Nice Course Beaten Up a Bit
I like Whispering Pines and always look forward to playing the course. I like the variety of holes and they are all fair but challenging. I really like the different length par 3s ranging from about 135 to 185. Normally the course is in really good shape. Unfortunately it was not the case July 29th. I can live with tees being kind of sparse and beaten up but for the first time the greens were not in good shape. It was like there had been a couple of large outings on the course and nothing had been done to the greens since. There were a lot of ball marks, the area around the holes was really worn and scuffed and the edges of the holed were really chewed up. That said it will not deter me from playing W.P. again and often. I fully expect the course will be back to its normally good condition the next time we play there.
Great course
Course was challenging yet fair. Some short holes where you must play to a certain yardage on tee shots. Greens and fairways were in excellent condition.
Over 50 rate 20 bucks weekday
What a value if you’re over 50 this course is only $20 with a cart for 18 holes
Great pace of play
We played a three some great pace of play They had morning league but afternoon empty
Not easy course to play
Course is not fun to play. Layups require on drives. Difficult to keep ball in play. Not in best condition
Not the worst, Not the best
Driving up to the clubhouse visually speaking, I’m thinking I’m playing at a choice course here. As we got into our round we notice that the Tbox and fairways weren’t maintained as well as the greens, little disappointed with that. Before we started our round I purchased two dozen golf balls at the clubhouse and at the turn I decided I didn’t need them, the staff was very accommodating and refunded my money without any hesitation. The food could have been much better, hotdogs tasted like they were leftovers from last season. Overall I’d rate this course 3 stars out of 5 but the service was nothing but exceptional.
Great early golf conditions!
Course lloks good. Clean and welcoming clubhouse. General manager friendly and helpful.
nice course
Great greens, fast and tricky, fairways are nice, tees are in good shape. Tough course, very hilly with some tough lies, some blind shots.
Always Good
Always like playing Whispering Pines. Enjoy the variety of holes. Course is always in good condition. 9th hole is tough uphill par 3. Definitely add 1 and maybe 2 clubs. 12th hole has water completely across fairway about 110 yards from green. 16th hole tee shot is blind over hill. Stay a little right.
Bad day on a good course
As usual, the course was in great shape and the staff was friendly. Unfortunately, there was an outing ahead of us. The round took 5 3/4 hours. If that wasn't bad enough, the group in front of us had loud music playing in their cart. They had no consideration for those around them even when their carts were parked near our green. They knew we were putting but didn't care. Would have been nice if they had an assistant driving around the course to monitor things. Nice course but the day was spoiled by some inconsiderate golfers and a lack of management by Whispering Pines.
Great Value
Almost hate to write a review because more people might come out and play. The course was in great shape with an "up north " feel. Fairways and greens were well manicured and the overall property is a beauty. There are 4 sets of tees and two of us played from the tips which can be challenging. The red tees chop off much of the trouble but still a nice test. There are some tricky holes and blind approaches so take the cart and look ahead if you're out for the first time. It will definitely save some strokes. Also , stay on the fairway - not much forgiveness. Highly recommended for a fun round.
Another Great Michigan Golf Course
Played 9 holes with my daughter, very scenic course. Did not see any drinking water on course and no beverage service was offered on course.
Don't get fooled by the name.
Ahh Whispering Pines, sounds like a nice, rolling hills layout through woods and a fun day on the course, a stroll through the park, not! This is a very challenging course, the yardage doesn't seem like it's 6500 yards from the back but it is a long 6500 yards and the white tees are the same way. It is a great lay out and the greens and fairways were excellent, the tee boxes were raggedy in spots but most were nice. Just be prepared to play undulating fairways with tough lies and hitting up to landing areas. Side hill lies and tricky greens. Will play again and be better prepared. I recommend this course.
Course was in great shape, but 5.5 hours and didn't finish
The course itself was in great shape, the tee boxes, fairways, and greens were all looking good. My poor rating though comes from the fact that this course was way overbooked, there was a 6 cart wait on the first tee, which then continued for each hole on the front nine. The back was somewhat better as we were able to skip a few of the groups in front of us who went in the clubhouse at the turn, however we still had long waits as the back nine was playing slow as well. The icing on the cake (and what caused us to just quit) was the 8 cart wait on the 18th hole, and the reason for the wait was there was a wedding going on on the 1st tee box and they wouldn't let anyone play the 18th! I have never in my 20 years of golf experienced something like that, and for them to not even tell anyone that this would be going on when we checked in is utterly unacceptable. Both my playing partner and I vowed it will be a very long time, if at all, before we play at Whispering Pines again.
Sunny Day
I thought the course was in great shape. Greens where not too fast, the rough was fair. Pace of play was great until 16th hole. One employee cutting tee boxes was under the impression that we should wait for him to do his job for 6 holes. Friendly patrons. All around good experience.
