Stonehedge South Course at Gull Lake View Golf Club and Resort

About
Gull Lake View Golf Club & Resort is the oldest and largest golf resort in southwest Michigan. It offers five championship courses that draw visitors from throughout the Midwest, Great Lakes, and Canada. Located in Michigan's scenic lake region, all of the courses have a beautiful landscape with scenic views. The Stonehedge South Course is the third out of the five golf courses. Charles Scott, a well known name in the area, designed the course in 1988. The layout plays through rolling, wooded countryside that offers interesting elevation changes throughout. The golf course has a classic layout that calls for a variety of different shots. The greens are quick and gently sloped. Pinpointing a single signature hole is difficult since each one has a unique character and offers a different challenge.

Excellent Course
First time playing nice course, somewhat narrow fairway that makes the course a challenge. I will play this course again.
Gull Lake's best course.
If you like tree lined scenic courses that are challenging and fun, then this is one of Michigans best. Played it during fall color change, so beautiful. And course was in great shape.
Pace of play Ridiculous
I have played this course many times over the last 15 years. I will never play on a weekend again. I was waiting 8-10 minutes per shot. It drained all the rhythm and pleasure out of the round. I stopped after 9 because despite an extreme level of patience I couldn’t take it any more. So I went inside to get a hotdog after discontinuing play and the one food worker had a line of 10 people in front of me so I gave upon this and left. This represents incredibly bad management of the course. Course conditions were great for this time of year.
Great features
I played this course with an afternoon tee time, and had a great time. We played 5 of the 6 courses at Gull Lake, and this had the most character. There is no water on this course, but you have to keep the ball in the fairway. Great combination of par 3s, 4s, and 5s. A neat feature that this course has is that it is framed around all these rock walls, which gives it the name. I will definitely return to Gull Lake and hope to play the new course that just opened.
Unheralded gem
Seems like this course hasn't received the recognition it deserves. With the trees and the rolling topography, it is beautiful from start to finish. Challenging, but fair -- if you hit the ball in the trees, you are most likely going to be penalized, but at least most of the time you can find your ball. A bad shot isn't necessarily a lost ball. No water hazards, but plenty of sand. Just a very enjoyable course to play. Only drawback was, on the day we were there, pace of play was horrendous and many groups were loud to the point of being obnoxious. Don't know if that's the norm or not.
Played Stonehenge South @ 11 24 on a Saturday morning. We had a foursome and it took us 5 hours 40 minutes to play 18. Numerous times there were 3 groups on a Par 4-utterly ridiculous. They need to marshal the course-many groups around us play music which is fine but should have courtesy for others. It is a great course but I think management should reconsider what is happening during the round with the golfers (heavy drinking-people going shirtless etc)
Norther Michigan Golf for a third of the Price
Stonehedge South is one of the most beautiful courses in Michigan. It compares very favorably with many of the highly rated courses in Northern Michigan. An excellent designed course that is exceptionally well maintained. A fantastic value. Maybe the best quality to value courses in Michigan
Nice course very tight and challenging plenty of elevation changes will definitely go back
Nice course
Course in great shape. Staff friendly and helpful
EXCELLENT COURSE!!
Played this course on a sunday afternoon with a good HOT DEAL on Golfnow. We were in the area (kalamazoo,Mi) for a 3 day golf vacation with another couple. Have stayed and played the other gull lake courses (at other times) and was always impressed with the overall course conditions of their other courses. This time was no different...perfect weather and think we played it in a little more than 4 hours..not bad for a weekend in afternoon in the middle of the day. This course is a challenge as it is NARROW!! Greens were in good shape and cut for a moderate speed...not lighting quick...but were also not shaggy slow.... they were nice to putt on. Rough was cut a little high..not a major issue other than finding a ball at times was tough unless you were right on top of it...not a negative..just an observation.Sand traps were decent...only remember being in one all day so not so bad from that perspective. Hope to play this course again when in that area of the state...clubhouse assistants were very pleasant andmade us feel like they appreciated our choosing to play the course
Great experience (1st time).
Course was in great condition. Very friendly staff, would recommend.
Great layout great price but POOR greens
Great layout
Greet price
POOR green quality
Very well kept
This is a great course. The layout is very nice and well manicured.I would definitely recommend. Great staff and very friendly.
Great Course but SLOW play
A great older course, in great shape, challenging but still fun. But it took 2:45 for the front nine and would have been a 5 hour round except we skipped two holes to get around a slow-playing foursome who wouldn't let us play through. No rangers. Disappointing.
Great Layout
The course is in outstanding condition. The greens and fairways are nice and the layout is interesting and fun. Now for the bad. We played as a twosome following a twosome who were following a foursome. By hole 9 the twosome in front of us had fallen two full holes behind the foursome. They never acknowledged us much less offered to put us through. At the turn I complained. After looking over their tee time sheet they told us that play was on point and there was nothing they could do! They didn't care that we had actually teed off 40 mins before our scheduled time. They based pace of play on our scheduled tee time. It says right on their scorecard " Please allow faster players to play through". Simple golf etiquette! Also, The clubhouse has a very limited menu. The only hot food is hotdogs. You will be hungry after your 5.5 hour round so pack a snack:)
excellent track
I played 7/28/16 and the course only had a few other people on it. It was extremely well kept, and even saw workers diving around touching things up.
Favorite gull lake course.
Staff friendly. Great golf course. Michigan golf at its best. Would be nice if gull lake had a better food program. Would have stayed later if we could have dined at facility. I think they are missing on that opportunity.
