River Run Golf Course
About
River Run Golf Club in Ocean City is just minutes away from the beach. The golf course has different front and back nines that make for an interesting round. This Gary Player design starts out across a wide-open landscape before moving on to more tree-lined terrain on the backside. The tighter back nine is tougher than the first nine but overall it's an approachable golf course. The player-friendly layout is gentle enough for beginners with medium-sized greens that aren't especially difficult and generous fairways that offer plenty of room. There is modest bunkering along the greens and fairways and a few lakes and some marshland come into play as well. While River Run Golf Club may not be the most formidable test, the course provides just enough of a challenge for scratch golfers.

6th "Green" Photo submitted by DrOldSchool on 08/15/2018
A shadow of its former self
This was one of the first courses I played 12 years ago in the Ocean City area. Back then it was in good shape and a difficult test from the blue tees. This trme I just wanted to see how it aged and decided to play the yellow tees that were listed at ~6100 yds.
This was a mistakebecause like mnay courses in resort areas, they moved the tees up and only 3 of 18 holes were they at the published length. At one hole (#3 ) a 500 yd par 5 they were up so far the hole measured <400yds!.
The greens were is poor shape even after the reseeding earlier in the year from damage (fungus?). None were adequately cut. Equally bad were the fairways with many wet areas that appeared to be from leaky sprinklers.
A disappointment to a see a Gary Player course this bad.
Awesome day of golf!!
First and foremost, the staff at River Run from the cashier to the starter made you feel like you were the most important group of the day! The course provides an exceptional variety of scenery and challenging golf and uses the natural landscape to it's advantage. Be mindful to try to stay in the fairway on many of the holes on the back as the grass can be quite thick and ruin your chances of reaching in regulation. The course was manicured almost to perfection. Some of the greens have experienced some dead spots but you can tell they are aggressively trying to fix those. The front nine is pretty wide open and the back more tree lined. Also, some of the holes have incorrect yardage marking on the scorecard but there are placards on each tee box with the correct distance. Overall a great course with great staff! Even the snack wagon made an appearance about every 4-5 holes. Get a good deal and go play River Run!!
Great course, greens need immediate attention.
The front 9 is a little more open than the back 9, with the back 9 presenting a few more challenges. The teeboxes were in okay shape while the greens required immediate resurrection. The course was beautiful and the fairways/bunkers were well maintained. For the price I paid it was a steal and I finished in under 3.5 hours (held up on the back 9 by a group) and probably could have played it around 3 hours.
Great value at the beach
The course is always in great shape and is very challenging.
Just had greens aerated on 8/20/13
Greens are in poor shape after several of them were eaten by some kind of weevil. They were coming back around nicely but now they just aerated them and it's like plinko-putting. But, after a week, they are already rolling much better. It has been a challenging year for River Run but they definitely had a horrible hand dealt to them with the weevil destruction to a few greens. The food at the restaurant is EXCELLENT and a hidden secret if you ask me. Buy one entrée at regular price, get the second one 1/2 price PLUS a free round of golf (or two on the weekdays; at least that was the standing deal they were offering previously). I would call just to be sure. Definitely would not pay more than $50 to play here ever; not even in pristine condition, which I have only seen it in that condition a few times. Typically the front is in great shape and the back can get a little "buggy" with some soggy fairways that like to eat club-heads for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Definitely bring some "Off" for the back nine. Overall, it is a fun course to play and the woods in the back allow you to sort of hide from the sun and not get baked. I rate it a 6.5 out of 10 currently.
Great value with the Hot Deals price
The course was in good condition. Very challenging with narrow fairways and bunker protected greens. Overall good fun.
River run
Nice design...greens need a lot of improvement back tees are best
Fun course to play!
My brother-in-law played this course on Tuesday, August 13 while on vacation. I told the attendent at the front desk this was our first time so he gave us a quick run down of what we needed to know before playing. The tee boxes and fairways were in great shape; however, a few of the greens were in very bad shape with one makeshift green around hole 13. With no maps to show the course layout, we sometimes were guessing how to play the hole. For $19, this was a very fun course to play with a few challenging holes with water.
