Sugar Creek Golf Course

About
Sugar Creek Golf Course offers some of the best scenery of any course in the St. Louis area. Golfers can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside from the course's elevated tees. The course opened in 1990 with several improvements made in the following years. The layout is a manageable length at just under 6,100 yards. It is player-friendly enough for beginners to approach with confidence but there are also challenges in store for more advanced players. Water only comes into play on one hole but there are stands of trees lining the narrow fairways. The golf course will generously reward accuracy and good strategy though it is not overly punishing if you are slightly errant. In addition to the course, Sugar Creek G.C. also boasts an expansive practice range with 35 hitting stations.

Great course and staff!
I went to this course a couple of times last year after getting back into golfing and went back to it for my first round this season. I love this course. It is a great value for your money and the staff is always very friendly. The owner even talked with us while we grabbed a bite to eat between the front and back 9’s. Would recommend to everyone and will be going back many times again this season!
average
Greens and fairways not in best condition, but this time of year passable. Although a little overpriced for the shape it was in.
Great Layout, Horrible Condition
Weeds for grass on tee boxes. Greens have dead spots everywhere, fairways were like playing in the rough. Hate to see this, wish they would get it back in shape because the layout is awesome! Friendly staff, but it’s not worth what their charging..
Needs Help
Golf course needs A LOT of help. Played here on 9/6, and was throughly disappointed. Not sure how was this was named “Golf Course of the Year”.
If the course is open, the Snack bar should also be OPEN
Played early on a Friday and the snack bar wasn't open, which is NOT GOOD. If the course is open you should make the amenities available! BIG MISS
So bad…
I haven’t played here in a while, but the little bit of progress they were making with the course a couple years ago is completely gone. They do not have grass on half of the tee boxes and that continues throughout the rest of the course, including the greens. The majority of the course is dirt and weeds.
Carts and cart paths are still rough at best. This has to be one of the worst courses in the St. Louis area. It’s a shame because this course has some fun holes.
Course showing wear
I understand the course gets wear and tear during the year, but I shouldn't have to use a nail to get my tee in. The course had improved so much the last few years and now it's going back to what it was. And I don't appreciate the way one of the maintenance man talked to us about being on the fairway that no one said we couldn't be. I have come here for the last 7years but not anymore.
Overpriced
I had played this course a couple times prior to COVID. Forgot how challenging the course is with narrow fairways and elevation changes.
The fairways were rough in parts and the greens were beat up, fixing a ball mark is an afterthought. Many greens had dead spots on the green or places where it was just mud. The course is not worth $57-65 that they charge, it is worth around $35-40 that it was prior to COVID.
The staff and maintenance crew were friendly and helpful, but the course needs work.
Course is tough AND rough
Course was probably in the worst shape of any I've played this year. I hadn't played here in a couple of years so I thought I'd give it another try. I now remember why I stayed away. Almost all the tee boxes were bare and hard as a rock. Bring a hammer to pound your tee in. Most of the fairways are pretty narrow with crappy grass, but the worst part is pretty much all of them are OB on either side, so you are screwed if you leave the fairway. Many of the fairways have severe dropoffs on either side, so if your ball dribbles to the side, it's gone. Greens didn't roll true in my opinion. I won't be back.
Rough shape
Course needs a lot of water. Tee boxes are bare and hard as a rock. Cart paths are dangerous at best. I’ll be back, but hopefully course gets some rain.z
The price sold me!!
Fairways are little sparse, but not a bad course for the price.
Course is in rough shape and the website description is inaccurate.
If you go to Sugar Creek's website, they will tell you that they have installed new cart paths, that the tee boxes have been upgraded and that the course was rated the best in St. Louis by KMOX. I can't speak for KMOX though it would be interesting to learn which year the review took place. The course was in terrible shape. The cart paths were broken or non-existant, the tee boxes were either bare or weed infested, and the fairways lacked consistent grass to hit an iron shot. Pace of play was an issue as a number of guests are either new to golf or unskilled. Sugar Creek has a fun layout but is always in poor shape.
