About
The West Course at Forest Akers is one of two 18-hole courses owned and operated by Michigan State University in East Lansing. The West is the premier tournament layout for the Spartan golf teams and also hosted the Division III Women’s National Golf Championship in 2021. The rolling and forested layout was originally designed by Bruce Matthews but was extensively renovated in the 1990s by Arthur Hills and received further updates in 2010. In the early 2000s, a new clubhouse and hotel was built on property that altered the routing of the golf course. There is also an extensive practice facility across the street at the East course and accessible to the public. The West Course is considered one of the Midwest’s finest, public-access campus courses and one of the best layouts in the Lansing area.

Normally the course is a great place to play - wind and leaves made it very tough
The West course is a very good couse to play. The mature trees and layout make it both difficult and easier to play the 18 holes. This time of year is a bit more difficult with leaves when missing a fairway. On this particular day the wind was gusting to up to 30 MPH. Great for down wind shots, but a nightmare for into the wind driving. Could be one of the final rounds for the fall.
Loved the course!
The course was in excellent condition even with all the late fall conditions. This course has always been one of my favorites.
MSU course
The east course was ok. The Forest Akers West course was awesome. From tee to green, it was on of the nicest courses we have played.
Great course!
Love playing this course since it is very well maintained and a beautiful layout. I find it challenging every time as well!
