Greens not in mid-season form.
Challenging layout but greens were on the slow and bumpy side.
Needs work, early in season, hope it improves
Course needs work. Too many tight lies and bad spots on fairways and greens. I'm going to say it is because it is early in the season and hope they can work on improving the course when the weather warms. Also, why were there so many uneven lies on the tee boxes? Teeing areas should be flat, it's hard enough to hit off a side hill lie but from the teebox, really?
Course Has Improved!
I last played Whispering Pines near the end of the 2020 season and came away hoping someone would put some TLC into it. This time our group noticed the improved course condition and all thought it was a great value.
Whispering Pines
Nice layout for the average golfer. Staff was great.
Only issue is course maintenance. Looks like there has been a little neglect to course maintenance over the past few years.
That said there is no reason why I would not play again.
NOT READY FOR PLAY
YES IT WAS MARVH IN MICHIGAN. BUT IT SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN OPEN. THE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD BEEN OPEN FOR 13 DAYS. THE GREENS, FAIRWAYS, TEES, OH EVERYTHING WAS COVERED WITH DEBRIS.
NOR ONLY THAT, BUT THE CART PATHS ARE COMPLETELY TRASHED. NOTHING BUT BUMPS AND HOLES.
I USUALLY PLAY A FEW ROUNDS A YEAR THERE. DON'T THINK ILL BE BACK
What constitutes a "featured course"?
Seriously, when I saw "featured course" on Golf Now, I had expectations. Not high, but certainly above average. Everything about this course was disappointing. The tees were awful. Full of weeds and clover. The fairways weren't much different... except for the large brown patches everywhere. The greens were slow even after they were mowed.... and they were, as we followed the greens mower around much of the course and he never let us play past him. It's been a long time since I've played a course with such deplorable conditions. If you hit it in the fairway and miss a brown patch, clover cluster, and unfilled divot, then the ball is above or below your feet a good eight inches most of the time. I honestly got better, more even lies in the rough on four holes. I should have started aiming there. I'm having a difficult time trying to find a positive. Feel bad for the residents that live on it.
Not open today
I had a reservation for play today, but not opened, nobody can I contact.
I believe it is due t system issue, not no support to me.
Straight ball course
The course was rough back in the spring, sprinkler system went down for weeks but the superintendent got it up and running and busted his rear end to bring it back, looks great out there. Trees coming down over the winter to make it more friendly, highly recommend this course
TLC Needed
I usually play this course once a year, but this year it's not in the best shape.
Be aware there is no driving range, but there is a practice putting green. Once you pay for your round, you have to walk back up the hill to grab a cart which needs to be replaced. The scorecard shows four tee boxes, but there are only two different tee markers available on the course (white and red). The tee boxes are beat up and on some it's hard to find a flat spot. The fairway and rough on most holes are in decent condition. Several holes have the feel of courses in Northern Michigan especially with the leaves changing colors.
The greens need work. There are several with large patches missing that are filled with sand and the grass is long. The back nine needs to have signs showing how to get to the holes. There are a few holes that you don't know which path to take. I think the most disturbing part of the day was that golf carts are not being sanitized after use. The cart person took our cart from the parking lot and put it back in line for the next person to use.
Condition- not THAT bad.
Though the condition of the course was not at its best, it wasn't as bad I thought it would be after reading some of the reviews. I hadn't played it for about 5-6 years when it was in super shape. It was nice to play it again but being over an hour away from home I'm not likely to play it again any time soon.
I play here once a year.
I read some older reviews and what they pointed out hasn't been fixed. The greens need some TLC. There are large bald spots filled with sand on some of the greens. Another really irritating issue are the signs directing you from 1 green to the next teeing area. If you haven't played the course before going from 13 to 14 can be tricky. The greens can't be fixed quickly but the signs could be. And empty the garbage cans on each tee box. What I can say is the value was good and the course isn't boring due to the hills.
