SLOW, SLOW
Super cheap deal on Golf Now, but it wasn't worth it. Could have done the poor conditions (unmowed for over a week, can't tell the rough from the fairway) OR the extremely slow play, but can't do both. This course is too easy and short to take 4 1/2 hours to play.
You get what you pay for...
The weather was simply beautiful but, the course was not. The tee boxes were nearly barren of grass and even the crabgrass was sparse in places. The fairways were your typical bargain rate fairways as was the greens. After all the rain we had, it would seem the greens would be a little softer but, these greens were not soft at all. So, not to run this course down, if you are looking for a cheap-bargain golf course than this is it......But, remember, you get what you paid for.
Slow and crowded
It's an overall good course just overbooked so the pace was very slow
Very enjoyable
The courts was fantastic. Clearly marked and well maintained I would recommend to friends and will return
No Fairways
Let me begin by saying the greens were in terrific shape, as were the tee boxes. With that being said, there was only one differentiated fairway on the entire course (on the par 4 second hole that could be seen as you were driving in). Every other par 4 or par 5 hole simply had rough, or what would be rough at any other course I have ever played. Multiple times today I hit a good drive straight down the middle only to have the ball bury in the grass and become extremely difficult to find. Heaven forbid you or another in your party hit a shot somewhere where you could not see precisely where the ball landed. In turn, this looking for balls that were sitting in the middle of the "fairway" made the pace of play quite slow, and was extremely frustrating. I do not, in any scenario, see myself returning to Southwind golf course.
Great course for the money
Course was in excellent condition, pace of play was great!
Very nice!!
Very fun course to play.. Tee box may be a little hairy. Greens were immaculate. The ball rolled so well. Definitely coming back.
A course for the fun of the game!
This is my favorite course to play when i'm trying to work something out in my game. Very wide fairways with good looking approach shots from each direction. Great staff. Nice restaurant. The kind of course you play when your just wanting to have fun playing golf.
This course was fun.
A great golf course. There were a few tee boxes that needed some work. I liked the long fairways and elevated tees.
Southwind 8-15
Course was in good shape, greens were awesome and as always had a great time here
Southwinf
This is one of Kentucky'hiddem values and a true jewel for golfers. These were the best greens I have played in all of 2014 so far. My entire experience was just awesome!!!
The course was fair.
Good course for practice, very hilly. a good course for the money.
Rude and overbooked
Make sure you take a printed out receipt of your scheduled tee time if you are using this app. They tried to deny us our tee time because we didn't have the printed receipt. (First course in about 15 courses I've played throughout Kentucky through the app that has done this.) They said it was, "because we have a 70 year old who runs the shop in the evenings that can't read very well." (can't read emails on cellphones) After the gentleman working in the pro shop finally accepted our GolfNow tee time he made us tee off 30 minutes prior to our scheduled time. It wasn't a problem with us, just though it wasn't very proper. He blamed the app for "overbooking" the course and talked about how it ruined his book. We averaged a 15 minute wait on each hole. No one could play through because there wasn't anywhere to go. There were at least 2 groups on each hole at any given time, usually 3 or 4. I wouldn't recommend anyone to play that course just for the fact that apparently when it gets busy, no one knows what to do. The course is average in quality and easy to score. Great restaurant. Rude staff. Waiting times were unbelievable and completely ruined the experience. I don't see a scenario where I return or recommend Southwind to anyone.
Great Course!
Being from Winchester I have played Southwind a 100 times. I have played golf all over the country and there isn't a better value than Southwind. It plays wide open with undulated greens on almost every hole. If you keep the ball in the fairway you can score well. If you're off the fairway be ready for a lot of blind shots because of the hills. Overall, it's a course that always in good shape and will not break the bank.
Enjoyable Sunday of November Golf
My wife and I have started playing courses outside of Lexington because Lexington's are comparatively more expensive.
Our initial venture into the Southwind pro shop assured us of a delightful experience as the older gentleman behind the counter greeted us warmly. He asked if we'd ever played there before, and when we said no he proceeded to spell out the various nuances of the course. I wish I had taken notes because they were quite extensive, and welcomed. The course was in great shape, considering the time of year. The greens were even and fair.
We look forward to coming back many times in the future.
Awesome layout
~every hole has elevation changes in one way or another
~Fast greens with a lot of break
~If your playing well, this course is easy to score on
Every hole has some type of elevation change or slope, very unique. Play from the blues.
Great layout, very hilly, only a few blind shots, fast greens
Rough conditions late in the year
Best value around, always a tee time available
Difficult test for 1st or 2nd time through, otherwise not a bad course to score on
Great value but you get what you pay fo
Price through Golf Now unbelievable. Course very dry. Can sprain your wrist putting tee in ground. Greens good. Some tee boxes go very close to other greens or fairways almost dangerous. One temporary tee on slanted ground.
good layout good greens and tee boxes
I have played this course a lot and enjoy it ,well worth the money, the course is always well maintained, with friendly staff to serve your needs.
