every shot and club in their bag. Driving areas ranged from tight to wide but always ending with a lie that challenged your shot. Even on the fairway the ball could be uphill, downhill, below or above your feet. Always hitting into a well protected green. Challenging but fair. Staff could not have been better and the free practice range is a huge plus in my opinion. Fairways were in tough conditions in many spots but we haven’t had the best weather so I’ll give some forgiveness. Must play course.
Don't Waste your Money!
First off, they do not tell you it is cart path only online. I have a severely arthritic knee and walking was very painful. Had I known about the cart path only I would have booked our foursome elsewhere. The course was in very bad condition with high grass in many places, They were aerating a few fairways, one of which had 95% sand in it. I have played golf for 30 years and have never seen such a site. The greens were ok, I would imagine in the fall and spring they would be very good. I could go on but in a nutshell this course was worth $40.00 tops!
Fairways burned out ON Aug.5, 2019
This is a very nice Gary Player designed course, relatively short yardage. which IV played. Played numerous times. My last round was on Aug.4, 2019. The greens and tees were in excellent shape. However, when showing up at pro shop we were told the fairways were burned up - either by the hot conditions and/or some other cause. Thus, we were told that play was cart path only. Pace was 5hrs. Our issue was: that the course website did not indicate that it was cart path only, and there were no discounts or perks offered. Just full price. Otherwise, we’d have booked another nearby course, just as good. My suggestion: call ahead and ask about course conditions b4 booking and showing up at the course. BTW One guy in our course knocked down a hole-in-one (from the blues) on Hole #16.
PS On previous years I’d rate this course
4 or 4+ stars.
Good Round
First time playing, and the course was in decent shape. The course has taken a beating from all of the rain. The fairways were patchy with a lot of mud and the greens rolled pretty slow. I think a lot of that was caused by the rain but it was hard to tell. I would like to play again and hopefully it will be in better shape!
Nice Course/Over Priced
Course was in fair shape. Drainage issue in some areas. I felt I have played much better courses for less. Does not deserve to get private green fees and cart price.
Excellent Condition
The course was in excellent condition and the pace of play was very good - a nice course to play
Bad attitude
Had a tee time for 5:54 and walked in and the gentleman said no you don’t. Is there something wrong with being a single and wanting to go out and play as many holes as possible? Team me up with others, don’t just send me away and when even take my reservation. Will not play here again
very enjoyable
last time I played this course was 3 years ago was happy to be back it was in great shape excellent greens not too fast or slow perfect speed and consistent, tee boxes & fairways in excellent shape very friendly staff accommodating teed off at 11.45am and finished at 3.00pm great pace we were a 3 some, overall great course will definitely will be back well worth the money. ps: i did not have time for off course amenities so could not rate them.
Fair and challenging, The back 9 is the most tranquil 4 or 5 holes you will ever find.
I’ve never played a Gary Player course before and this one is a gem. There is a stretch on the back nine where you forget your on a golf course. Great job Gary!
Better than expected
I hadn't played the course in several years because it was always a 5 hour round.
This time was a pleasant surprise.
I plsyed in about 4 hours, the pace of play was good and the course was in very good shape.
Based on this experience I will return.