Overall, I would play this course again and would recommend it to others.
Greens were in poor condition
Enjoyed the layout of the course and found it to be challenging. All the greens were in need of attention. Staff were very friendly and accommodating and the price was great!
Nice course took to long to play
Very nice course. Still working on repairing their greens which isn't a problem. Took way to long to play. Prepare for a long day!! Would play again as long as the Marshall's move the play along!!
OK course, slow play on a Sunday afternoon.
OK layout, some spotty greens and fringe. Crowded Sunday afternoon led to slow play, not really the course's fault. Snarky kid at the bag drop made me want to think twice before returning.
Good layout but was very disappointed in the overall condition. Greens were poor and they had a temp.
Played in the past and liked it. They told us when we signed up that they had a problem with the greens and gave us a certificate for a free round without carts for the rest of the year but we were leaving to go back home after being in OC for the week. It would have been better if they had given us a break on the fee instead of paying $70 for a poorly conditioned course.
Great layout - currently not in good shape
I have played this course before and it was in good shape. However, this past time the greens had died in certain areas. Apparently some sort of bug is attacking the greens and fringe. When the course comes back though, I recommend.
River Run
This course needs serious work done to its greens. Some of the putting surfaces were completely sand with minimal grass, making it extremely tough to putt. In addition, the pace of play at this course was very poor.
I would be hesitant to come back to this course unless they were willing to offer me a free round to come back.
Bad course conditions
We found a good rate on Golf Now that made it comparable to the majority of courses at home in the central Pa area. Unfortunately it was still a disappointment. The greens were nothing short of terrible, and some of the water hazards looked like they contained industrial waste. The rest of the course could use some attention as well.
The staff at the bag drop and pro shop were cordial but the starter was in a hurry to go home, so he called us off the practice range to start nearly a half hour early.
Overall, it was not a great experience and I will play somewhere else when in OC area from now on.
the up keep of this once wonderful golf course leaves much to be desired.
Golf courses should be eco friendly. Indiscriminant spraying for vegetation control vs. trimming is ugly. Other courses in the area have not lost their greens like this course . Poor course management. Traveled 3 hours to play and at least 6 greens poor condition at best. very, little grass to no grass in some areas. Golf Now should warn the consumer of this condition!!! Disappointing and a waste of time and money. Course should be closed and greens redone. Maybe they could trim up some of the rough looking areas around traps and greens also!
layout was awesome, greens were destroyed
very challenging course. made you play every iron in your bag with not alot of driver shots which really threw me off cause you'd go 3 or 4 holes sometimes without having to use it. fairways were in great condition along with the rough but the greens were horrible. almost every hole was irrigated around the entire green making some chips shots harder cause you were unable to use the edges of the green to let your ball run. overall i still think the course was an okay play just not for the 70 bucks.
Great layout but needs a top notch maintenance staff.
Staff blamed poor green and tee box conditions on weather, but I don't buy it as other courses in the area don't seem affected. I believe money isn't finding its way back into the course. For example steps, benches, and walkways are in need of repair. This to me demonstrates a lack of pride by course management. High spots on greens as well as all the collars were dead. Sad but this place could be one of the best courses in the area with just a year or two of overhaul. But if you get a good rate on golfnow it is definitely worth a play.
Heat and rain have created poor conditions
Was shocked at the conditions of this course. Played course after a week of temperatures in the 90s. Several greens were simply unplayable and should have been closed. Other greens had damage from mowers. Even a 2 foot putt was an adventure. Too be fair, my playing partner said the course was in excellent condition in early July. The par 3s over water were great. Wouldn't play this course for any price unless you are out for a practice round improving your iron play.
Decently maintained.
Greens were a bit slow. Many parts if the course were burnt. Number 11 green was completely lost. The majority of the holes were nice. The staff was very nice. I would have upset if I had paid full price.
