Quail Brook Golf Course
About
Quail Brook Golf Course in Somerset is one of central New Jersey's top public courses. The challenging design is a favorite amongst local golfers. The layout has a diverse mix of holes, some of which are spacious and wide-open and others that are rolling and tight. Although the golf course may seem short at 6,630 yards from the back tees, don't be fooled by the yardage. The course can feel much longer thanks to the hilly terrain. The front nine has subtler undulations while the back nine is dramatically hilly, which makes it a tough course to walk. Quail Brook Golf Course's undulating fairways lead to challenging sloped greens that are framed with strategically placed bunkers. There aren't too many opportunities for driving, but your short game will definitely get a workout.

Great track, Inconsiderate golfers
This was my 2nd time playing this course ever. The course was in great form for this time of the year. And despite permitting walk ons the pace of play wasn’t too bad! We finished in 4 hours and 23 minutes which is great, anything longer than 5 hours is a red flag for me if marshals aren’t on top of it and despite the parking lot being full of cars the pace was great.
The driving range was a welcome sight since many munis don’t normally have them. However, they should really look at replacing their mats, they’re worn out and overdue to be replaced completely. Not flipped, replaced completely. Better mats would make this place a great course to hone in all aspects of your game especially since the range even has a practice bunker!
Now my only issue was the greens. They should hire someone that follows the last group of the day to repair all the pitch marks people don’t fix. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people don’t fix their pitch marks and boy do they suffer. The front 9 greens weren’t too rampant with unrepaired pitch marks but the back 9, I had fixed 6 pitch marks on 2 greens alone and there were more that needed to be fixed. Other than that, the greens were lightening fast. I tapped a few putts and they would still roll out 3+ feet past the pin. I lost 6.1 strokes alone to the greens in relation to scratch just because of the speed of the greens being not only too fast but also inconsistent.
My hope is as the weather gets warmer the consistency and condition of the greens will improve cause this place is a great track!
Also, I would put up a fence along hole one and hole 9 so it limits the possibility of being hit by a range ball or at least push the OB line farther away from the range.
Great Track
I was playing well despite the rock hard greens due to the cold. Approach shots were similar to hitting a cart path instead of a a green. That’s what you get when you play on January 15, it’s not a complaint just a fact. I love this course and it’s the second time playing Quail. I doubled the last 3 holes to drag my score to 91 and played with the same ball the entire round.
I recommend this course and will look forward to playing it again in milder conditions.
This course is in amazing shape for late November. Tee boxes where good. Fairways in excellent condition. And greens wow they rolled perfect. I would recommend playing here. The value was good. If you are a walker a lot of distance between some holes. If I changed anything I would have taken a cart
Nice surprise
First time on this course. Certainly one of the nicer Somerset County courses. Good layout with challenges on many holes. Variety of Par 4"s. Greens were immaculate and quick. Will be back!
Good shape for the fall
I always enjoy playing here. Greens were in good shape for it being mid November
